Broken Silence: A Parent-Child Story
Characters:
1. Lily: 16-year-old high school student, stressed about exams, feels misunderstood by parents
2. Mrs. Smith: Lily’s mother, works full-time, cares about Lily but always expresses in a strict way
3. Mr. Smith: Lily’s father, calm and rational, acts as a mediator between mother and daughter
Setting:
Living room of the Smith’s house, evening. Lily is sitting on the sofa, staring at her phone. Mrs. Smith walks in with a plate of fruit, looking a little anxious.
Scene 1: The Conflict
(Mrs. Smith puts the fruit plate on the coffee table, glances at Lily’s phone screen)
Mrs. Smith: Lily, you’ve been staring at your phone for an hour! Have you finished your math homework? Your mid-term exam is coming in two weeks, why don’t you spend more time reviewing?
Lily: (locks the phone impatiently, leans back on the sofa) Mom, I just took a break for a while. I’ve been studying all afternoon.
Mrs. Smith: A break? All I see is you holding your phone every time I come in! When I was your age, I studied all day without complaining. You’re so easily distracted, how can you get good grades?
Lily: (raises voice) You never listen to me! You only care about my grades. You don’t ask me if I’m tired or if I’m having a hard time at school!
Mr. Smith: (walks out of the study, frowning slightly) Honey, Lily, calm down. Let’s not argue over this.
Mrs. Smith: (turns to Mr. Smith) You always protect her! If I don’t push her, she’ll never take her studies seriously!
Lily: I don’t need your push! I hate that you only judge me by my scores! (stands up and runs to her bedroom, slamming the door hard)
(Mrs. Smith sighs heavily, sits on the sofa with a worried face. Mr. Smith sits beside her and pats her shoulder.)
