B At the school writing club, Penny and I were paired up as critique (评论) partners —friends who read each other’s writing and gave helpful advice. She could write perfect sentences, while my ideas were great but my grammar was poor. Just after we handed our stories to each other, something felt strange. Then it hit me: she had copied the idea from a story I had read! I couldn’t believe it. How could she do that? My mind was racing. After a deep breath, I forced myself to tell her the truth. A long, silent moment passed before she finally spoke, “Jenny... I knew I shouldn’t have done this... but I never had a single idea for a story...” With that, she rushed off, a few tears falling down her face. Suddenly, I remembered what my job as her critique partner was to help. But how? The question stayed in my mind until I saw my mom and brother building a tall tower in the living room. Mom stacked (垒) the blocks colorfully but some fell quickly, while my brother made the base safe but not so colorful. Then they decided to work together: her eye for color and his care for strength (力量) made the tower taller, stronger, and more colorful—much better than either could do alone. Suddenly it clicked! The next morning, I found Penny and made a suggestion. I said, “What if we worked on a story together?” “Can we?” she asked with doubt mixed with hope. “I do have one new idea. Maybe we can write about two friends, ” I said, “And one has a big problem and they shared their own strengths.” “And everything ends up perfectly, ”she added. I smiled, “Just like us!” 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 26. What was the writer good at as a good critique partner? A. Ideas. B. Grammar. C. Painting. D. Drawing. 27. How did Penny feel after the writer told her the truth? A. Happy and relaxed. B. Quiet and confident. C. Sorry and nervous. D. Surprised and excited. 28. What can we learn from the mom and brother’s building a tower? A. It’s easy to build a tall tower with blocks. B. Working together can achieve better results. C. Family members should always help each other. D. A strong base is the most important for a tower. 29. What does the underlined sentence “Suddenly it clicked.” mean? A. A big sound came suddenly. B. The writer got a good idea. C. The writer finished her story. D. The problem became difficult. 30. What can we infer from the text? A. Penny will never write stories again in the future. B. The writer’s mom is good at building block towers. C. The writing club will stop pairing critique partners. D. The writer and Penny will be better writing partners. C People often call dogs “man’s best friends”. Now, a study shows why they are really our best friends. Scientists at UCLA Medical Center in California say dogs can help people feel better and stay healthy. In the study, scientists watched 76 patients with heart problems. They put the patients into three groups. One group got visits from people who brought dogs. Another group got visits from people without dogs. The last group had no visitors at all. The scientists wrote down how the patients felt before, during, and after the visits. The scientists found that patients who got visits from people with dogs felt better. They were 24 percent less nervous than before. The group that got only people’s visits felt 10 percent less nervous. The group without visitors felt the most nervous. After just 12 minutes with the dogs, the patients’ hearts worked better. The scientists showed the study to the American Heart Association and the Pet Care Trust Foundation paid for the study. The dogs used in the study were therapy (治疗) dogs. Therapy dogs were trained to be calm and kind to patients. Some of the dogs were big and some were small. Many people know that animals are helpful. Trained monkeys can carry things for disabled people. ▲ Some hospitals even bring in animals, like horses, to cheer up kids who are sick. Before the study, there wasn’t much proof (证据) that therapy animals could make people healthier. Nurse Kathie M. Cole, who worked on the study, hopes doctors will see how good animals can be for patients. “Dogs are a great comfort (安慰),” she said. “They help people feel happier and loved. That is really important when someone is nervous or not feeling well.” 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 31. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A. Dogs. B. Patients. C. Monkeys. D. Scientists. 32. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3? A. The goal of the study. B. The results of the study. C. Ways of doing the study. D. The reasons for doing the study. 33. What do we know about the study? A. Doing the study cost a lot of money. B. Patients in the study all had eye problems. C. American Heart Association did the study. D. Dogs used in the study were not common dogs. 34. Which of the following can be put back in the blank “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 5? A. Animals are people’s friends. B. Therapy animals only work in hospitals. C. Guide dogs can help blind people walk safely. D. Sometimes animals can be dangerous to people. 35. What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing the text? A. To teach people how to train their pets. B. To ask people to protect animals in danger. C. To show people some useful ways to keep healthy. D. To show how therapy animals help people feel better. D The phrase “Love you, laoji” is very popular on the Internet now. It basically (大体上) means “love yourself”. 36 This is because it sounds like talking to an old friend—warm and a little bit funny. This friendly sentence helps start real self-care. So, how can you love “laoji”? First, talk to yourself as you would talk to a best friend. Say “I tried my best, and I’ll do better next time” instead of thinking “Why am I so stupid”. 37 For example, “I finished my homework on time today—good time management.” or “I stayed calm and avoided fights—good emotional (情绪) control!” Slowly, this writing habit helps you feel loved and cared for. You can also create your own “improving list”. Enjoy some sunlight, take a warm bath, go for a walk, or listen to music. 38 Loving yourself also requires the courage to say “no”. 39 Remind (提醒) yourself, “My feelings are the most important thing. Protecting my peace is not wrong.” Finally, reflect (反思) weekly. Spend 20 minutes each week asking yourself, “Which of my needs were left out this past week? What helped my progress? How do I wish to take care of myself next?” Write down your answers. 40 “Love you, laoji” teaches us to be our own best friend. So why not start today? 根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使短文意思通顺、内容完整。 A. Even a small thing can improve yourself. B. Why do young people like the phrase so much? C. Write down some good things you do before bed. D. Say no to things that waste your energy or hold you back.
