When you take action with DoSomething, you’re committing yourself to building a safer, kinder, fairer, and greener world. Street Sweep When trash and pollutants are left on streets or in public areas, they often get washed into storm drains (下水道) during rain and are carried directly to waterways. Join us by organizing a Street Sweep event with your own sweep squad, or join a community cleanup hosted by other DoSomething members, to collectively remove trash before it enters our waterways. By participating in Street Sweep, you’ll earn 10 volunteer credit hours and become qualified for the opportunity to earn a $ 1,500 scholarship. Ripple Effect Most of the pollution impacting our waterways originates in our very own communities, due to improper trash disposal. Create a public service announcement to educate your peers about how safe and responsible trash disposal in your community can create long-lasting change in protecting our waterways. This action will make you qualified for the opportunity to earn a $ 250 scholarship. Project STEM Heroes STEM jobs are projected to grow 3 times faster than non-STEM jobs, but only 20% of high school graduates are prepared for college-level coursework in STEM. So we’re calling on you to record and share a 60-second video about why you’re passionate about, excited by, or interested in STEM to inspire a younger generation of students to explore STEM too! You’ll be eligible (有资格的) to earn a $ 1,500 scholarship! Report the Scam(诈骗) Scams may come in many forms — from emails and fake job offers to payment apps. Report the Scam is your chance to turn a scam into a teachable moment. Tell us what scams you recently spotted (screenshots welcomed!), what tipped you off, and how you handled it. We’ll use your story to help other young people avoid the same traps. 21. What can participants get through Street Sweep? A. Volunteer credit hours. B. A chance to win a $ 1,500 prize. C. B In a world where corporate (公司的) success is often viewed as the ultimate goal, engineer Mantaj Sidhu chose a completely different path. He walked away from his dream job in Dublin and returned to his roots in Punjab to pursue something far more personal, which is organic farming and food safety for families. In Dublin, Mantaj enjoyed financial comfort and professional approval. Yet the memory of impure food on his parents’ table in India troubled him constantly. That concern was not unfounded. In 2021, nearly one in five food samples in India failed to meet food safety standards, a statistic that shook him completely. What was on his plate became a question he could no longer ignore. In 2022, ignoring the advice of friends and family, he returned home and constituted a business with his cousin Baljit Singh Gill. On their farmland in Patiala, they started producing organic food. Their work offers urban families a new way to get genuinely chemical-free produce without having to farm full-time. Families pay for a six-month plan and are given small lands where up to 18 seasonal vegetables are grown organically for them. They can visit the farm, observe the process, pick their own vegetables, or have the fresh harvest delivered straight to their homes. This model brings transparency (透明性) and trust to an often unclear food system. Techniques used on the farm rely on cow waste and compost fertilizers, traditional pest controls like sour buttermilk, and sustainable practices such as mulching (用覆盖物覆盖) to improve soil health. Today, around 35 families regularly receive produce from the farm, with many more on the waiting list. Mantaj earns less than before, but the peace of mind that comes from feeding his parents safe, nutritious food has redefined success for him. 24. What made Mantaj quit his job in Dublin? A. The desire to live with his family. B. His disappointment with Irish food. C. A personal calling related to food purity. D. His failure to fit into the corporate culture. 25. What does the underlined word “constituted” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Started. B. Left. C. Found. D. Joined. 26. How does the business model build trust with customers? A. It allows them to control food variety. B. It provides free samples before payment. C. It employs famous chefs to promote quality. D. It makes them witness how food is grown. 27. What can we learn about the produce of Mantaj’s farm from the last paragraph? A. It is well received. B. It is highly profitable. C. It needs more advertisement. D. It takes ages to see its effect. C The day when Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980 is forever remembered by people around the world. A powerful flow of lava (熔岩) destroyed almost all living things within miles. After the ash and rocks cooled down, scientists suggested that gophers (囊地鼠), by digging and turning over the soil, could bring helpful bacteria and fungi (真菌) to the surface, possibly helping nature recover. Two years after the eruption, they decided to test this idea. In the experiment, scientists placed gophers on parts of the damaged mountain for just 24 hours. Allen, a professor of plant pathology, and his colleague flew by helicopter to an area where the lava had turned the ground into broken pieces of porous rock. At that time, only about a dozen plants had managed to grow there. A few seeds had been brought by birds, but the young plants struggled to survive. After scientists dropped a few local gophers onto two pieces of land for a day, the area soon became full of new life again. Six years after the experiment, 40,000 plants were growing well on the gopher-treated land. The land that had not been touched remained mostly empty. More than 40 years later, the team studied the area and found they had made a lasting difference. “Land with past gopher activity had more different types of bacteria and fungi than the surrounding old forests,” the team explained. Although the gophers played an unusual and important role, the real heroes of the recovery were the fungi. After the eruption, scientists worried that nearby pine and spruce forests would take a long time to recover, because the ash covered their needles and caused them to fall off. However, this did not happen, again, thanks to fungi. “These trees have their own fungi that took in nutrients from the fallen needles and helped them grow back quickly,” said Emma Aronson, a co-author of the study. “The trees came back almost immediately in some places. They didn’t all die as everyone had thought.” 28. Why does the author mention the eruption of Mount St. Helens? A. To explain gophers’ effect on ecosystem. B. To show the impact of volcanic eruptions. C. To highlight the power of volcanic eruptions. D. To introduce the role of gophers in recovery. 29. What result did the gopher experiment bring? A. More fungi died in the treated land. B. Birds brought fewer seeds to the area. C. More plants grew on the tested land. D. Fungi helped turn over damaged lands. 30. What can we infer from paragraph 4? A. Pine trees recovered very slowly. B. Fungi aided forests’ recovery greatly. C. Ash cut off trees’ nutrient supply. D. Scientists predicted fast tree growth. 31. Which is the best title for the text? A. Volcanic Eruption Harmed Local Wildlife. B. Fungi Are the Heroes of Forest Protection. C. Gophers Save Dying Plants in Old Forests. D. Small Helpers Speed Ecosystem Recovery Up. D Here on Earth, it might not matter if your wristwatch runs a few seconds slow. But in outer space, critical functions like communication and navigation require even greater clock accuracy down to a billionth of a second — or more. To get the precision needed to fly through the cosmos requires an atomic (原子的) clock. We are sending more spacecraft further into deep space than ever before. But every one of those spacecraft out there depends on its navigation being performed right here on Earth to tell it where it is and, far more importantly, where it is going. In fact, tracking a spacecraft as it travels through deep space is fundamentally a problem of measuring time. Scientists can’t just pull out a ruler and measure how far away the spacecraft is. But they can measure how long it takes a signal to get there and back again. And the concept is exactly the same as an echo. If people stand in front of a mountain and shout, the longer it takes for them to hear the echo back at them, the further away that mountain is. Measuring the amount of time it takes for the signal to travel between Earth and a space probe (航天探测器) is absolutely critical for deep space exploration and can be the difference between a successful mission and a failed mission because getting it wrong by just a tiny fraction of a second might mean the difference between the spacecraft’s safely and gently landing on the surface of another planet and creating yet another crater (坑) on that surface. Just a tiny fraction of a second, and it can be the difference between a mission’s life and death. For this reason, incredibly precise clocks are vital for deep space missions. The only time measuring tool that is equipped for the job is the atomic clock. Not only are they incredibly exact, they are also extraordinarily reliable. And designing and building a precision instrument that can support that is as much art as it is science and engineering. 32. What leads to the need for an atomic clock? A. The use of atomic energy in navigation. B. The necessity of instant communication. C. The functional limitations of a wristwatch. D. The accurateness of measuring time in space. 33. Why does the author give the echo example? A. To explain how scientists locate spacecraft. B. To prove sound travels faster in mountains. C. To show why shouting is useless in deep space. D. To compare space navigation with daily activities. 34. What can be concluded about time measurement from paragraph 3? A. It helps scientists decide what to learn. B. A slight mistake in it could ruin a mission. C. A better technology could make it easier. D. It is used to control the spacecraft’s speed. 35. What will the author probably discuss next? A. Why other clocks fail in space. B. When atomic clocks were invented. C. How atomic clocks are developed. D. Where atomic clocks are used on Earth. When finances feel unclear or unpredictable, your nervous system may remain on high alert, attempting to protect you from potential dangers. ___36___ Fortunately, our financial situation does not simply determine our peace. Yet that was exactly what happened on a sunny afternoon in Istanbul. Gani loved football more than anything. Ever since he was a boy, he dreamed of playing in big matches and leading his team to victory. As captain of Istanbul Yurdum Spor, he had already helped his team reach the final of the Istanbul 1st Amateur League Play-Off Final — a game that could earn them promotion to a higher division. He trained hard every day, running fast, passing accurately, and building strong teamwork. This match meant everything. The stadium was full of excited fans. As the match kicked off, the two teams played with great intensity, both fighting for control. The ball flew back and forth across the field, with each side launching fierce attacks. Gani was at the heart of the action, leading his teammates with energy and determination. He made precise passes, prevented the opponent’s attacks, and even had a few shots on goal. However, in the 22nd minute, an unexpected incident occurred. The goalkeeper, Muhammet Uyanik, launched the ball away from his penalty area (罚球区). He kicked it high into the air. Suddenly, just as the ball rose, a seagull flew across the field. Unfortunately, the bird was hit. The bird fell to the ground with a thud (砰的一声), lying motionless. All that happened was beyond the players’ expectation. They stopped at once. Silence spread across the field. Gani was the first to reach the seagull. He could see that the bird was unresponsive and seemed to be struggling to breathe. Without a moment’s hesitation, he knelt down beside the seagull. Using basic first-aid knowledge he had picked up, Gani decided to take action. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The medical staff praised Gani for his quick thinking and brave actions. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力部分该部分分为第一第二两节。 Hello, international friends club, can I help you? C 25. A 26. D 27. 根据第二段中“Yet the memory of impure food on his parents’ table in India troubled him constantly. That concern was not unfounded. In 2021, nearly one in five food samples in India failed to meet food safety standards, a statistic that shook him completely. What was on his plate became a question he could no longer ignore. (然而,印度父母餐桌上不纯食物的记忆一直困扰着他。这种担忧并非没有根据。2021年,印度近五分之一的食品样本未能达到食品安全标准,这一统计数据让他完全震惊。他盘子里的食物成了他再也不能忽视的问题。)”可知,与食物纯度相关的个人追求让Mantaj辞去了在都柏林的工作。故选C。 【25题详解】 词句猜测题。根据画线词上文“In 2022, ignoring the advice of friends and family, he returned home (2022年,他不顾亲朋好友的劝告,回到了家乡)”以及后文“a business with his cousin Baljit Singh Gill (和他的堂兄巴尔吉特·辛格·吉尔做生意)”可知,2022年,他不顾亲朋好友的劝告,回到了家乡,和他的堂兄Baljit Singh Gill一起创办了一家公司。 故选A。 根据第四段中“They can visit the farm, observe the process, pick their own vegetables, or have the fresh harvest delivered straight to their homes. This model brings transparency (透明性) and trust to an often unclear food system. (他们可以参观农场,观察过程,自己采摘蔬菜,或者让新鲜的收获直接送到家里。这种模式为往往不透明的食品系统带来了透明度和信任。)”可知,商业模式通过让顾客见证食物的生长过程来建立信任。故选D。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Today, around 35 families regularly receive produce from the farm, with many more on the waiting list. (如今,大约有35个家庭定期从农场收到农产品,还有更多的家庭在等待名单上。)”可知,Mantaj农场的农产品很受欢迎。故选A。 C The day when Mount St. D 29. C 30. B 31. 根据第一段中的“The day when Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980 is forever remembered by people around the world. A powerful flow of lava (熔岩) destroyed almost all living things within miles. (1980年圣海伦斯火山爆发的那一天被世界各地的人们永远铭记。一股强大的熔岩流摧毁了数英里内几乎所有的生物。)”以及第二段中的“After the ash and rocks cooled down, scientists suggested that gophers (囊地鼠), by digging and turning over the soil, could bring helpful bacteria and fungi (真菌) to the surface, possibly helping nature recover. (在火山灰和岩石冷却后,科学家认为,囊地鼠通过挖掘和翻动土壤,可以将有益的细菌和真菌带到地表,可能有助于自然恢复。)”可知,作者提及火山爆发是为了引出囊地鼠在生态恢复中的作用。故选D项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“After scientists dropped a few local gophers onto two pieces of land for a day, the area soon became full of new life again. Six years after the experiment, 40,000 plants were growing well on the gopher-treated land. The land that had not been touched remained mostly empty.(科学家们将一些当地的囊地鼠放到两块土地上仅一天后,该区域很快就再次充满了生机。实验六年之后,有囊地鼠活动的土地上生长着40000株长势良好的植物。而未被触碰的土地大部分依旧荒芜。)”可知,囊地鼠实验的结果是实验区域长出了更多植物。故选C项。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Although the gophers played an unusual and important role, the real heroes of the recovery were the fungi.(尽管囊地鼠发挥了非同寻常的重要作用,但生态恢复的真正功臣是真菌。)”以及““These trees have their own fungi that took in nutrients from the fallen needles and helped them grow back quickly,” said Emma Aronson, a co-author of the study. (该研究的合著者艾玛·阿伦森表示:“这些树木有自身的真菌,这些真菌能从掉落的针叶中吸收养分,帮助树木快速恢复生长。”)”可知,真菌极大地助力了森林的恢复。故选B项。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段中的“After the ash and rocks cooled down, scientists suggested that gophers (囊地鼠), by digging and turning over the soil, could bring helpful bacteria and fungi (真菌) to the surface, possibly helping nature recover. (在火山灰和岩石冷却后,科学家认为,囊地鼠通过挖掘和翻动土壤,可以将有益的细菌和真菌带到地表,可能有助于自然恢复。)”和第四段中的“Although the gophers played an unusual and important role, the real heroes of the recovery were the fungi. (虽然囊地鼠扮演了非同寻常且重要的角色,但生态恢复的真正功臣是真菌。)”可知,文章讲述了囊地鼠、真菌这些微小的帮手共同加速了火山爆发后生态系统的恢复,因此“小帮手加速生态系统恢复”最适合作为文章标题。故选D项。 D Here on Earth, it might not matter if your wristwatch runs a few seconds slow. D 33. A 34. B 35. 根据第一段中“But in outer space, critical functions like communication and navigation require even greater clock accuracy down to a billionth of a second — or more. To get the precision needed to fly through the cosmos requires an atomic (原子的) clock.(但在太空中,通信和导航等关键功能需要更高的时钟精度,精确到十亿分之一秒甚至更高。要获得穿越宇宙所需的精度,就需要一个原子钟)”可知,太空探索中对计时精度的高要求,导致了对原子钟的需求。故选D。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Scientists can’t just pull out a ruler and measure how far away the spacecraft is. But they can measure how long it takes a signal to get there and back again. And the concept is exactly the same as an echo.(科学家们不能只是拿出一把尺子来测量宇宙飞船有多远。但他们可以测量信号往返所需的时间。这个概念和回声完全一样)”可知,作者举回声的例子是为了解释科学家如何通过测量信号往返时间来定位宇宙飞船。故选A。 根据第三段中“Measuring the amount of time it takes for the signal to travel between Earth and a space probe (航天探测器) is absolutely critical for deep space exploration and can be the difference between a successful mission and a failed mission because getting it wrong by just a tiny fraction of a second might mean the difference between the spacecraft’s safely and gently landing on the surface of another planet and creating yet another crater (坑) on that surface.(测量信号在地球和航天探测器之间传播所需的时间对于深空探索至关重要,它可能是任务成功与失败的区别,因为仅仅差一小部分秒就可能导致航天器安全、温和地降落在另一个星球的表面,或者在该表面再制造一个坑)”可知,时间测量的微小错误可能会毁掉一项任务。 根据最后一段中“And designing and building a precision instrument that can support that is as much art as it is science and engineering.(设计和制造一种能够支持这一点的精密仪器既是一门艺术,也是一门科学和工程)”可推知,作者接下来可能会讨论原子钟是如何被开发出来的。 When finances feel unclear or unpredictable, your nervous system may remain on high alert, attempting to protect you from potential dangers. ___36___ Fortunately, our financial situation does not simply determine our peace. Knowing you have something set aside, even if it starts very small, can soften your stress in a noticeable way. It sends a message to your mind that you are cared for and prepared. You do not need a large amount to begin. Start with what feels realistic. Even setting aside a few dollars each week creates momentum. The habit matters more than the size. Over time, these small amounts add up and begin to form a foundation of support. A. That constant worry can be exhausting. B. Build a small but steady emergency fund. C. Make a kind and realistic plan for paying down debt. D. They may help you feel more grounded with your money. E. It’s about helping you feel calm and informed with your money. 【36题详解】 上文“When finances feel unclear or unpredictable, your nervous system may remain on high alert, attempting to protect you from potential dangers.(当财务状况不明朗或不可预测时,你的神经系统可能会一直处于高度警惕状态,试图保护你免受潜在危险的伤害)”说明财务不明朗会让神经系统警惕、产生担忧。 前文的“high alert”,“potential dangers”与A项中的“constant worry”相呼应。故选A。 【37题详解】 上文“When you have simple habits that help you see what is happening, make thoughtful decisions, and feel prepared for what comes next, your stress begins to soften. These supportive habits are designed for you.(当你有一些简单的习惯,帮助你看清正在发生的事情,做出深思熟虑的决定,并为接下来的事情做好准备时,你的压力就会开始缓解。这些有益的习惯是为你设计的)”说明有益的习惯能缓解财务压力、帮助应对财务问题。空处和前文为顺接关系,说明这些习惯的具体作用。所以D项“它们可能会帮助你在金钱方面更有底气。”符合语境。D项中的They与上文中的“These supportive habits”相呼应。 E项中的It与上文中的“A spending plan”相呼应,且“not about...It’s about...” 【39题详解】 上文“Recording your income and spending is a powerful way to create emotional clarity. In this way, you can see what is happening with your money.(记录你的收入和支出是一种获得情感清晰的有效方法。通过这种方式,你可以看清你的钱的去向)”说明记录收支能让人清楚资金情况。空处和前文为顺接关系,说明这种清楚了解的好处。所以G项“了解这一点有助于你消除常常导致压力的猜测。”符合语境。G项中的it与上文中的“what is happening with your money”相呼应,且“remove the guesswork”与前文的“see what is happening”形成对应。故选G。 【40题详解】 下文“It is more than a savings account. It is a sense of security. Knowing you have something set aside, even if it starts very small, can soften your stress in a noticeable way.(它不仅仅是一个储蓄账户。 In 1958, during the holiday season, a young student named John Cruitt faced a life-altering tragedy. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: Using basic first-aid knowledge he had picked up, Gani decided to take action. He gently placed his thumb and forefinger on the bird’s chest and began pressing its chest. For about two minutes, he kept going, his eyes fixed on the little creature. As he continued, he began to see movement return to the bird’s legs and eyes. Gradually, the seagull started responding again. The other players brought water over, and Gani carefully gave the bird a few sips. Once the seagull seemed a bit stronger, Gani and his teammates carried it carefully to the medical staff. The medical staff praised Gani for his quick thinking and brave actions. Although the match ultimately ended in defeat for Istanbul Yurdum Spor, costing them the championship title, Gani didn’t let the result define the day. “We missed out on the championship, but helping save a life is a good thing,” he said. “This was more important than the championship.” He had never expected to save a bird’s life on the football field. He realized that sometimes, the most meaningful moments in life come from unexpected places. This experience taught him that compassion and kindness are more valuable than any title. 词类激活 行为类 ①放置:place/put/position/lay ②继续:continue/carry on ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①轻柔地:gently/softly/tenderly ②同情:compassion/sympathy 【点睛】【高分句型1】For about two minutes, he kept going, his eyes fixed on the little creature. 2】As he continued, he began to see movement return to the bird’s legs and eyes.(运用了as引导时间状语从句) 【高分句型3】He realized that sometimes, the most meaningful moments in life come from unexpected places.
