“Wake up!” Sam cheered as he shook his sleeping father. Father’s Day was Sam’s favourite. Every year, he and Dad spent the whole “day” doing something together. Last year, they went to an amusement park and rode all the roller coasters.
“Alright,” Dad said as he climbed out of bed into his wheelchair, following Sam down to the kitchen, where Mum was cooking. “What adventure have you got planned today?” Mum asked. “Maybe we’ll head to the lake and fish.” Dad thought. “Or we could see the new superhero movie,” shouted Sam. He and Dad were really into superhero movies.
Just then, the phone’s sharp ring cut through the quiet. “Right now?” a beat of silence hung in the air. Then came his reply: “Stay calm. I'll be there soon.” Sam’s heart fell like a stone to the bottom. His dad always seemed to get called into work. He hated these moments.
Sam’s lips turned down. “I’ve got an idea.” Dad’s face brightened. “Why don’t you come with me?” “I would love to!” Sam said in surprise. Even if it wasn’t a roller coaster, just being with Dad would be fun.
Sam’s dad led him to the zoo. Inside a room were nurses and a nervous zookeeper. In the corner of the room was a large panda lying on her side. She was groaning (呻吟). Dad calmly made his way over to the panda. He gave her some medicine and gently brushed her thick fur. Sam’s eyes were wide with amazement to see his dad being so brave.
An hour later, Sam’s dad was holding four tiny pink baby pandas. He washed them, rubbed their stomachs, and fed them warm milk. “Sam,” Dad called, “meet the newest attractions for the zoo.” He handed Sam a baby panda.
“This is the best Father’s Day ever,” smiled Sam. “I get to hold a baby panda and I know now you’re a superhero!”

B. Because he couldn’t wait for Father’s Day.
C. Because Dad was late for the superhero movie.
25. What moments are “these moments” in Paragraph 3?
A. Moments when Sam’s heart sinks like a stone to the bottom.

26. How might Sam’s feelings change?
A. Excited→Upset→Amazed→Proud
B. Amazed→Proud→Upset→Excited
C. Proud→Upset→Excited→Amazed
27. What can we know from the story?
A. Sam’s dad didn’t care about Father’s Day.

Weiqi, commonly known as Go in English, is a board game that originated in ancient China. The game is considered one of the Four Arts that Chinese literators (文人) were required to master. Besides Weiqi, they had to learn Chinese calligraphy (shu), painting (hua) and guqin playing (qin).
Weiqi has a history of over 4,000 years, even older than Chinese chess. According to some historical records, the game, known as Yi in its early years, is said to have been invented by Yao (尧) . Seeing that his son had a bad temper (脾气) , Yao was rather worried. So he decided to find something that could help educate his son, and a simple board game came to him.
The rules of Weiqi are simple: using black and white stones (棋子) ,two players take turns placing their stones on empty cross points of the board. The goal is to surround (包围) a larger totaI area on the board while preventing one’s own stones from being taken by the opponent (对手) . Stones do not move and are only taken off the board if they are completely surrounded.
The scene of two people playing Weiqi appears in many traditional Chinese paintings. The image of a player holding a stone over the board, looking for a place to put it, was later turned into a popular Chinese idiom (成语) ,which means “unsure about making a move”. The expression is still widely used today.
With its development, Weiqi grew in popularity. Later, it spread to Japan, South and North Korea and Western countries. Today, it has become an international board game.
28. What’s the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. The origin (起源) of Weiqi.
B. The rules of Weiqi.
C. The development of Weiqi.
29. What does the underlined expression “unsure about making a move”mean in the fourth paragraph?
30. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Weiqi has a history of more than 5,000 years.
B. Weiqi is a simple board game that is enjoyed by the old.
C. Weiqi has become more and more popular around the world.
31. In which part of a newspaper can you probably read the passage?
A. Science. B. Travel. C. Culture.

Ma Junhe, a 14-year-old student from Zhengzhou in Henan Province, recently made a telescope (望远镜) . Costing only 70 yuan to make, the telescope allows him to see the craters (环形山) on the moon.
His interest in physics encouraged him to make this telescope. After learning about Newtonian Reflector Telescopes (牛顿式反射望远镜) in his physics class,he decided to make one himself.
Because he didn’t have a lot of money, he had to be creative to find what he needed to make the telescope. He bought lenses (镜头) online, and collected other materials on his own. “I used an old plastic pipe (塑料管) for the lens cone (镜筒), and it was held by my drum stand,” Ma said.
Ma faced many challenges along the way. First, he used cardboard to make a lens cone, as taught in class, but it didn’t work well. With his teacher’s advice, he used a plastic pipe. When he set up the eyepiece (目镜), he found it was much smaller than the pipe’s opening. He had to try many times to make sure it fit.
After failing 10 times, Ma finally succeeded. His telescope has a magnification (放大率) of 90 times, allowing him to clearly see the moon’s craters.
“Seeing the moon’s craters through my telescope made me feel so excited and good about myself,” said Ma. “With enough drive and hard work, even with little money, anyone can do something so amazing. ”

24. Why did Sam cheer and shake his father?
A. Because Mum made some delicious food.
B. Because he couldn’t wait for Father’s Day.
C. Because Dad was late for the superhero movie.
25. What moments are “these moments” in Paragraph 3?
A. Moments when Sam’s heart sinks like a stone to the bottom.
B. Moments when Dad has to work on important days.
C. Moments when Sam can’t find interesting things to do.
26. How might Sam’s feelings change?
A. Excited→Upset→Amazed→Proud
B. Amazed→Proud→Upset→Excited
C. Proud→Upset→Excited→Amazed
27. What can we know from the story?
A. Sam’s dad didn’t care about Father’s Day.
B. Sam disliked going to work with his dad.
C. Sam thought his dad was a superhero at last.
B 25. B 26. A 27. C
Sam cheered as he shook his sleeping father. Father’s Day was Sam’s favourite. Every year, he and Dad spent the whole ‘day’ doing something together.”,山姆欢呼着叫醒爸爸,是因为父亲节是他最喜欢的日子,他迫不及待要和爸爸一起过节。
根据划线所在句“His dad always seemed to get called into work. He hated these moments.”
最后一段Sam说的话“I know now you’re a superhero!”
C
A. Science. B. Travel. C. Culture.
A 29. B 30. C 31. C

32. How much did Ma Junhe’s telescope cost?
