Their spacecraft splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico, near the coast of Tallahassee, Florida. The return marked the end of their much longer-than-expected journey in space. They were originally supposed to come back months earlier. However, a series of technical problems turned their short mission into a 286-day spaceflight. The two astronauts took off on June 5, 2024. But soon after reaching the International Space Station (ISS), they ran into several technical problems. At first, Wilmore and Williams planned to stay in space for only about a week. Instead, their mission lasted nearly ten months. During that time, they orbited the earth 4,576 times and traveled a total of 195 million kilometers. NASA decided to keep them on the ISS for safety reasons, but this decision worried many people around the world. They were often called “Butch and Suni” and their situation was described as being “stuck at work” in space. Even though their stay was extended, they didn’t just wait for a ride home. They worked as full-time members of the ISS crew. They did scientific experiments, repaired equipment, and even performed spacewalks together. Sunita Williams set a new record for female astronauts — spending a total of 62 hours outside the station during nine spacewalks. Space has a big impact (巨大作用) on the human body. In low gravity, muscles and bones become weaker. For example, the muscles in the back, neck, and legs lose strength, and bones can break more easily and take longer to heal. Blood does not flow the same way in space. It can stay in the head and cause eye problems. Space can also affect the brain, skin, immune system, and even genes. Let’s welcome Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore back to the earth and wish them a smooth recovery! 38. What do the underlined words “splashed down” mean in Paragraph 1? 39. Silverstone, who appeared in the 1995 movie Clueless, said she thought the fruit was a tomato. But when she bit into it and found that it had an unusual taste, she realized that it was not the common food. Plant expert, Jessica Damiano, said the fruit that looked like a tomato appears to have been a Jerusalem cherry. Often sold as a houseplant, all parts of the Jerusalem cherry are poisonous. The plant is not only harmful to humans but also to dogs, cats and horses. Eating large amounts can be deadly. Silverstone was lucky because she did not swallow the berry. She was also lucky because the berries were reddish orange. This means they were ripe. While all parts of the Jerusalem cherry are poisonous, the plant’s unripe berries can be especially dangerous. The Jerusalem cherry is a member of the nightshade (茄属植物) family. It is in the same family of plants that includes tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, potatoes and tomatillos. Although the fruits of those crops are safe to eat, their leaves are poisonous. The Jerusalem cherry is not the only poisonous plant that looks like a safe one. The poisonous Carolina horsenettle fruit also looks like a tomato. However, its common name is a dead giveaway that it is dangerous. It is called “devil’s tomato”. Other members of the nightshade family are poisonous in different ways. A plant named deadly nightshade, or belladonna, is so poisonous that it was used as a murder weapon (武器) in Europe during the Middle Ages, a time more than 500 years ago. Its berries, however, could be mistaken for blueberries. 42. How did Silverstone know Jerusalem cherry was not a common tomato? A. By touching it. B. By tasting it. C. By smelling it. D. By searching for it online. 43. What does the fruit of deadly nightshade look like? A. Weapons. B. Blueberries. C. Birds. D. Humans. 44. What is the author’s attitude toward the plants mentioned in the text? A. Worried. B. Positive. C. Hopeful. D. Doubtful. 45. Where is the text most likely from? A. A science magazine. B. A book review. C. A news report. D. A story book. B 43. B 44. A 45. 根据第一段中“But when she bit into it and found that it had an unusual taste, she realized that it was not the common food. (但当她咬了一口,发现它有一种不同寻常的味道时,她意识到这不是普通的食物(番茄)。)”可知,Silverstone是通过品尝发现Jerusalem cherry不是普通的番茄。 【43题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Its berries, however, could be mistaken for blueberries. But after forty days without a fish, the boy’s parents had told him that the old man was now definitely and finally salao (倒霉的), which is the worst form of unlucky, and the boy had gone at their orders in another boat which caught three good fish the first week. It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his boat empty and he always went down to help him carry either the coiled lines or the gaff (鱼叉钩) and the sail that was furled (卷起) around the mast. The sail was mended with flour bags and, furled, it looked like the flag of lasting failure. Which word best describes the old man? A. Moody. B. Gentle. C. Optimistic. D. Proud. D On March 18, 2025, American astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams finally returned to the earth. A. 起飞 B. 着陆 C. 漂浮 D. 坠毁 39. Which of the following is the correct order of the events done by the two astronauts? ①They finally came back to the earth. ②They took off and reached the ISS in 2024. ③They did experiments and repaired equipment. ④They had to stay on the ISS for safety reasons. A. ②→④→③→① B. ④→③→②→① C. ④→②→③→① D. ②→③→④→① 41. What is the text mainly about? A. The dangers of spaceflight. B. The exciting lifestyles of astronauts. C. The impact of space on the human body. D. The story of two astronauts’ extended mission. E While on a trip to England, Alicia Silverstone tasted a berry she found along a sidewalk. 第Ⅱ卷(共三节 满分30分) 注意事项: 1.必须使用0.5毫米黑色墨迹签字笔在答题卡上题目所指示的答题区域内作答。答在试题卷、草稿上无效。 2.第Ⅱ卷共三节,满分30分。 第一节 补全对话(共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分) 阅读下列对话,从所给选项中,选出能够完成对话的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两个多余选项。 Tom: Hey, Jack!
