A Everyone wants to write beautifully. And I love something special—Chinese calligraphy. When I was a little child, I loved to watch my grandparents write Chinese characters with ink brushes. Later I came to learn about many Chinese calligraphers, such as Wang Xizhi of the Jin Dynasty. At the age of 9, I joined a writing class to learn Chinese calligraphy. The teacher showed many of his calligraphy works. I told myself that I would practise hard and try to become as good as him. At first, I followed the teacher carefully. As soon as the teacher wrote a character, I wrote the same one. Before long I could write many difficult characters. I was happy and believed that I was talented(有天赋的) in Chinese calligraphy. However, after a year of learning, although I practised hard, the teacher pointed out some problems in my calligraphy. I thought it was just a way to improve my writing skills, but he told me that Chinese calligraphy is part of Chinese culture. Besides, I thought it was just about mimicry(模仿),but he told me that Chinese calligraphy is a creation that comes from the heart. He said that a writer should think carefully about what he wants to show before he starts to write. I'm not sure if I fully understood the teacher. But from then on, I spent more time thinking and practising my writing. I will continue practising and I hope one day I can know the essence(精华) of Chinese calligraphy. 1.Who got the writer interested in Chinese calligraphy in his early years? __________________________________________________________________________ 2.How did the writer feel about his progress in calligraphy? __________________________________________________________________________ 3. What did the teacher think of Chinese calligraphy? __________________________________________________________________________ 4. What did the teacher think a writer should do before writing? __________________________________________________________________________ 5.What is the passage mainly about? __________________________________________________________________________ B Acupuncture(针灸)has a really long history in China. According to Records of the Grand Historian, written by Sima Qian about 2,100 years ago, Bian Que was famous for saving a prince from“death”by using acupuncture. Today, acupuncture is still used in China. Li Ming, a 42-year-old woman, said acupuncture really helped treat her dry eyes. In 2009, Li started to have dry eyes. After she tried many other ways, a friend told her to see a doctor who was good at treating the illness with acupuncture.Li's treatment lasted one and a half years, and after over 130 visits, her eyes became wet enough for her to go on with her work in. Liu Cunzhi, a teacher from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, is using acupuncture to treat people with Alzheimer's disease.“Many of them come to me twice a week for seven or eight years to stop their illness from becoming worse,”he said. In fact, acupuncture is the most widely used traditional(传统的) medicine practice all over the world. Between 2002 and 2012, in the US, the number of people getting acupuncture treatment grew by 50% and the number of licensed(持有执照的) acupuncturists grew by 100%. What's more, a report in Time magazine said that acupuncture is becoming popular in the US, as more and more Americans find acupuncture useful. Now people in 183 countries and areas are using acupuncture. 1.Why does the writer mention Bian Que in the first paragraph? __________________________________________________________________________ 2. How did Li Ming get better from her dry eyes? __________________________________________________________________________ 3.How does acupuncture help people with Alzheimer's disease? __________________________________________________________________________ 4.What is the last paragraph mainly about? __________________________________________________________________________ 5.What do you think of the future of acupuncture? Please explain __________________________________________________________________________ C Should you see a doctor every time you're ill? Of course not! Doctors don't have a cure for everything. In fact, some common illnesses are difficult for doctors to cure. Sometimes people use different home remedies(治疗). The cold is one example. People in many countries don't take medicine for a cold. They just drink some chicken soup. Many people believe that chicken soup is a natural and healthy cure for a cold. And it really helps. And in China, it's common to cure a headache with an egg. You boil the egg, take off the shell(壳),and rub(揉) the egg on your face, head and neck until the egg becomes cool. Some people think this helps you sleep better, too. Rubbing with the egg relaxes you. Often, headaches happen because of stress, so relaxing is a great idea. What about a fever? There are a lot of different home remedies, but an interesting one uses vinegar(醋).In Russia, people rub it into the skin(皮肤). Vinegar makes your skin feel cooler, and it can help reduce your body temperature a little. One of the world's oldest home remedies is tea. You can use tea for all kinds of simple stomachaches and sore throats. Some ingredients in tea make a sore throat feel better and help you relax. 1.What is a natural cure for a cold in many countries? __________________________________________________________________________ 2.Why does rubbing with a boiled egg help with a headache? __________________________________________________________________________ 3.How do Russian people deal with a fever at home? __________________________________________________________________________ 4.What can you do if you have a sore throat according to the passage? __________________________________________________________________________ 5.What is the passage mainly about? __________________________________________________________________________ D Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring long-lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said,“Happiness depends on ourselves.”In other words,we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier. The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend too much time thinking about the future, for example, getting into college or getting a good job, so we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasure, such as reading a good book, listening to your favourite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several friends often live happier and healthier lives. Another secret of living a happy life is to be active(活跃的).Many people do dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities. Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes. In short, happiness isn't far away. It starts with small actions every day. 1.According to Aristotle, where does happiness come from? __________________________________________________________________________ 2.Why do people miss the joy of the present sometimes? __________________________________________________________________________ 3.How can being active help people feel happier? __________________________________________________________________________ 4.How does helping others benefit us? __________________________________________________________________________ 5.What is the passage mainly about? __________________________________________________________________________ E Teenagers often face a roller coaster(过山车)of emotions. One moment they may feel happy, and the next, sad or angry. Why is this? Experts say physical changes during the teenage years play a big role. As bodies grow and brains develop, hormones change quickly. That can cause emotional ups and downs. It's common for teenagers to find it hard to control these feelings. For example, 15-year-old Lily once argued with her mother over a small thing-whether to wear a jacket.“I knew she was worried about me catching a cold, but I felt she wanted to control me,”Lily said.“I shouted at her and then felt sorry at once.” Hiding feelings isn't a good solution, though many teens do it.“I pretend to be calm in front of my friends, but actually, I'm often nervous about fitting in with them,”said 16-year-old Tom. Experts suggest that recognizing(识别) their emotions is the first step to managing them. Writing diaries or talking to their parents or teachers can help teens express their true feelings. Another helpful tip is to avoid thinking too much about the past.“If you had a fight with a friend yesterday, don't let it influence today,”said expert Ms Lee.“Learn from the experience and move on.” It's also important to remember that emotions are normal-everyone feels upset sometimes. The key is to stay in control of your feelings. 1.What causes teenagers' changing emotions? __________________________________________________________________________ 2.Why did Lily argue with her mother? __________________________________________________________________________ 3.What do experts suggest teenagers do first to deal with their emotions? __________________________________________________________________________ 4.How should teenagers treat the past? __________________________________________________________________________ 5.What is the writer's main purpose in writing this passage? __________________________________________________________________________ F People often think of the North Pole(北极) and the South Pole as similar frozen(冰冻的) wastelands. They are both places with very cold temperatures and few people live there. However, the North Pole is not much like the South Pole. So what is the real situation there? The North Pole has no land, only thick ice. Temperatures hardly go above 32°F-water turns into ice at this temperature. Most of the time, it stays below 0℃.In winter, temperatures are usually as low as -30°F. Although conditions were poor, people tried for many years to reach the North Pole. From 1901 to 1906, Robert Peary tried three times to reach the North Pole, but he didn't make it. It was not until three years later that he finally succeeded in getting to this environment full of troubles and problems. There are few things more dangerous than crossing the Arctic(北极) on foot. People who stay there may face many problems: very cold temperatures, sudden storms, and even hunger. Most of the area is uninhabited(无人居住的), so few people can live in such a difficult place. People might think that with such low temperatures for most of the year, the ice would be thick and hard. However, this is not true in the Arctic. The movement of the ocean water under the ice may cause many different changes on the surface. Sometimes the ice breaks into two opening lanes(道) of water called“leads”. Anyone who falls into a lead can be frozen to death in a few minutes. 1.What's the usual temperature in winter in the North Pole? __________________________________________________________________________ 2.When did Robert Peary reach the North Pole? __________________________________________________________________________ 3.What makes it dangerous to cross the Arctic on foot? __________________________________________________________________________ 4.Why does the ice in the Arctic break into leads? __________________________________________________________________________ 5.What does this passage mainly talk about? __________________________________________________________________________ G China has worked hard for many years to return rescued(被营救的) Asian elephants to the wild. Recently, a success story came from Xishuangbanna in Yunnan. A rescued elephant named A'Bao joined a wild elephant group. A'Bao was rescued in Pu'er, Yunnan in 2018 when he was 12 years old. He got lost from his group then. After years of careful training, A'Bao was strong enough to live in the wild. In 2024, he was returned to the wild. In fact, the Asian Elephant Protection Centre provided A'Bao with healthy food and a special training plan to help him. From April 14th to May 17th, 2024, he trained alone in the wild before being set free. He learned how to find food and stay away from danger. Luckily, on September 5th, 2024, the scientists from the Centre saw A'Bao drinking with 34 wild elephants in Wild Elephant Valley(野象谷).Through his collar(颈圈),they knew where he was and what he did. This means A'Bao got used to the wildlife again. For the first time, China succeeded in returning a rescued elephant to nature.“We hope A'Bao will start his own family in the wild,”said one of the scientists.“We will keep watching him through his collar. We plan to use what we've learned from A'Bao to help other rescued elephants to return to nature.” This success is a big step for wildlife protection. By studying A'Bao's journey, scientists want to find better ways to give more elephants a new life in the wild. Every step forward in understanding the journey brings us closer to making sure that more rescued animals can live in their natural homes. 1.Where did the success story happen? __________________________________________________________________________ 2.How long did it take A'Bao to be able to live in the wild again? __________________________________________________________________________ 3.How can the scientists know about A'Bao's everyday life? __________________________________________________________________________ 4.What did the scientists do to help A'Bao return to the wild? __________________________________________________________________________ 5.What's the meaning of returning A'Bao to nature? __________________________________________________________________________ H Do you know Death Valley? It's in California and Nevada, and it's really special! Death Valley is the hottest and driest place in all of North America. Although it's hard to live there, Death Valley is full of life. It's not easy to live in Death Valley. It hardly ever rains, just a little bit every year. And it's so hot. In summer, its highest temperature can be over 46℃. The ground is mostly sand and rocks. However, plants and animals still live there! People have found over 1,000 kinds of plants. And there are 51 kinds of mammals(哺乳动物),36 kinds of reptiles(爬行动物),6 kinds of fish, and over 300 kinds of birds! Some of these animals are big, like sheep and mountain lions. The biggest problem for living things in Death Valley is water. Some plants develop deep roots to take in groundwater. Kangaroo rats(更格卢鼠) get water from the seeds(种子) of other plants. It's a hard place, but lots of living things still find a way to make it their home. Isn't Death Valley amazing? 1.In all of North America, what is Death Valley like? __________________________________________________________________________ 2.What's the highest temperature in Death Valley in summer? __________________________________________________________________________ 3.What is the ground in Death Valley mostly made of? __________________________________________________________________________ 4.What's the biggest problem for living things in Death Valley? __________________________________________________________________________ 5.What do you think of Death Valley? Why? __________________________________________________________________________ 第1页,共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
