I can still see myself, age 8.On a warm early summer evening,I stopped in front of a music store
because something had caught my eye.Maybe it was the shiny silver keys contrasting with the black ebony
wood.I begged my parents for a whole year, and they finally gave in and let me take lessons.
Week after week,I made the trek down city streets to the music store, where I took lessons from
Mr.Markiewicz,an older man who wasn't particularly child-friendly.It's an especially difficult instrument
to play well-something about breath control, managing one's tongue and fingers, and keeping spit from
blocking the works.Getting one moving tone out of a clarinet()is a real success.I recalled the early
struggle to get that first, clear note out of the instrument. It took about five days. And then I made every effort
to practice those early scales, accompanied by the disapproval of Mr.Markiewicz, and the shaking of his
head as I hit one wrong note after another. But I persisted.Other kids who had taken up the clarinet gave it
up one by one.
After college, other things took over. But my mind occasionally wandered back to the good times I'd had
with the clarinet.Yes,my dear,we were young and starry-eyed,but weren't those happy days?What
happened to us?Where did they go?I decided to reach out to that long-ago love and ask if she remembered
me,the eager boy who had engaged her in many a heartfelt musical conversation. So I reintroduced myself.
To my great delight, what came from the clarinet was a clear middle C that sounded so beautiful. It felt like

the whole world was listening.I continued to play as long as my mouthpiece would hold out.I lost her once
and won't lose her again.
The famous author Isaac Bashevis Singer once wrote:"In love,as in other matters, the young are just
beginners and..the art of loving matures with age and experience."
He must have been a clarinetist.

In this latest episode of Future Chronicles,an imagined history of future inventions,we journey to 2035,
when undersea living became a reality.Rowan Hooper tells us how it happened.
The Sama-Bajau are a native seaborne people from Southeast Asia. For thousands of years they lived a
coastal lifestyle. But sea-level rise flooded their coastal homes. In 2035,a community of Bajau people raised
money to build a modern floating and subsea community. The habitats were built using a 3D-printing method.
In deep areas 20 meters below the sea surface, people breathed special gas to avoid getting sick and had
to rise slowly to the surface. These homes had floor doors called"moon doors"that opened into the ocean.
People could swim out directly for fun, farming,or science.Underwater hotels became popular for adventure
tourism.Scientists also used these homes to study the deep sea,map the ocean floor, and learn more about
whales and other deep-sea animals. Some communities offered health treatments underwater.Breathing high-
pressure oxygen for short times each day helped alleviate certain illnesses and delay aging.Because of this,
rich older people began living in deep modules to stay healthier and live longer.
The Bajau were already adapted to marine life. Some Bajau divers spent up to 5 hours per day
underwater, and they were able to free-dive-without using compressed air-to 70 meters deep, holding their
breath for up to 15 minutes.Once they moved to subsea habitats, some Bajau renounced life on the surface,
spending most of their time underwater and choosing body adjustment and even gene editing to improve their
sea nature. Some Bajau broke their eardrums on purpose to dive deeper more easily.Others used a natural
substance in their lungs to help them handle high pressure, like whales and dolphins do.
Most maritime communities were self-sufficient,producing all the food they needed by raising fish,
shellfish, and seaweed in the water, and growing other crops on the surface.Energy came from solar panels,
wind, waves, and heat from the ocean floor, depending on where they were. Some communities focused on
tourism, and others on fighting climate change by growing large amounts of seaweed, sinking it deep into the
sea,and selling carbon credits.
28.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The new dangers of deep-sea exploration.
B.The spread of advanced diving skills.
C.The diverse functions of underwater habitats.
D.The construction process of underwater habitats.

29.What does the underlined word "renounced"in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Changed.
B.Explored.
C.Protected.
D.Abandoned.
30.What can we know according to the last paragraph?
A.Crops were no longer grown on the surface.
B.Food was mainly obtained through purchase.
C.The life of underwater communities was sustainable.
D.The majority of communities relied on tourism.
31.What is the text?
A.A news report.
B.A sci-fi article.

At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)Media Lab,scientist Nataliya Kosmyna is
developing wearable brain-computer interfaces()to help people with mental illnesses who can't speak
communicate with their minds.
About two years ago,Kosmyna started getting emails from strangers saying AI use had changed their
cognitive()ability-especially their memory. She also noticed colleagues were relying on AI,and
that job applicants'emails became longer and more formal;during Zoom interviews, they'd pause and glance
away."Was AI helping them?"she wondered, shocked."And if they were using AI,how much did they
even understand of the answers they were giving?"
With some colleagues,Kosmyna set up an experiment to record people's brain activity while they wrote
essays, either with no digital assistance,or with AI.The participants were asked, right after they had handed
in their work,if they could recall what they had written. She found that whatever the people using AI felt was
going on inside their brains, there wasn't much happening up there."Barely anyone in the AI group could
give a quote,Kosmyna says."That was concerning, because you just wrote it and you do not remember
anything.”
As Kosmyna observes, writing an essay requires skills that are important in our wider lives:the ability to
combine information, consider competing perspectives and construct an argument. You use these skills in
everyday conversations."How are you going to deal with that? Are you going to be,like,'Err...can I jusl
check my phone?'"she says.
"The fundamental issue is that as soon as a technology makes our lives easier,we're evolutionaril)
programmed to use it,"Kosmyna says."Our brains need friction to learn. However, technology has been t
create a'frictionless'user experience to ensure that we will meet no resistance. It is why we unthinkingly
work on our digital devices. So you use self-checkouts,order everything from an app and reach for your phone
to do the maths sum you could do in your head. You input your destination on Google maps and travel from A
to B on autopilot..”
Is this the dawn of a society where it is easy to become stupid because machines can think for you?
32.Why did Kosmyna design the AI-related experiment?
A.To understand strangers'brain changes.
B.To assess AI's workplace efficiency.
C.To explore AI's effect on cognition.
D.To develop a new brain-computer interface.
33.What did Kosmyna's experiment reveal about AI use?
A.It bettered the quality of written content.
B.It enhanced the ability to integrate information.
C.It made people less interested in everyday conversations.
D.It reduced people's brain activity and memory.
英语(一)第5页共8页
34.What is the author's main concern about "frictionless"technology?
A.It leads to the replacement of humans by AI.B.It makes daily tasks overly complicated.
C.It weakens human independent thinking.
D.It ruins the digital user experience.
35.What might be the best title for the text?
A.Does AI make humans stupid?
B.Is a frictionless future what people desire?
C.How is AI reshaping people's social activities?
D.Why is our brain programmed to seek a quick fix?
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Being your own best friend goes beyond self-care.It is nurturing yourself daily by giving yourself love,
attention, and grace that you would give to your favorite people.
Give what you need in that moment.
People are neither programmed nor predictable like robots.Today's needs might be drastically different
from tomorrow's.36 Sometimes showing up for yourself might look like saying"no",while other times it
involves saying“yes”.
Keep it simple.
Why wait for that big moment? It's the daily little things that ensure your practice is sustainable and
consistent.Taking 15 minutes out of the day for a power nap goes a long way.Drinking a glass of water in the
morning or stretching for five minutes can also set a positive tone for the day.37
Become who you need to be.
38 Ideally,we are expressing ourselves on our own terms.Thankfully, this era encourages us to
authentically dress and style ourselves, rather than follow societal norms.
Don't beat yourself up.
Be gentle with yourself when you have to say no.We understand when friends break plans,or when
things come up,so we need to be just as forgiving of ourselves.39 On the contrary,it's self-respect in
action.Treat yourself with the same kindness you'd offer a close friend in the same situation.
Set boundaries.
Boundaries are necessary for maintaining inner peace and healthy relationships.Otherwise,do you want
to be a people-pleaser with unconscious resentment?Clear boundaries help others know where you stand.
40 And over time, they help you attract relationships built on mutual respect-not duty.
A.Saying no isn't selfish.
B.This actually strengthens trust.
C.It sets you apart from others.
D.Who governs how we express ourselves?
E.Why do you need to be forgiving of yourself?
F.Therefore,be flexible enough to switch strategies.
G.These small habits add up to meaningful change.

At the edge of Oakwood Middle School lay a patch of neglected land-overgrown with weeds, littered
with old bricks, and long forgotten by everyone. That was until Dr.Maple Green, the kind-hearted botany
teacher with brown curls, announced her plan:"We're turning this into a school garden!"
She gathered all the students one sunny morning."This isn't just dirt,"she said, eyes sparkling."It's
a canvas for hope."She handed out silver trowels(),seed packets, and tiny wooden plant markers.
"We'll work like ants or birds-each of us doing our part.At the end of the season,we'll hold a Best
Plant'award-not for who grows the biggest, but who shows the most care."
Excited chatter filled the air.One by one, students pressed seeds into the freshly turned soil-beans,
peas, lettuce, and even a few golden marigolds. Some whispered lullabies to their seeds;others told silly
jokes, hoping to make them sprout faster.Teachers watched from the sidelines, smiling as new memories took
root.
From that day on,the garden became the heartbeat of the school.Every morning, students rushed to
check their plots. In soft grow lights and natural sunlight, tiny green shoots soon peeked through the earth.
Cheers erupted when the first seedlings appeared--“Mine grew!'”“Look at my beans!”-and even the
quietest kids beamed with pride.
Dr.Maple taught them how to care for their plants:water gently, like offering a drink to a friend;watch
the leaves--smooth means“happy”,curled means“thirsty”;always talk to their plants.“They love
stories,"she'd say with a wink."Especially ones about rainbows and summer days."
One afternoon,Dr.Maple noticed Iko sitting alone beside his tomato plant, shoulders slumped. Its
leaves were drooping(),yellowing at the edges, while others nearby stood tall and green.
“What's wrong,Iko?”she asked,kneeling beside him.“I think my tomato is sad,”he whispered.
“h's not growing like the others..”

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
