Sony has released the follow-up to their popular noise cancelling (降噪) headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM6, and we were excited to try them out. Here’s what we found.
One of the biggest changes is that these headphones can fold. The old model could not fold, which made them hard to carry. Now they fit into a smaller case, making them perfect for travel. Sony also made the headband wider, which makes the headphones much more comfortable. This helps spread the weight better across your head.
The battery life is good but not amazing. You can listen for up to 30 hours with noise cancellation on, or 40 hours with it off. The best part is that they charge (充电) very quickly. Just three minutes of charging gives you 3 hours of listening time. You can keep listening while the headphones are charging.
The noise cancellation technology is excellent. Sony added four more microphones to make a total of 12 around the headphones. This helps block outside noise much better. The headphones work especially well on airplanes, blocking engine noise while you enjoy your music.
The sound quality is very impressive. The bass sounds are deep and powerful, while the higher sounds are clear and detailed. Music sounds rich and full, with great balance between low and high sounds. Whether you listen to rock music, classical pieces, or podcasts, everything sounds amazing. The headphones handle different types of audio content perfectly, from quiet voices to loud drums.
Overall, the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones are excellent. They are more comfortable, easier to carry, and sound better than many other headphones. They cost more money than basic headphones, but the quality and features make them worth buying if you love good audio.

New Rules for E-bikes in China
Do you ride an electric bicycle (e-bike) to school in the morning? From September 1, the new national standards for e-bikes have taken effect.
Speed ≤25km/h
·If the e-bikes go at a speed higher than 25 kilometres per hour, the motor will stop running.
Other rules
·With the Beidou system, owners can check on their phone where the bike is. Besides, this function also helps with traffic management—for example, in a traffic accident involving an e-bike, the positioning data can be used to find out the accident process.
·Modifications (改装) to certain parts of e-bikes, such as the battery and speed limiter are not allowed.
·The use of rearview mirrors and turn signals is encouraged. Rearview mirrors help riders observe the traffic situation behind, while turn signals allow other road users to clearly understand where the rider wants to go.
________
·E-bikes (including batteries) must not be more than 55 kilograms. This rule can let the bike run farther and need less charging. What’s more, it is easier for riders to control, especially in unexpected situations.
Age rule
·People who ride electric bikes must be no younger than 16. Kids under 16 can’t ride them on public roads. They don’t have enough skills and experiences to deal with busy traffic. Besides, people over 12 years old are not allowed to be carried on e-bikes as this will make the bike too heavy and dangerous to drive.
Helmet wearing requirement
·Riders and passengers (if any) must wear safety helmets when riding. Helmets are the most useful protective equipment to reduce head injuries in an accident fall or crash.
1.What’s the speed limit for e-bikes?

3.Why mustn’t kids under 16 ride e-bikes on public roads?
A.Because their body weight is not fit for e-bikes yet.
B.Because they aren’t prepared to deal with busy traffic.
C.Because they don’t have enough skills to carry other kids.
D.Because too many e-riders on the road may cause busy traffic.
4.The underlined word “equipment” means ________.
A.tools used for a certain purpose B.money needed to buy something
C.people who operate a machine D.place where something is made
5.The Beidou system can help e-riders ________.
A.avoid traffic accidents B.observe the traffic situation
C.manage modification of e-bikes D.find the location of the e-bikes
6.What’s the purpose of these rules?
A.To stop kids from driving e-bikes. B.To give suggestions to road users.
C.To improve riding safety for e-riders. D.To inform riders of the speed requirements.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth is about the many dangers and strange creatures Professor Otto Lidenbrock, his nephew Axel and their guide Hans meet on their way to the centre of the Earth. Axel is the one who tells the story. In Chapter 14, they find the entrance to the Earth’s centre.
An Extract from Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne
We reached the top of the volcano (火山) before sunrise. I leaned over the edge of the big hole and looked down. I felt dizzy and my legs shook. I wasn’t used to this feeling and I didn’t know what to do. I was about to fall in when I felt a firm hand holding me back. It was our guide Hans.
My uncle Professor Lidenbrock took out a rope. He threw one end of it down the big hole and tied the other end to a large rock. ‘Now Axel,’ he said, ‘let’s put our most fragile (易碎的) and important things into our backpacks.’
‘But,’ I exclaimed, ‘what about our clothes, the ropes and the ladders?’
‘They’ll go down themselves!’
‘How?’ I asked.
‘Like this!’ I was used to my uncle’s impatience. He liked to do things quickly. He put all the non-fragile things into a bag and simply threw it down the hole.
I heard the noise of falling stones as the bag fell down the hole. My uncle leaned over the big hole to watch the bag going down with a smile. Then he turned to me.
‘Now then,’ he cried, ‘it’ s our turn!’
‘We might stay alive if we were mountain goats ...’ I thought to myself nervously.

JUST ASK
How many movies have you seen about space? It looks fun, right? But is it? A lot of readers ask questions about the International Space Station (ISS 国际空间站). Today, we’ve answered four of the best ones.
Editor: Lily Bailey
Q1: What do astronauts do on the International Space Station every day?
Answer: They do a lot! They go on space walks, repair things, do experiments and communicate with Earth. But too much work isn’t good for anyone and we all need a little fun! Astronauts play games, watch movies and listen to music on it. If they get stressed, they relax by enjoying the views of our beautiful planet from space.
Q2: How much exercise do astronauts do?
Answer: Well, quite a lot. Take the astronaut Koichi Wakata for example. He lived on the ISS for188 days and worked out for at least two hours every day. Some astronauts go jogging! Alan Shepard played moon golf in space. British astronaut Tim Peake even ran a marathon in space in2016 and set a Guinness World Record.
Q3: Does the body change in space?
Answer: Yes, it does. Everything in space floats. Imagine sneezing (打喷嚏) in space! This means it’s easy to lift things. Astronauts train a lot on Earth, but their bodies get weak if they don’t do enough exercise. And this can happen in just a few weeks! These are only a few examples of the problems astronauts can have. Their muscles and hearts lose strength and their bones get weaker. Sometimes, when they get back to Earth, they’re not strong enough to walk! The answer is exercise and not just a little exercise but a lot!
Q4: When and how do astronauts sleep?
Answer: Good question. We all need to get enough sleep, but in space, with 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets every 24 hours, that’s not easy. Too many changes from day to night make it difficult to know when to sleep. So astronauts have very strict routines and wear special blindfolds to keep from light.
1.Astronauts do a lot of work on the ISS except ________.
A.going on space walks B.repairing equipment
C.playing games outside D.conducting experiments
2.________ set a Guinness World Record for marathon in space.
A.Lily Bailey B.Koichi Wakata C.Alan Shepard D.Tim Peake
3.The underlined word “this” in the third answer refers to ________.
A.doing enough exercise B.sneezing in space
C.making the body weak D.training on Earth
4.To reduce the harm of space activities on the body, astronauts should ________.
A.lift things often B.do a lot of exercise in space
C.sneeze carefully D.avoid lifting heavy things
5.The underlined word “blindfolds” means ________ in the passage.
A.special tools to block sunlight B.soft clothes to keep warm
C.glasses to help see clearly D.headphones to listen to sound
6.Lily Bailey answered the four questions to ________.
A.explain how the ISS was built
B.introduce the life on the ISS
C.describe the history of space exploration
D.list the countries that built the ISS

1.Why can people carry the new headphones easily?
A.they can fold B.the headbands are wider
C.they are lighter D.they cancel a lot of noise
2.How long can you use the headphones if you turn on noise cancellation?
A.3 hours. B.12 hours. C.30 hours. D.40 hours.
3.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The headphones can’t be used while charging.
B.The headphones have 8 microphones in total.
C.The headphones are especially suitable for air travel.
D.The battery life is the best of the headphones.
4.The underlined word “handle” in paragraph 5 probably means ________.
A.take hold of B.keep off C.go through D.deal with
5.The new headphones are worth buying NOT because they ________.
A.are easier to carry B.have excellent sound quality
C.are more comfortable D.are much cheaper
6.The writer’s main purpose is to ________.
A.compare different headphone companies B.introduce the features of new headphones
C.explain how noise cancellation works D.teach readers how to use headphones

A.12 kilometres per hour. B.16 kilometres per hour.
C.25 kilometres per hour. D.55 kilometres per hour.

A.Riding distance B.E-bike total weight C.Battery life D.E-bike control

Rotorua canopy tour (树冠之旅):ziplines (滑索) are just the beginning
Have you ever imagined being a monkey and swinging freely from tree to tree in the forest? Now in Rotorua, New Zealand, our fantastic canopy tour makes your dream come true. This once-in-a-lifetime experience lets you fly across ziplines at speeds of up to 80 km/h. Starting from platforms 18 metres high in the trees, you’ll fly from one tree to the next. Between flights, you’ ll cross swing bridges and special walkways, discovering the beautiful treetop world.
Our ziplines were built in a very special forest in New Zealand. It is one of the country’s last ancient forests that remains untouched. After years of hard work to restore (修复) it, the forest is now alive with local birds. This area is incredibly wild, beautiful, and carefully protected.
Along the way, you may hand feed curious Robins, learn the secrets of the forest and meet the guides. Our guides are like superheroes, who keep you safe, make you laugh and love what they do. We keep our groups small to provide a more personal, safe, and engaging adventure for everyone.
Choose our canopy tour, and you will explore below the surface and high above the trees, learn about the past, and become part of the future. This is a truly unique adventure.

3.How did Professor Lidenbrock send the non-fragile items down?
A.He carried them down carefully. B.He asked Hans to carry them.
C.He threw them down the hole in a bag. D.He left them at the top of the volcano.
4.Which of the following BEST shows how Professor Lidenbrock handled problems?
A.He spent hours studying maps carefully. B.He carefully checked every small detail.
C.He made quick decisions and acted at once. D.He let Hans decide almost everything.

【答案】1.C 2.D 3.C 4.B 5.A 6.B
【导语】本文是一篇应用文。文章通过问答的形式,介绍了宇航员在国际空间站(ISS)的日常生活,包括他们的工作内容、运动量、身体变化以及睡眠情况。
1.细节理解题。根据Q1的回答“They go on space walks, repair things, do experiments and communicate with Earth…Astronauts play games, watch movies and listen to music on it.”可知,宇航员在空间站内玩游戏,而不是“在外面(outside)玩”。选项C“playing games outside”与原文不符。故选C。
2.细节理解题。根据Q2的回答“British astronaut Tim Peake even ran a marathon in space in 2016 and set a Guinness World Record.”可知,创下吉尼斯世界纪录的是Tim Peake。故选D。
3.词句猜测题。根据Q3的回答中“...but their bodies get weak if they don’t do enough exercise. And this can happen in just a few weeks!”可知,“this”指的是前一句提到的身体变虚弱这件事,即“making the body weak”。故选C。
4.细节理解题。根据Q3的回答最后一句“The answer is exercise and not just a little exercise but a lot!”
A“special tools to block sunlight”最贴近其功能。故选A。
6.主旨大意题。通读全文可知,Lily Bailey回答的四个问题分别涉及了宇航员的日常工作、锻炼、身体变化和睡眠,这些都是关于在国际空间站上的生活介绍。故选B。
