The prosecution (控方): James My housemate and best friend spends every waking minute on TikTok. I know she works in social media, but she’s now seriously addicted to it, even after she’s clocked of. Besides, she needs to stop playing videos loudly around the house when I’m watching TV. The defence: Marley My job means I have to be on the ball with what’s trending online. I think James is jealous because he’s got a rather boring job in accounting. I don’t go around playing videos at full volume all the time; I think that’s only happened a handful of times. He’s exaggerating (夸张) there. The jury (陪审团) of Guardian readers While Marley’s use of TikTok may seem excessive to some, ultimately it is up to her how she chooses to use her time. If James can’t accept that, he should move out. Margo, 29 Marley needs to put her phone down, live in the moment and think less about her social media presence. She is guilty of not valuing an honest friend because she thinks a better life awaits her on TikTok. Stewart, 35 As a fellow phone addict, I do have sympathy for Marley. However, it’s more than a little rude to have the sound turned on while watching TV together. Peter, 40 The excessive use of social media is a crime and reflects poor control over social habits. Marley needs to be more considerate of others. Steve, 6 Now you be the-judge In our reader feedback section, tell us: should Marley get off TikTok and get a life? 21. What is Marley’s reason for spending time on TikTok? A. She finds an accounting job dull. B. She enjoys sharing popular videos. C. She needs to stay updated on online trends. D. She prefers avoiding interaction with James. 22. Who is fully on Marley’s side? A. Margo. B. Stewart. C. Peter. D. Steve. 23. Where does the text most probably come from? A. A legal paper. B. A court record. C. A lifestyle survey. D. An interactive column. B Moments before heading to teach a class, I received a call from my sister: My mother was going into emergency surgery and might not make it through the night. Five minutes later, I stepped in front of 68 MBA students to lecture without missing a beat, and even stayed a few minutes after to answer questions. I held strong until I got in the car to drive home. That’s when I fell to pieces. I fought to see the road through my tears as I spoke with my travel agent to book the next flight out. My mother pulled through the surgery. My response to my mother’s crisis was in line with my deep, long-term fear of showing weakness or admitting to feeling overwhelmed. As the youngest daughter from a Vietnamese refugee family, showcasing my strength seemed the best way to honor my parents’ and siblings’ sacrifices that have given me a better life in the United States. I did not want colleagues to question my capabilities or friends and family to see me as anything less than unshakable. The truth was, I desired to pause, to catch my breath, to simply say, “I’m struggling.” I longed to be weak. I wanted to acknowledge my mistakes, to honor a range of emotions, and to ask for help. Cautiously, I began to reveal some of my struggles to my personal and professional circles, watching closely for reactions. Some looked down on my experience. To my great relief, a few listened without judgment and respected my boundaries and coping process. They offered information about counseling services, legal help, support groups, and hotlines. They helped me see that even professionals in leadership positions can need support. To anyone bearing the weight of constant strength, hear this: True strength isn’t about never hesitating. It’s about having the courage to admit when we’re struggling, reaching out for support, and having the strength to piece ourselves back together and move on. 24. What did the author do after hanging up the phone? A. She drove to look after her mother. B. She quickly booked a flight ticket. C. She hesitated to start her teaching. D. She kept calm and stayed on duty. 25. Why did the author showcase her strength? A. To help her mother make a full recovery. B. To give herself an advantage in promotion. C. To avoid being seen as weak or incapable by others. D. To prove that she was more successful than her family. 26. How did some people help the author? A. By persuading her to win leaders’ support. B. By convincing her seeking help is necessary. C. By listening to her and giving judgments. D. By sharing similar experiences with her. 27. What does the author want to convey in the text? A. Strength doesn’t mean hiding struggles. B. Strength gives us more courage to grow. C. Comparing yourself with others is harmful. D. Worldly labels block personal development. C Today, poetry and science are often considered to be mutually exclusive (互相排斥) career paths. But that wasn’t always the case. The mathematician Ada Lovelace and the physicist James Clerk Maxwell were both accomplished poets. The poet John Keats was a licensed surgeon. Combining the two practices fell out of favor in the 1800s. But translating research into lyrics, haiku, and other poetic forms is resurging (再现) among scientists as they look for alternative ways to inspire others with their findings. “Poetry is a great tool for questioning the world,” says Sam Illingworth, a poet and geoscientist who works at the University of Western Australia. Through workshops and a new science-poetry journal, called Consilience, Illingworth is helping scientists to translate their latest results into poems that can attract appreciation from those outside of their immediate scientific field. Stephany Mazon, a scientist from the University of Helsinki in Finland, joined one of Illingworth’s workshops. In the workshop, she was grouped with other scientists and tasked with writing a haiku, a 17-syllable-long poem, which spotlighted water, a fluid that featured in all of the group members’ research projects. “It was a lot of fun, and surprisingly easy to write the poem,” Mazon says. She plans to continue writing. “We do a disservice to ourselves to think that scientists can’t be artistic and that art can’t be used to communicate scientific ideas,” Mazon says. That viewpoint is echoed by Illingworth, who thinks science communication initiatives are too often dominated by public lectures with their hands-off PowerPoint slides. “Actually, when science communication involves writing and sharing poems, it invites a two-way dialogue between experts and nonexperts,” he says. Scientist-poet Manjula Silva, an educator at Imperial College London, agrees. Poetry provides a way to translate complex scientific concepts into a language that everyone can understand, Silva says. Scientists and poets are both trying to understand the world and communicate that understanding with others. The distinction between scientists and poets is less than people might think. We’re all just people with hopefully really interesting things to say and to share. 28. What is the purpose of mentioning the celebrities in paragraph 1? A. To display they were talented. B. To confirm they were out of favor. C. To encourage different career paths. D. To show poetry and science can be combined. 29. What are Illingworth’s workshops aimed to do? A. Promote a new science-poetry journal. B. Inspire outsiders to pursue their careers in science. C. Encourage science communication through poems. D. Get scientists to exchange ideas about the latest research 30. What does the underlined word “disservice” probably mean in Paragraph 3? A. favor B. harm C. kindness D. trouble 31. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Scientists Take on Poetry B. Scientists and Poets Think Alike C. Poetry: A Great Tool to Question the World D. Science Communication: A Two-way Dialogue D The world has changed greatly since Herman Fisher met Irving Price and Helen Schelle in 1930. The trio (三人组) founded Fisher-Price, maker of popular toy series such as Thomas & Friends, Power Wheels, and Little People. Companies like Fisher-Price are exploring how the world of toys and parenting will change with the development of technology. Fisher-Price recently cooperated with Continuum, a global innovation designer. Together, they created a short video called The Future of Parenting, along with a short essay explaining the thoughts behind the video. One thought of the video explores how parenting will change when the teens of today raised with data-providing devices such as Fitbit and iPad begin raising kids of their own. Is this a generation that will desire data in all of their kids’ toys? The answer may be “yes” and perhaps the product appearing in the video will appeal to them. If you interpret the video as a clear vision of the future of parenting, you won’t be blamed for fearing holograms (全息图) will take over your house as a mom or dad. The benefit of holograms in the video is their potential for giving traditional toys the ability to personalize responses, depending on the age and development of the child playing with the traditional toy. Of course, you might ask yourself, “Do data-providing toys have an advantage over traditional toys in terms of their effects?” The answer may be negative. Lego, a traditional brick toy-maker, on all counts remains a successful company. And studies point out its toys’ benefits to children’s creativity. In addition, recent research demonstrates that toys containing data can potentially prevent language development, compared with traditional puzzles and bricks. On the one hand, parents know that they should limit their kids’ screen time to keep them healthy, and the American Academy of Pediatrics offers guidance on daily screen time. On the other hand, technology can be wonderfully engaging and can provide excellent educational opportunities for children. Nothing is perfect and we should embrace every aspect of a new thing. 32. What are companies like Fisher-Price currently exploring? A. The impact of technological advances on toys and parenting. B. The way to be an outstanding global innovation designer. C. New ideas of making short videos of creative toys. D. Techniques used to produce popular toy series. 33. According to the author, teenagers raised with data-providing devices may ___________. A. be fond of devoting themselves to improving technology B. be afraid of the negative impact of electronic toys C. pass their preference for such toys on to their kids D. show great creativity and imagination 34. What’s Paragraph 4 mainly about? A. Advantages and disadvantages of modern technology. B. Comparisons of the effects of two kinds of toys. C. Suggestions on how to choose suitable toys. D. Advances in technology used to make toys. 35. What does the author want to show at the end of the text? A. Love me, love my dog. B. Actions speak louder than words. C. Everything is a two-edged sword. D. Hope for the best; prepare for the worst. I have a drawer full of letters to Santa. Each year my children would write up their Christmas wish lists. They were polite requests for the latest game or toy. As the children got older, they would give Santa some hints(提示)on where to buy their presents. ____36____ Those letters taught my children a valuable lesson about writing: It has a purpose. Sometimes our purpose is to achieve something;other times it may be to entertain, inform, or persuade. ____37____ And when writing doesn’t seem to have any purpose or get any kind of meaningful response, then it can be hard to get excited about doing it. Christmas is a great time of year for children to communicate with others through writing. When children write for real audiences and real purposes, they can learn to choose their words accordingly. ____38____ You write “Dear Santa” because you don’t know him personally and you want to show him respect. ____39____ Texting, online messaging, live chats while playing video games all mean that they are constantly producing written messages. However, because they are usually writing to family and friends, they use informal language most of the time. There is nothing wrong with this kind of writing. It suits the audience and the purpose and gets the job done. ____40____ This type of writing won’t be rewarded by the school examiner, nor by a future employer or a potential client. The very best communicators are those who know how to adjust their language to match their audience. A. It isn’t that these young people can’t write. B. But it is always purposeful-or at least it should be. C. The age of pen-and-paper letter writing may have passed. D. As a result, each year they received something they wanted. E. You write “Hi Nanna and Pop” because you are close to them. F. As technology develops, young people are writing more than they ever have. G. But if this is the only kind of writing young people do, it will cause problems. It was hard to say goodbye to the old oak tree in our backyard. But time took its toll. We watched her ____46____ weaken over the years. The leaves turned yellow earlier each autumn, and some branches dried up and broke off in storms. Even the squirrels, who once stored acorns in her bark, started ____47____. My grandfather sighed, “She’s lived a good life, but it’s getting ____48____to have her so close to the house.” When a heavy branch crashed onto the fence last winter, we knew we had to call in experts to ____49____ her. I couldn’t bear the thought of her ____50____ completely. Friends ____51____ me to carve her wood into keepsakes — wooden flutes, photo frames, or even a small bench. At first, I hesitated, but then I ____52____ their suggestion. Now, instead of looking up at her towering form, I can ____53____ pieces of her in my hands. The photo frame holding my mother’s childhood picture is ____54____ to the touch, carrying the warmth of the sun she once soaked up. A week before Thanksgiving, with a few church members, we wanted to give away holiday meals for families in our community. We contacted neighbors and social workers for families who might be struggling. Their responses were overwhelming: a single mother, Amy, working two jobs to pay medical bills; an elderly couple, Mr and Mrs Jones, whose fixed income couldn’t stretch; the Tomas family, whose house was destroyed by a recent fire… Eventually, we created a list of 10 families in financial need, each to receive a Thanksgiving food basket. These were carefully prepared baskets with all necessities for a big holiday meal: golden stuffing mix, green beans, sweet potatoes, jellied cranberry sauce, flour, butter, onions, and dessert items, and even turkeys and hams… That night, the community hall buzzed with laughter and emotion. As each family arrived to pick up the big basket, their gratitude was evident. Each family talked about their own troubles and at the same time tried to answer others’ problems thoughtfully. In that hall, there was warmth restored. Just as the families were about to leave, a father, mother, and a child with worn but neat clothes stepped in. The father said they had simply heard that a church was giving out food and decided to come. Clearly, they were not on our list. I approached them and explained that we were unable to provide supplies today for an extra family due to limited resources. I felt so sorry as I looked at the family. The man responded with an awkward smile, saying, “Oh, never mind. We just came to see if anything was available. Thank you anyway.” Paragraph 1: Just as the disappointed family were about to leave, I stopped them and asked them to wait a minute. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Seeing the special “basket”, the family were moved to tears. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 成都外国语学校2025-2026学年4月月考 高二英语试题 本试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟。 Where are the speakers? To get things from boats. 19. What happened on Sunday evening off the coast of Southern California? A. A boat was missing. B. A shark got injured. C. A shark attacked a surfer. 20. Which country ranks third in terms of shark encounters in the talk? A. The USA. B. South Africa. C. Australia. B 19. C 20. You must have heard of sea animals’ attacks. Do you know why those killer whales may attack boats off Spain and Portugal? It’s likely that the young killer whales simply play for fun in the high seas. The ocean is a very boring place for an animal, one of the researchers told USA Today. These whales are like teenagers with too much time on their hands. Similar to young people, those killer whales also follow the fashion and want to do what their friends do. In the late 1980s, whales were said to carry dead salmon around on their heads because others were doing it. Whale expert Naomi Rose calls it a sign of intelligence. It’s a very sophisticated thing to do something for no purpose other than that it amuses you. Off the coast of Southern California, a shark aggressively bumped a surfer off his board. It happened on Sunday evening in the waters. The surfer was in panic but was not injured. He made it to the shore and told the lifeguards without delay that he saw a large object coming towards him. The shark encounter happened not only in the USA, but also in other countries. Australia and South Africa come in at number two and three, respectively. A You be the judge: should my phone-addicted friend go on a mobile detox (戒断)? 24. D 25. C 26. It’s about having the courage to admit when we’re struggling, reaching out for support, and having the strength to piece ourselves back together and move on.(真正的坚强不是从不犹豫,而是有勇气承认自己在挣扎,主动寻求支持,并重新振作继续前行。)” 故选A项。 C Today, poetry and science are often considered to be mutually exclusive (互相排斥) career paths. Science Communication: A Two-way Dialogue 【答案】28. D 29. C 30. B 31. 根据第一段中的“But that wasn’t always the case. The mathematician Ada Lovelace and the physicist James Clerk Maxwell were both accomplished poets. The poet John Keats was a licensed surgeon.(但情况并非一直如此。 根据第二段中的“Illingworth is helping scientists to translate their latest results into poems that can attract appreciation from those outside of their immediate scientific field.(伊林沃思正在帮助科学家将他们的最新研究成果转化为诗歌,以吸引其专业领域之外的人们的欣赏。)” 根据第三段中的“We do a disservice to ourselves to think that scientists can’t be artistic and that art can’t be used to communicate scientific ideas (如果认为科学家不能有艺术感,艺术不能用来传播科学思想,那我们就是在对自己做disservice)”可知,持有这种想法对自身是不利的,因此画线词意为“伤害、损害”。 通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“But translating research into lyrics, haiku, and other poetic forms is resurging among scientists as they look for alternative ways to inspire others with their findings.(但将研究转化为抒情诗、俳句和其他诗歌形式的做法正在科学家们中重新兴起,他们希望用其他方式用自己的发现激励他人。)” 故选A项。 D The world has changed greatly since Herman Fisher met Irving Price and Helen Schelle in 1930. A 33. C 34. B 35. 由第一段中“Companies like Fisher-Price are exploring how the world of toys and parenting will change with the development of technology. (像Fisher-Price这样的公司正在探索玩具和育儿的世界将如何随着技术的发展而改变)”和第二段中“One thought of the video explores how parenting will change when the teens of today raised with data-providing devices such as Fitbit and iPad begin raising kids of their own. 故选A项。 由第二段中“Is this a generation that will desire data in all of their kids’ toys? The answer may be “yes” and perhaps the product appearing in the video will appeal to them. 由第四段“Of course, you might ask yourself, “Do data-providing toys have an advantage over traditional toys in terms of their effects?” The answer may be negative. Lego, a traditional brick toy-maker, on all counts remains a successful company. And studies point out its toys’ benefits to children’s creativity. In addition, recent research demonstrates that toys containing data can potentially prevent language development, compared with traditional puzzles and bricks. 由最后一段中“On the other hand, technology can be wonderfully engaging and can provide excellent educational opportunities for children. Nothing is perfect and we should embrace every aspect of a new thing. 36. D 37. B 38. E 39. F 40. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文一: Paragraph 1: Just as the disappointed family were about to leave, I stopped them and asked them to wait a minute. My heart twisting with guilt and a flicker of hope, I turned to the other families, explaining their situation softly and sincerely. Before I finished, hands shot up: Mrs. Jones offered sweet potatoes, Amy gave stuffing mix, and the Tomas family shared half their ham… We quickly packed these into a spare box, filling it with all the donated food to form a holiday meal. Holding this makeshift “basket”, I walked up to the family. Paragraph 2: Seeing the special “basket”, the family were moved to tears. The father stepped forward, eyes shining with gratitude, and gently took it. Noticing the mixed items, the mother realized they were from other struggling families. So, they stepped back into the hall, bowing to thank everyone and exchanging a few words, smiles lighting every face. That night, I grasped the true meaning of Thanksgiving: the warmth of sharing could really bind people together and small kindness helped create deep connections. Paragraph 1: Just as the disappointed family were about to leave, I stopped them and asked them to wait a minute. I turned to the 10 families who had just received their food baskets and explained the situation, hoping they could help. To my delight, every family responded warmly at once—some gave a turkey or ham from their own baskets, others shared sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce or dessert, and even the kids handed over their favorite snacks. Soon, we put together a full, heartwarming “basket”, packed not just with food, but with the whole community’s love and generosity. Paragraph 2: Seeing the special “basket”, the family were moved to tears. The father shook my hand tightly, his voice trembling as he thanked everyone present. The mother hugged each contributing family member, while their child held a warm cookie and smiled brightly at the crowd. The hall brimmed with even more warmth and joy, as we realized Thanksgiving was never about how much we gave, but about sharing with those in need. This unforgettable moment became the true holiday spirit for me. 词汇激活 行为类 ①解释:explain/account for ②包裹:pack/wrap ③理解:grasp/understand 情绪类 ①愧疚:guilt/sorry ②感激:gratitude/thankful 【点睛】[高分句型1] My heart twisting with guilt and a flicker of hope, I turned to the other families, explaining their situation softly and sincerely.(独立主格结构作状语以及现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] Noticing the mixed items, the mother realized they were from other struggling families.(运用了现在分词作时间状语以及省略连接词that的宾语从句作realized的宾语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $成都外国语学校2025至2026学年4月月考高2英语听力部分,该部分分为第一第二两节。 I'm a bit cold.
