As more and more Chinese are paying more attention to health and life quality, traditional Chinese exercises like tai chi and baduanjin are gaining increasing favor even among young people.
Zhang Hua, a university student, used to view tai chi and other traditional Chinese exercises as sports for elderly retirees because the moving was at a slow pace and their activities looked dull. But after surgery in the summer of 2022, Zhang could not participate in vigorous sports and had to earn school credits in tai chi and baduanjin. He has seen their benefits only after practicing regularly. Zhang said, “For students who lack exercise like me, tai chi and baduanjin enable us to work the entire body and activate internal organs. More importantly, such exercises emphasize a relaxed and calm mind that is good for one’s health.”
The World Health Organization recommends a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity a week, or an average of 21 minutes a day. According to a national report, the number of people participating in traditional Chinese exercises last year was up nearly 8 percent. The report also noted that survey participants reported feeling more energetic, finding it easier to focus and remember, and experiencing fewer instances of cold hands and feet.
Chen Yimin, an expert on sports and health, pointed out that traditional Chinese workouts focus on the coordination of the mind and body and matching movement to breathing and concentration. He agreed that such slow-paced workouts are particularly suitable for white-collar workers who suffer from insomnia, middle-aged and elderly people who are physically incapable of engaging in intense workouts.
Zhou Dandan, a 30-year-old white-collar worker, picked up baduanjin about half a year ago by following online tutorials, having been drawn in by its low impact and convenience. She could see the obvious improvement of her health and quality of life.
24. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. A handbook of traditional Chinese exercises.
B. A review of a book about traditional Chinese exercises.
C. A news report about the popularity of traditional Chinese exercises.
D. An essay on the benefits of traditional Chinese exercises for the elderly.
25. Why did Zhang Hua begin to practice tai chi and baduanjin?
A. To improve his grades in sports classes.
B. To compete in sports events on campus.
C. To get enough academic credits after an operation.
D. To popularize traditional Chinese exercises on campus.
26. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. Tai chi and baduanjin are only for the elderly people.
B. The coordination of the mind and body is not that important.
C. Sleep quality can be improved through slow-paced workouts.
D. Concentration can not be achieved through practicing breathing.
27. What is Zhou Dandan’s attitude toward practicing baduanjin?
A. Appreciative. B. Ambiguous. C. Doubtful. D. Cautious.

As cities expand rapidly, large areas of natural green land are replaced by concrete buildings and wide roads. This has led to a sharp drop in urban insect populations over the past decade, breaking the natural balance of the local ecosystem. Many insect species that were once common in cities have now become rare, and some have even been listed as local endangered species. Insects like wild bees and ladybugs play a key role in pollinating flowering plants and controlling harmful pests, and their decline will bring long-term harm to the whole urban environment. Now, a simple eco-friendly solution is gaining popularity around the world: insect hotels.
An insect hotel is a man-made structure made of natural materials, designed to provide refugia for insects to live, breed and spend the cold winter. Unlike common single-function bee boxes, insect hotels are fit for hundreds of different insect species. Different materials are designed for different insects: hollow bamboo sticks are for solitary bees, while pine cones and straw are perfect for ladybugs and other small insects. They are usually made of recyclable things like hollow bamboo sticks, pine cones, dry wood and straw, all easy to find in daily life.
Many cities in Europe and China have built insect hotels in community parks, school yards and office rooftops. A 2025 study in Shanghai found that parks with insect hotels have 3 times more insect species than those without, and the number of local flowering plants has also increased greatly. Some schools even use insect hotels as a science education tool, letting students observe insects and learn about ecological protection.
Experts say insect hotels are a low-cost and highly effective way to improve urban biodiversity. They not only help protect endangered local insect species, but also let people feel closer to nature in busy city life. Even a small insect hotel on your balcony can make a difference to the local environment.
28. What problem does the first paragraph mention?
A. Urban insect populations drop sharply.
B. Concrete buildings are harmful to health.
C. There are too many pests in cities.
D. No green land is left in cities.
29. What does the underlined word “refugia” mean?
A. Food sources. B. Breeding seasons. C. Natural materials. D. Safe shelters.
30. What is the function of the third paragraph?
A. To explain how to build insect hotels.
B. To show the application effect of insect hotels.
C. To put forward a new opinion on ecology.
D. To give a final conclusion of the text.
31. What do experts think of insect hotels?
A. They are only fit for big parks.
B. They cost too much money.
C. They help improve urban ecology.
D. They will replace natural green land.

For years, we told young people the future was theirs if they learned to code. Schools focused more on technical training, while humanities (人文) courses were gradually reduced. As a result, many students were prepared mainly for technical tasks rather than broader learning. Now AI writes the code, studies the data, and answers questions once given to new workers. But the real challenge lies not in the work itself, but in how students are being prepared for it. When AI takes over many entry-level tasks, fewer chances are left for balanced early development.
Rather than a breakdown, this change marks a correction. The jobs that remain need qualities that AI cannot fully provide, including judgment, empathy, ways of thinking. Machines can process information, but humans still decide what matters. Experience was once earned through doing real tasks or understanding how others feel in a situation. But if AI takes over tasks that once shaped these human qualities, they must be developed through intentional education. That means education should focus on helping students think more deeply and make thoughtful judgments.
While automation accelerates, the humanities shrink. In the U.S., the share of humanities degrees has fallen from 17 percent in the 1960s to under 9 percent today. Once seen as progress, this change now looks shortsighted. Caring about others, explaining ideas clearly, understanding different cultures, and solving problems in creative ways have become especially important at work. These abilities are formed in literature, history, sociology, and philosophy.
In a world where AI can answer almost anything, the real value lies in knowing what to ask, how to frame it, and why it matters. To prepare for a world where machines can do many tasks but not the deeper thinking, we must build a strong base again — one that encourages long-term thinking rather than short-term efficiency. Humanities should return to the center of education, not as a return to the past, but as a necessary balance in the age of AI. We optimized a generation for technical efficiency, and efficiency became ordinary. Now we must cultivate what cannot be automated: those that make us human.
32. What is the author mainly concerned about in the first paragraph?
A. Universities adjusting their teaching programs.
B. Young people having no access to digital tools.
C. Students’ preparation becoming more one-sided.
D. Entry-level work remaining unchanged for years.
33. What do the remaining jobs require?
A. Long working hours. B. Physical strength and speed.
C. Human emotions and thoughts. D. Basic computer technologies.
34. What should education help people learn to do?
A. Use more advanced AI-assisted tools.
B. Look at the long run and think more deeply.
C. Rebuild their memories of knowledge.
D. Know how to ask AI to handle everything.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Why Humanities Still Matter in the Age of AI
B. Is AI a Big Threat to Our Traditional Education?
C. How Technology Will Replace Entry-Level Jobs
D. The Decline of Philosophy in Modern Universities

For anyone looking for tips on how to improve running technique, it’s important to understand the proper running technique.
· 36
Shoes are the most important gear you’ll need for running. Get fitted at a sports shoe store and if you’re serious about running, you’ll definitely want to invest in high-quality running shoes. You’ll also want proper socks — not those trendy ankle socks that fall down and won’t offer any extra support.
·Always warm up and cool down.
Make sure you warm up before you run. This means performing some dynamic stretches like squats, star jumps, or walking lunges. 37 . After a run, you’ll want to cool down by doing some static stretches like forward-folds, low lunge stretches and calf stretches.
·Alternate between walking and running
At the start, it’s going to feel incredibly difficult to run for an extended period of time without being completely puffed. Most beginners won’t be able to run for more than a minute at a time. But don’t let that discourage you. Start by alternating between one minute of walking and one minute of running. Then, you can gradually adjust the intervals to run more than you walk. 38 .
·Avoid dropping your shoulders.
39 . It not only helps prevent injuries but also conserves energy. Your body is built to balance itself so long as you have good posture. So, while it’s tempting to look down at your feet while you run, keep your eyes forward and maintain an upright posture.
·Keep arms, hands, neck, and shoulders relaxed.
Clenched hands (紧握拳头) can cause tension all the way up through your arms and into your shoulders and neck. 40 . Drop your arms and shake your hands every 100 metres or so until you get used to staying relaxed during your run.
A Start with proper equipment.
B. And soon, you’ll be able to run without stopping.
C. Deep and rhythmic breathing will maximize oxygen intake.
D. Running reduces the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.
E. This will help gently activate the muscles you’ll use during your run.
F. Tension forces the heart to overwork, burning extra energy while running.
G. Correct body positioning plays a crucial role in learning effective running technique.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eric had always been a curious boy, full of questions about life. But as he grew older, the voices around him, “Questions don’t help you earn a living”, slowly silenced his wonder. The only shadow heavier than his unspoken curiosity was the distance between him and his younger brother Tom.
Years ago, in a moment of anger, Eric had broken their grandfather’s treasured wooden compass — a family gift given to Tom on his sixteenth birthday. The compass was carved with moon shapes, and their grandfather had told them, “True direction is found where hearts meet.” But after their fight, Tom had left, and the brothers had not spoken since.
For over ten years, he worked as a library worker, sweeping floors among silent books, his own spirit gathering dust like the shelves he cared for. One rainy Wednesday, Eric found a well-worn wool scarf folded neatly in the corner while cleaning shelves. It belonged to Ms. Davies, a retired teacher who visited weekly. When she hurried back, eyes wet, she said softly, “This was my late husband’s last gift. We’d fought, and he gave it to apologize before he passed away. Don’t wait till it’s too late to make amends (弥补), dear.” Eric watched her hold the scarf tight. For the first time, he thought of the compass at home, and wondered if he could fix his bond with Tom.
Then, behind an old heater, he found it, a wooden compass, its back damaged but still glowing slightly. The letters T. E. were carved into the wood. Memories rushed back — his grandfather’s words, Tom’s hurt face, the weight of regret he had carried all these years.
Rain hit the window. Eric held the compass tight. That moment, he decided to find Tom — he had to fix their bond before it was too late.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Eric stood before Tom’s house, the compass heavy in his pocket.
