1.句意:然而,对于余子迪来说,生活几乎都围绕着泳池。
根据下文,主要围绕游泳比赛展开,pool“泳池”符合语境。library“图书馆”以及park“公园”与游泳无关。

二、阅读理解
(25-26九年级下·湖南长沙·月考)In the busy streets of Jingdezhen, a small food stall (摊位) has become a “must-visit” place for both locals and travelers. The owner, Li Junyong, is famous not just for his delicious fried chicken, but for a special, unchangeable rule.
Every afternoon at 4:30, when the nearby school bell rings, he stops serving adults and only sells to students.
Many people think this is unnecessary and wonder why he would turn away customers during peak (高峰) hours. “Why turn away customers with money?” they ask. But for Mr. Li, this is a matter of principle. Years ago, he made a promise to himself: students should always have a warm, cheap snack after a long day of study. He clearly remembers his own childhood when he was often hungry after school but couldn’t afford much to eat. “I want them to feel cared for,” he says with a kind smile.
Even when long lines of tourists wait for hours, he never breaks his rule. Some tourists get angry, but most are moved by his kindness. Mr. Li’s story spread quickly on the Internet, and people started calling him “Chicken Cutlet (鸡排) Brother”. He doesn’t care about becoming a star; he just wants to keep his stall clean and his heart honest. Through his small stall, he shows us that true success isn’t just about how much money you make, but about staying true to yourself. In a fast-changing world, his simple persistence (坚持) is like a warm light for everyone who passes by.

(25-26九年级下·湖南衡阳·月考)Shi Guangyin is a farmer in Dingbian, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. Dingbian lies on the side of the Maowusu Desert. In the past, sandstorms often destroyed houses and crops. Many local people had to leave their hometown.
In the 1970s, when the government called on people to green the desert, Shi decided to plant trees. To raise money to buy young trees, he sold nearly all the things in his home. He also encouraged many people to plant trees for a greener future. However, it wasn’t an easy thing. Only one tenth of the young trees that they had planted were alive at first. Some people felt disappointed and lost heart. But Shi said he would never give up.
The following years, Shi made several trips to ask for suggestions of experts in other places. He also led the villagers to try new ways to take care of the young trees. Finally, his hard work paid off. More than 80% of trees grew well. The yellow desert began changing into green forests. They’ve finally built a “Green Great Wall” of over 50 kilometers in the desert. People always kindly call Shi “Uncle in the Desert”. Now, the forest coverage in Dingbian has risen from 3.8% in 1980 to 33.5% today.

Nong Jiagui is a village teacher who works in Guangnan County, Yunnan Province. He has helped more than 100 rural students learn about the outside world.
The village used to be a treatment center for leprosy (麻风病) patients and their families. When the 20-year-old first came to the “leprosy village”, he was welcomed by the locals. However, the only thing he wanted to do was to leave the village at once. But when he saw the disappointed faces of the villagers, he decided to stay.
In 1986, Nong became the first teacher in the village. After he came, all the school-age children came to his primary school. During the first class, many parents stood far away after sending their children to school, which moved Nong deeply. He was very thankful for their kindness.
Nong named the village “Luosongdi”, which means “peanut (花生)” in the local language, because many villagers there could plant it. “My students will leave the village and go to new schools in the future. I hope that nobody will connect the village with leprosy when they write down their family addresses,” Nong said. Until now, Nong has worked in the village for 38 years. The village has become more open to the outside world. Chances are always left for those who are prepared. Chen Yujie’s story deeply touches me. She showed talent in running and kept practicing hard, which helped her seize the chance to shine on the world stage.
I believe in myself and never hesitate to try new things. When facing challenges, I stay positive and make detailed plans to achieve my goals. To be skillful, I spend extra time practicing English speaking every day. Even when I fail, I keep fighting on and never give up.
Opportunities don’t come by accident. Only when we are fully prepared can we catch them. Let’s follow Chen’s example, keep improving ourselves, and wait for the moment when chance meets preparation.

16-Year-Old Runner Chen Yujie Shines
On May 11, 2025, 16-year-old Chen Yujie became famous in Guangzhou. She ran the first part of the women’s 4×100m relay (接力) at the World Athletics Relays. With her help, China won their group in 43.03 seconds and got a place in next year’s World Championships (锦标赛). People call her “Little Sister” because she is young but has great achievements.
Chen’s parents were both runners. As a kid, she tried tennis and taekwondo (跆拳道). But at 11, she showed her talent in a school race. Her speed surprised her teacher, who advised her to try track (径赛). As balancing study and training was hard, she studied at Ningbo No.7 Middle School during the day and trained at a sports school in the evening. Even when she hurt her leg during practice, she kept doing arm exercises. Her teacher said, “She always pushes herself to do more.”
Her hard work soon brought success. At 14, she broke records at the 2023 U15World School Games in Brazil. She won the 100m (11.56 seconds) and 200m (24.59seconds). In 2024, she beat her hero Ge Manqi——an Asian Games champion——at the National Championships. She ran 100m in 11.29 seconds, her best time ever. Ge said, “We’re keeping a spot (位置) for her in the national team.” On May 31st this year, Chen set a new Asian U18 record in the 200m with a time of 22.97 seconds. Up to now, she has kept Asian U18 records in 60m, 100m and 200m.
Today, Chen is more than a runner. She shows that success needs both talent and effort. As she gets ready for the 2028 Olympics, we believe that great things can happen when courage meets chance——no matter how young you are.
