One day, Xu Yitang went to an aquarium (水族馆) in Beijing with friends. At that time, he had no idea that this trip would make a difference in his life.
Xu saw some coral in the aquarium. He was greatly shocked by the natural beauty of the coral. It looked like colorful underwater flowers, bright and lively. Some were red, some were yellow, and some were purple. They grew together in amazing shapes. He stood quietly there and watched them for a long time. After that day, he became interested in the natural wonder. He started visiting experienced people to learn how to grow coral. He also learned online. Later, he started to grow coral at home.
Xu was a college student then. He studied Peking Opera (京剧). He thought he would probably take on a job about Peking Opera after finishing college. But as he learned more about coral, he slowly changed his mind about his future. He realized that coral reefs were very important to the ocean, but many of them were dying. He felt it was his duty to do something to protect them. His interest in coral grew stronger than his interest in Peking Opera. After finishing college, he took a job protecting the coral in Hainan.
Each day, Xu spends hours staying in the sea water to study the beautiful coral. Sometimes, he has to work late at night in the sea. It is very difficult and dangerous. Although his work is hard, he enjoys it. When he is free, he likes to share beautiful coral photos and videos online. He wants more people to take action to protect the coral and the sea.

前文提到“With a small step, people can reach the top of the mountain”,这里是在描述登山的行为。
前句说“not the most famous”,后句说“the only mountain”,前后句意存在转折关系,应用but。so“所以”、because“因为”、or“或者”逻辑不通。
stop sb. from doing sth.
根据后文“people saw it as the smallest mountain”,说明当时没有挖到底部,无法推翻它是山的说法。

He is beginning to talk to his parents and that makes them happy again. He no longer stays in his room by ___24___ (he). Instead, he goes to the movies and plays sports with his friends. He is feeling much ___25___ (good) than before.
11. unhappy
12. friends
13. to feel
14. with 15. away
16. hit 17. in
18. anybody
19. was 20. Though##Although
21. useless
22. misses 23. death
24. himself

根据前一句“No one can be happy all the time.”(没人能一直开心),可知此处表示 “不开心”,需将happy变为反义词unhappy。

The girl discovered a pan in the kitchen had caught fire, then she quickly ran to the living room and called the emergency helpline.

“Please hold on. Now I can’t open the door. My grandma locked it, and I don’t know how to open it,” the girl replied.
Feeling helpless, the girl started crying, but quickly she kept calm and gave the operator her home location.

“Together with my sister, we were standing next to a window for some fresh air,” the girl said.
