Passage 2
A credit card is like a “short-term loan (贷款)” from a bank. When you buy something, the bank pays the store on your behalf (代表你) first. Then you should repay (偿还) the bank before a set date, usually once a month. If you do that, you don’t have to pay any extra fees (额外费用).
But credit cards have risks (风险). If you forget to repay on time, the bank will ask you to pay extra money called “interest”. This can make the money you owe (欠) grow quickly. What’s worse, it’ll affect (影响) your credit record. For example, you may find it difficult to borrow money or apply for a credit card in the future. Even when you try to get a loan to buy a house or a car, it could be much harder because your bad credit record shows you might not repay on time. Also, it’s easy to overspend with a credit card because you don’t see cash leaving your hands.
Another risk is that if you lose your card, someone else could use it. You might have to pay the bill if you don’t report the loss immediately.
Credit cards are convenient, but you need to use them carefully—only buy what you really want, and always pay your bill in full and on time.

At an early age, we start learning how to manage money by watching our parents’ spending habits. Don’t worry if we haven’t learned well how to save or spend money. The following life lessons about money can help us form good spending habits.
Money doesn’t grow on trees. As kids, we don’t often think about where money comes from. We need to know that our parents work hard to make money, and that it may be used up one day. Going to their workplaces to watch how they work is a great way to understand money is not that easy to make.
We shouldn’t spend all our money in one go. It’s important for us to have a budget. In other words, we need to think about how much money we have and what we really want to spend it on. Realizing that our pocket money can’t cover everything we want, we should make smart spending choices.
We should set a clear goal and watch our money grow. If we wish to own a new bicycle but can’t afford it, we can save our pocket money. How? Write down how much money we have in a notebook and watch it grow. After we have enough, we can buy that wonderful bicycle we’ve dreamed about!

Passage 1
①Do you know about pets’ feelings? When is your dog happy? A new app called Happy Pets can tell you the answer.
②The app can analyse (分析) the faces of cats and dogs. Then it can tell you what kind your pet is and how it is feeling. It can show you some feelings—happiness, anger, sadness and fear.
③Scientists in Australia made the app. The key to the app is facial recognition (人脸识别), a common use of AI. We can unlock our mobile phones with it. But this is the first time this technology has been applied to animals.
④How does the app work? First, it analyses a picture of an animal. Then, it analyses the face of your pet. Is it a dog or a cat? Next comes the most important thing—finding out the feeling of the animal. For example, if a dog shouts at you with its wagging (来回摇摆的) tail, it means the dog is happy enough and it loves you. If a dog closes its eyes and mouth while moving its ears back, this means the dog is afraid. When a dog is quiet and lies on the ground, it may feel sick or unhappy. To get this skill, the app “saw” and “read” a lot of example pictures before.
⑤Can the app tell us the feeling of pets exactly? The scientists are sure about it. They also find that cats are more difficult to read than dogs. In the future maybe the app will analyse different sounds pets make.

Tetris (俄罗斯方块) is one of the most popular video games of all time. Do you know who invented it? A computer engineer named Alexey Pajitnov created it in 1984. He drew inspiration (灵感) from his favourite board game pentominoes (五连方块) and he invented the game just for fun.
The game became popular almost as soon as it hit the market. The Tetris Company was set up in 1996. As a basic computer game, Tetris spread (传播) quickly. It was one of the most often played games on Nintendo Game Boy (任天堂掌上游戏机).
Tetris was also the first video game played in space. In 1993, Aleksandr Serebrov played the game on his Game Boy while he was in space. After that, it became one of the most popular games among kids and adults.
Tetris may be quite fun. (a) In a study, kids played Tetris for about 30 minutes daily over three months. (b) The game is also useful to help treat PTSD patients (创伤后应激障碍患者). (c) This led to growth in parts of their brains (大脑). (d) But it also has an positive influence on the brain.
However, some people have a difficult time putting the game down. They spend so much time playing Tetris that they see tetrominoes falling in their dreams. Some even start to see things that are not really there. This is called the “Tetris Effect”. Since playing it has certain side effects (副作用), just make sure you play only when your parents know it!

Passage 3
①Technology makes our lives easier. But do you know how it helps save lives faster in first aid? People who have sudden health emergencies (突发卫生事件) like heart disease or accidents may only have a few minutes to live unless they get help. We can use technology to offer help in time. Let’s look at some technological inventions that are helping save lives.
②Smart apps
Some people in the US made an app called Pulse Point. It invites common people trained in CPR (心肺复苏术) to use it. The app knows the users’ locations. If someone needs first aid nearby, a user will get a message asking them to help.
③Magic gel (凝胶)
The gel, which is made from plants, can stop someone bleeding in just 10 seconds. It sticks to a wound and helps cover it. The gel was invented more than 10 years ago but was only allowed to be used on animals. Now in the US, it has been allowed to be used on humans too. It’s amazing that such a useful thing was invented by an American boy aged 17!
④Flying aids
If people get injured and need help in hard-to-reach areas, drones (无人机) can be of great use. Drones can often offer help faster than people because they can fly. And they can also make helping people safer for rescuers (营救者) working in dangerous conditions. With cameras inside, the drones can watch people’s health easily. They can also carry useful things, like a jacket to save someone from drowning (溺水).

Passage 4
Germs are tiny living things that can make people sick. They are everywhere—in the air, on our hands, and on things we touch every day. Food goes bad when germs and bacteria start to grow in it.
In the 1860s, a French scientist named Louis Pasteur found a way to stop bad germs from growing in food. At that time, many wine makers in France had a problem. Their wine often turned sour and they didn’t know why. The French government asked Pasteur to find the reason. While studying the wine, he noticed something strange. Some bottles went bad quickly, while others stayed fresh for longer. This made him very curious. He believed that tiny germs in the air might be the cause. To test his idea, he heated the wine until it was very hot and then cooled it quickly. To his surprise, the wine stayed fresh much longer. That was how he discovered the process later called pasteurisation.
The heat killed the harmful bacteria, which made food last longer. This method helped people keep foods like milk, meat and vegetables safe for more time. Later, food was also kept in tins. The tins were heated to kill bacteria and then closed tightly so no new germs could get in. This made it possible to store food for many months or even years.
Pasteur also worked on another problem—a dangerous disease called rabies. He experimented with rabbits that had the virus. He carefully took infected tissue from the rabbits and dried it in clean air for a few days. This process made the virus weaker and less harmful. In 1885, he tested his new vaccine on a nine-year-old boy, who had been bitten by a dog with rabies. The boy received the vaccine and never got sick. News of this success spread quickly across France, and many people who had been bitten came to Pasteur for help. Pasteur’s discoveries saved many lives.
1.What problem did many wine makers in France have in the 1860s?
A.Their wine bottles broke easily. B.Their wine often lost its good taste.
C.Their wine could not be sold abroad. D.Their wine was too expensive.
2.In pasteurisation, why do we heat food?
A.To kill the harmful bacteria. B.To make the food taste better.
C.To add vitamins to the food. D.To keep new germs out.
3.What product benefited from Pasteur’s discovery to stay safe for longer?
A.Clean water. B.Fresh fruit. C.Bread and cakes. D.Tinned food.
4.What did Pasteur do to make the rabies virus weaker?
A.He kept the virus in cold temperatures.
B.He washed the rabbits with special liquids.
C.He took the virus from rabbits and let it dry.
D.He heated the virus until it disappeared.
5.What was the result of Pasteur’s vaccine against rabies?
A.It stopped people from getting the disease.
B.It cured people who already had rabies.
C.It helped sick animals recover faster.
D.It made food safer for people to eat.

Passage 2
As one of the most celebrated landscape paintings in Chinese art history, A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains holds great cultural value for centuries. Created during the Northern Song Dynasty, this masterpiece was the work of Wang Ximeng, a talented young artist.
The painting is a long scroll (卷轴). It is over 11 meters long and 51.5 centimeters tall. Scrolls are a traditional Chinese art form. What makes this painting special is the colors Wang used. He took natural materials from rocks and mixed them with animal glue (胶水). These colors are so good that they still look bright after almost 900 years, even though the painting is easy to break.
In the painting, you can see the beauty from southern China. There are many mountains with sharp tops. Long rivers connect small villages, wooden bridges and fishing boats. You can also find people—some are farming, some are on boats, some are walking. They show how people lived happily with nature back then. This mix of natural beauty and daily life expresses the ancient Chinese idea of “unity (统一) between man and nature”. This means humans and nature are one and should help each other.
Today, this painting is kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing. Museum workers keep it in a box in good temperature and humidity—too hot, too cold, or too wet would damage the old silk and colors. I think, because it is easy to break, the museum only shows it sometimes, but it still influences many modern artworks.

The French artist Georges Seurat created many paintings in his short lifetime. A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte is one of people’s favorites. People are attracted by his painting for three reasons.
Seurat created this painting in a new style called pointillism (点彩画法), which uses small dots (点) of paint. By putting two colors next to each other, people could see a third color.
This painting is full of details about French life in the 1880s. There are several women wearing nice clothes and carrying parasols (阳伞). One woman is even walking a monkey. Others are enjoying themselves in dancing and singing. Many of the men are dressed up with jackets and hats. And people can see dogs running around and children playing. There are boats on the water. It looks like a perfect summer day.
This painting makes me feel very calm. Even though a park like this could be a noisy place, Seurat makes it feel peaceful. He paints people sitting quietly in the shade (阴凉处). There is a girl smelling flowers. She looks so beautiful. Throughout the painting, people are relaxing on the cool, green grass and enjoying a beautiful day.
Seurat spent two years finishing this beautiful painting. People are thankful that he completed it. It is a very peculiar painting because of Seurat’s use of pointillism, his attention to details and the peaceful feeling he created. In a word, there are so many people who like this painting.

【答案】1.D 2.C 3.A 4.B 5.C
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了信用卡的运作方式、使用时存在的风险,以及正确使用信用卡的建议。
1.第一段提到“Then you should repay the bank before a set date, usually once a month. If you do that, you don’t have to pay any extra fees”,这里的“that”指代前一句的“在规定日期前向银行还款”,与选项D一致。
2.第二段提到“it’ll affect your credit record”可知,忘记按时还款会影响信用记录,选项C“按时还款会影响信用记录”与原文表述相反,因此它不是信用卡的风险。
3.原文中“apply for a credit card”的“apply”意为“申请”,选项A“He has applied to join the army”中的“apply”也表示“申请”。而选项B中的“apply”意为“涂抹”,选项C中的意为“应用”,选项D中的意为“全力以赴”,都不符合题意。
4.第二段提到“If you forget to repay on time, the bank will ask you to pay extra money called ‘interest’. This can make the money you owe grow quickly.”可知忘记按时还款会产生利息,欠款会快速增长,所以小明未按时还款则需要偿还更多钱,与选项B一致。
5.最后一段提到“only buy what you really want, and always pay your bill in full and on time”可知,作者对信用卡的观点是只买自己需要的东西,并且全额按时还款,与选项C一致。

1.How old may Wang Ximeng be, when he created A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains?
A.8 B.18 C.48 D.58
2.Why is the masterpiece so special?
A.Wang drew many layers of mountains with sharp tops.
B.Wang painted the beautiful views from southern China
C.Wang used natural materials mixed with animal glues.
D.Wang showed how people lived happily with nature.
3.What does the underlined word in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.The museum. B.The idea. C.The painting. D.The unity.
4.Why is the painting only shown sometimes?
A.It is too big to be shown often. B.It is very easy to be broken.
C.It is too special to be enjoyed. D.It is very popular with the public.
5.Which is the best title of the passage?
A.Wang Ximeng: a Talented Artist. B.A Masterpiece: Unity of Nature and Humans.
