Family rules should fit children’s ages and they can also change according to children’s situations. Don’t make vague (模糊的) rules, such as “be good”. “Be good” includes many different things and may be hard to understand.
Step 2: Explain the rules.
Make sure children know and understand the rules. What’s more, children need to be reminded of the rules from time to time. Parents can also put up some simple pictures or notices everywhere at home.
Step 3: Follow the rules.
All family members should follow the family rules. Young children learn from their parents, just like people often say that parents are the first teachers of their children. For example, if parents are respectful (尊重人的) and listen to others patiently, their children will follow them.
Step 4: Know the consequences (后果) for not following the rules.
All members should know the results of breaking the rules. When someone breaks the rules, all members should give quick responses (回应) and the punishment should also be done at once.

Passage 1
Teenagers are gaining weight A recent study shows 97% of teens hardly ever take exercise. It’s bad news because too little exercise can cause some problems and doing little exercise means missing a lot of good things in life. Exercise helps us in two ways.
First, exercise can make your body strong and also keep you at a healthy weight. Doctors say that people who stay at a healthy weight have fewer health problems.
Second, exercise can help your mind. People who usually exercise might worry less and sleep better at night. You may even learn better in school.
So from now on you’d better change your lifestyle and be more active at any point. It’s never too late. An article called “How to Get Moving” gives these ideas:
Start slowly. If you think exercising an hour a day seems a little long for you, you can start with 10 minutes of new activities every day. Then add more as you get stronger. Think about walking. Take the stairs (楼梯) instead of the lift (电梯). You will be healthier.
Exercise with others. Find a friend or family member to exercise or play with you. You don’t need to exercise alone. You will have more fun.

Family rules help keep the family in order. They show the behaviours that parents expect from their children. So how can we create family rules?
Step 1: Make the family rules.
Know what family rules need to be made. Give children a chance to learn how family rules work by starting with one rule before others are added.

You are supposed to control yourself. Learning something about phone manners (礼仪) is very important. Here are a few rules:
③Follow the rules! When you’re in public places and see a sign that says “Turn off phones”, don’t use your phone. If you really have to, speak softly for a short time and try to keep away from other people.
④Phone off! Never make calls in a theatre when you are watching a movie or enjoying a concert.
⑤Pay attention! Talking on the phone while driving is dangerous. And watch where you’re going when you’re walking down the streets and talking on the phone. 1.
2.文章第二段提到“But be careful not to be noisy phone users and disturb others.”,结合上下文可知,此处“disturb”意为“打扰、使烦恼”,与“trouble”意思相近。
3.文章第三段提到“If you really have to, speak softly for a short time and try to keep away from other people.”,说明在公共场合讲电话时应尽量简短并低声细语,避免长时间通话,因此“Make long talks”是不应该做的。

Passage 6
It was Day 1 of our vacation on Cortes, a beautiful quiet island. “iPhone, iPhone, iPhone,” my son kept moaning (呻吟). In front of him was a big window facing the blue ocean. And a cool gentle wind was coming in from the door. Clearly, he saw and felt none of it.
Back at home, I’d soon give up and hand the phone over to him after five minutes of listening to this kind of moaning.
But not here. Before we left, I had told my 10-year-old son the rule—no emails, no Facebook, no video games, and no iPhone. We came here to get away from them all. Here we were on our first day and already, he couldn’t stand it.
____▲____. I walked down the grass road to the beach and looked out to the sea. My 6-year-old daughter and my husband were drawing on pieces of wood. They were doing just fine.
On Day 2, we spent the whole morning digging for shells (贝壳). This time, my son joined us. He collected shellfish and other sea treasures. When we got back to our little wooden house, I gave my son a book and put him on the lovely garden chair. It was almost dinner when he looked up.
The next few days passed in peace.
On Day 6, my son was lying beside me on the beach, watching the sun going down. He was playing with the sand. And there was something shining in his eyes. I realized how time slowed down for both of us. It was exactly what I wanted. Finally, we were able to sit quietly without thinking about screens, phone calls and emails.
A week away from all the electronics and life is good.
1.What was the special rule for the writer’s vacation?
A.They couldn’t use phones or emails.
B.They must keep quiet and stay in the house.
C.They had to spend their vacation on an island.
D.They should collect as many shells as possible.
2.Which of the following can be put in “____▲____” in Paragraph 4?
A.I felt really tired and went to bed. B.I closed the door and stayed with him.
C.I just walked outside to leave him alone. D.I gave him the iPhone and let him stay inside.
3.The change of the son’s feelings can be described as ________.
A.angry→surprised→proud B.excited→peaceful→bored
C.worried→angry→hopeful D.bored→peaceful→glad
4.Which is the best title for this passage?

C.A fight between mother and son. D.A special iPhone for my son.
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.D 4.B
1.第三段指出作者在度假前告诉儿子规则:“no emails, no Facebook, no video games, and no iPhone”,这与选项A“They couldn’t use phones or emails.”相符。
2.第三段的“Before we left, I had told my 10-year-old son the rule…he couldn’t stand it.”指出儿子因不能使用iPhone而难以忍受,空格后“I walked down the grass road to the beach…” C“I just walked outside to leave him alone.”(我只是走出去,让他一个人待着)能衔接前后文。
3.文中“my son kept moaning”“The next few days passed in peace.”和“He was playing with the sand. And there was something shining in his eyes.”
4.全文围绕度假期间远离电子产品(no emails, no Facebook, no video games, and no iPhone)这一核心规则展开,并描述了由此带来的积极变化(time slowed down, life is good)。 B“A vacation away from electronics”(远离电子产品的假期)最能概括文章主旨。
