We should have at least one fire extinguisher in our house or office building. However, it's not enough to simply keep an extinguisher. The best way to solve a sudden fire is to study this guide carefully and always review it.
1 Have a clear exit route(路线) Before using the fire extinguisher, make sure you have a clear exit route. If you can't put out the fire, you will need to make a safe exit. And make sure everyone is out.
2 Report the fire Although it seems to be easy to put out the fire, you should always have the firemen on the way. They can double-check to see if the fire has been completely put out.
3Use the extinguisher It can be difficult to think clearly during a fire. One way to help you remember how to use an extinguisher is to remember the four steps of the“PASS” process.
★ P—— Pull: Pull the pin(保险销).
★ A——— Aim(瞄准): Aim at the bottom of the fire.
★ S——— Squeeze(挤压): Squeeze the handle(手柄).
★ S——— Sweep: Sweep the nozzle(喷嘴) from side to side.
4 ▲ After the fire seems to be out, continue to watch the fire area to make sure it doesn't begin burning again. If the fire starts up again, repeat the“PASS” process.
5 Get to a safe place Once the fire is out, or if you are unable to put it out, find a place out of reach of the fire.

When it comes to warm-weather activities that are good for your health, you probably think of walking, hiking or running. But there's another activity —— gardening.
A busy day in the garden can be a good form of exercise. It is helpful for your physical health. People breathe deeper when they are outside. As people breathe deeper, the oxygen (氧气) level in their blood slowly increases, making them feel refreshed.
Spending time outdoors has been shown to help lift spirits and lower levels of stress (压力). After a working day in the hospital, I would spend an hour or so in my garden. I find that pulling weeds (杂草) can let me feel calm after a long day. It provides me with the chance to slow down, plan or work out a problem in my mind.
Gardening can also bring people together and make social connections stronger. The gardening community is rich with people willing to share their knowledge, time and sometimes plants with new gardeners. Many gardening friendships begin with celebrating a success or regretting a gardening mistake. The friendships that I' ve made have been the best gift that gardening has given me. During the spring, my friends and neighbors plan our vegetable gardens together. We discuss what works well or needs to be improved from last year. In summer, we share flowers with each other. In the fall, we host a big party to enjoy fruit and vegetables together. These activities improve the joy we get out of the garden and bring us closer together.

( )34. What is the text mainly talking about?
A. The steps of gardening.
B. The kindness of gardeners.

D. The close connections of gardeners.

Volunteering makes a difference
Last summer, I joined a volunteer program in my community. The program was to help elderly people who live alone. I was a little nervous at first because I didn't know what to do. However, the experience turned out to be wonderful.
I visited Mrs. Li, an 80-year-old woman. She lived by herself and her children lived in another city. Every Saturday, I went to her house and helped her do housework. I swept the floor, folded her clothes, and sometimes cooked simple meals for her. We also talked a lot. She told me many interesting stories about her life.
Through this experience, I learned that volunteering is not just about helping others. It's also about learning from others. Mrs. Li taught me how to be patient and kind. She also taught me to cherish the time with my family.
Volunteering made me feel happy and satisfied. It gave me a sense of purpose. I realized that even small actions can make a big difference in someone's life. I will continue to volunteer and help more people in the future.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成表格中所缺信息。每空限填一词。
Many people enjoy running in their free time. Running is a good exercise, but some people seldom run. They often say, “Running hurts the knees.” They believe running will cause arthritis (关节炎), making it hard for them to walk when they get old. But is that true?
Well, the truth is that running isn’t bad for your knees if you do it in the right way. In fact, it can keep your knees strong and healthy. A study shows that runners have fewer knee problems than walkers. Why? Running helps build up the muscles and cartilage (肌肉和软骨) around your knee joints (关节). Walking is easier on the knees, but it can’t exercise the muscles and joints as well as running.
Another study on marathon (马拉松) runners found that after the race, their knee cartilage became stronger. They had a smaller chance of developing arthritis than those who never ran at all.
In fact, running itself isn’t bad for our knees. However, the wrong ways can cause problems. First, run with bad form. Taking too big steps or letting your knees bend inward (向内弯曲) are both bad for your knees. Second, overuse the knees. Running too long or too fast each time can cause knee problems. Third, run on hard ground.
But don’t worry. To protect your knees while running, you just need to train in a smart way. Small changes to our running habits can make a big difference.
