He believed learning about the past would help us know the future. He emphasized that education helped build our confidence which would help bring peace and prosperity. He also thought it was important to use and apply what we have learned in our education. Discussion (1) Think about a historic site in your hometown ,and give an introduction to its history and importance. The Great Wall of China (Badaling Section) History: Built during the Ming Dynasty (around 1505) to protect China from invaders. It's one of the most famous sections near Beijing. Importance: It was a military defense system and is now a symbol of Chinese culture and history. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the wonders of the world. My feeling: Walking on it was amazing—the view was beautiful, and I felt how old and powerful the history is. Discussion(2) Qin Great Wall in Bayannur — The Most Authentic Qin Great Wall in China History: Built in 214 B.C. by General Meng Tian of the Qin Dynasty, after leading 300,000 troops to defeat the Xiongnu in the north. It was renovated and reused during the Han Dynasty, hence also called the Qin-Han Great Wall.Stretches across Urad Front Banner, Urad Middle Banner, Urad Rear Banner, and Dengkou County in Bayannur, with a total length of about 255 kilometers. Importance: The Qin Great Wall in Bayannur is a core and essential section of the Ten-Thousand-Li Great Wall. Built along the northern foot of the Yinshan Mountains, it is magnificent, well-preserved, and known as “the most authentic Qin Great Wall in China”. Historical Value: - Military Value: A physical testimony to the northern defense system of the Qin Empire, embodying the ancient military wisdom of “building fortresses according to terrain and making full use of natural dangers”. - Ethnic Value: A natural boundary between agricultural and nomadic civilizations, witnessing the exchanges and integration of the Xiongnu, Han, Xianbei and other ethnic groups. - Architectural Value: A model of early stone-built Great Wall in China, with craftsmanship far exceeding that of other contemporary Great Wall sections. My feeling:  Yinshan Rock Paintings (also called Yinshan Rock Carvings) History: Mainly located in the gullies of the Yinshan (Langshan) Mountains in Dengkou County, Urad Front Banner, Urad Middle Banner and Urad Rear Banner of Bayannur. More than 150 sites, over 50,000 images, stretching about 240 kilometers. From the late Paleolithic period to the Ming and Qing dynasties, spanning more than 10,000 years; the earliest date back to about 5,000–6,000 years ago. Importance: Yinshan Rock Paintings are a world-class cultural treasure in Bayannur, Inner Mongolia, praised as“A Thousand-Li History Book Carved on Stone” and “The Father of Chinese Rock Paintings”. Historical Value: - Historical value: A wordless history book of northern nomadic peoples, including Xiongnu, Xianbei, etc. - Artistic value: A combination of ancient realism and symbolic art, one of the origins of northern Chinese art. - Academic value: A “living fossil” for studying ancient ecology, economy, religion and ethnic migration. My feeling:  Read the poem and mark the linking sounds after the model. If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’ e.g. Look at the photos. Add examples of powerful prepositions in English. e.g. There are many kinds. 3. e.g. Go out of the room. I agree. To learn and at due time to repeat what one has learnt, isn't that after all a pleasure? Practice pronunciations Enjoy your study!
