过去进行时
1、 核心概念
过去进行时表示在过去某个特定时间点或时间段正在发生或持续进行的动作。它强调动作的持续性和未完成性。
中文对应: “(过去)正在...”、“(过去)在...着”。
例句: At 8 p.m. last night, I was watching TV. (昨晚8点,我正在看电视。)
2、 基本结构
主语 + was/were + 动词的现在分词(V-ing)
was/were: 助动词,根据主语的人称和数进行变化。
I/He/She/It 单数名词 → was
You/We/They 复数名词 → were
现在分词(V-ing): 动词的-ing形式,构成进行时的核心。

4、 主要用法
1). 表示过去某一时刻正在进行的动作
常与表示过去具体时间的状语连用。
时间点状语: at 8 o‘clock yesterday, at this/that time last night, at noon yesterday 等。
例句: At this time yesterday, I was flying to London. (昨天的这个时候,我正在飞往伦敦的飞机上。)
when 引导的时间状语从句(从句谓语通常是一般过去时),表示“当...发生时,主句动作正在进行”。
例句: The phone rang when I was taking a shower. (我正在洗澡时,电话响了。)
2). 表示过去某一段时间内持续进行的动作
时间段状语: all morning, the whole day, from 8 to 10 last night 等。
例句: He was writing reports all afternoon. (他整个下午都在写报告。)
3). 用于描述过去某个特定场景的背景(常用于故事叙述)
在过去进行时描述的背景下,另一个 shorter action(用一般过去时)发生。
例句:
It was raining heavily. The wind was blowing. People were rushing home. Suddenly, a car stopped in front of me. (雨下得很大,风在呼啸,人们匆匆赶回家。突然,一辆车停在了我面前。)> 前三个过去进行时句子描绘了背景,最后一个一般过去时句子叙述了突然发生的事件。
