Unit 3 What makes a great team?
Passage 1
My name is Mike. I am a Grade 8 student. When I first entered middle school, I had a lot of growing pains. I was not good at study, so I often failed in exams. I felt very upset and lost confidence. My parents were worried about me, and they often encouraged me. My teachers also helped me a lot. They told me that I could do better if I worked hard.
I decided to change. I made a study plan and studied hard every day. I asked my teachers and classmates for help when I had problems. Slowly, my grades improved. I became more confident.

Passage 10
Dear Sun Meng,
In your last email, you asked me what you should do when you are under stress and have worries. One good way that many students in my country find helpful is using a worry box. Let me explain how to make and use one.
Try using a worry box1. Make a special box
Use colourful things and pictures to make your worry box.
Here is a picture of my worry-eating monster box!
2. Write down your worries
Take some pieces of paper and write down your worries.
3. Rate (评价) your worries and store (储存) them in the box
If you like, place each worry on a scale (等级) from 1 to 10. 1 means “a little worried” and 10 means “the most worried”. For example, today I put two worries into the box. I rate “losing my new bike” as a 2 and “getting bad grades in the maths exam” as a 7.
4. Talk it out
Be sure to make some time every day or week to talk about your worries with your parents. Together, you can find the ways to deal with them.
Remember that it’s not healthy to carry worries around in your head. The worry box provides a good place to “share” your worries. By using it, you’ll learn to deal with your worries.
Yours,
Anna

Last month, our school held a group English speech competition. My class formed a team to take part in it. At first, our team was in trouble.
We chose the topic "The Power of Teamwork". We planned to write the speech together, but no one wanted to take the lead. Li Ming said he was busy with his math exam, and Wang Fang said she was not good at writing. Finally, I had to start the work alone, but I felt very stressed.
Then our English teacher, Miss Zhang, gave us some advice. She told us to divide the work according to our strengths. She said, "Li Ming is good at logic, so he can help organize the ideas. Wang Fang is good at speaking, so she can practice the presentation. And you are good at writing, so you can write the speech." We followed her advice.
After that, things got much better. Li Ming organized the ideas clearly. Wang Fang practiced hard and her pronunciation was perfect. I wrote the speech carefully. When we had disagreements, we discussed them calmly and found the best solution. We worked closely for two weeks and finally got the first prize in the competition.

Yours,
Anna
