(2026·广东佛山·一模)Have you ever come across such a situation? At the dinner table, your parents keep telling you to eat more vegetables, but you really want to refuse. Why do many young people dislike eating vegetables even though they have many benefits?
Scientists say young people’s taste buds (味蕾) are not ready for the bitter (苦的) taste of some vegetables because their taste buds aren’t fully mature yet. As they grow older, the taste buds also develop, and they might start to enjoy foods like cabbage. Until that happens, most young people prefer sweet taste instead.
This preference for sweetness is actually normal — the prehistoric people felt the same way. They ate plenty of sweet fruit because it was easy to find and rich in energy. They also learned to be careful with bitter plants, which were often dangerous to eat.
Still, tasting is not just the tongue’s (舌头的) job. The smell of vegetables tells the brains what is eaten. For example, although the onion tastes sweet, some young people still avoid it because of its strong smell. The only way for them to accept onions is to hold their noses while eating. The feel of food also sends messages to their brains. That’s why they dislike certain foods, like thick or creamy ones, no matter how good these foods taste.
So, if you don’t like those vegetables on your plate, you can say there is science behind it. But your parents might tell you to hold your nose before serving you a big plate of vegetables!

(25-26九年级上·广东广州·期末)Running a marathon (马拉松) is one of the greatest physical challenges. The race is about 42 kilometers. To finish it requires months of practice, strong will, and a lot of hard work.
How long does it take to run this distance? Most people need four to five hours. The world record is just over two hours. Completing the race itself is a huge achievement.
Why is it called a “marathon”? The name comes from an ancient Greek legend (传说). After a war at a place called Marathon, a soldier ran all the way to Athens (雅典) to report the victory. The distance he ran is about the same as today’s marathon.
Training for a marathon is serious work. Runners usually train for months. A common plan includes running shorter distances several times a week, and one very long run on the weekend, which can be up to 20 miles. This prepares the body for the long distance.
Lea Tambellini has run more than five marathons and she shares her experience. “Training takes a lot of time, but I enjoy working toward a big goal,” she says. She often trains with friends, which makes the long runs more enjoyable and helps everyone stay motivated. In other words, they feel more excited and willing to work hard. She says the hardest part sometimes comes during the race itself. For example, you might pass a bakery (面包店) and smell fresh cookies when you are very tired. But the feeling of crossing the finish line is wonderful.
Today, thousands of people run marathons every year. The marathon is not only a race. It tests your personal limits, connects you to history, and can even change your life.
16.What is this text mainly about?
A.The history of the marathon in ancient Greece.
B.A runner named Lea and her training tips.
C.The introduction of Marathons and the training for it.

B.Lea has run more than five marathons.
C.The name of marathon comes from a Greek legend.
D.Lea often runs with her friends.

A.Feeling excited and active. B.Feeling tired and weak.
C.Being pushed to do something. D.Being given something nice.
19.Why does the writer mention Lea Tambellini’s story?
A.To list the steps to win a marathon.

D.How the Marathon got its interesting name.
17.Which of the following shows running a marathon requires hard work?
A.Runners usually train for months.
B.Lea has run more than five marathons.
C.The name of marathon comes from a Greek legend.
D.Lea often runs with her friends.
18.What does the word “motivated” most likely mean in paragraph 5?
A.Feeling excited and active. B.Feeling tired and weak.
C.Being pushed to do something. D.Being given something nice.
19.Why does the writer mention Lea Tambellini’s story?
A.To list the steps to win a marathon.
B.To explain the marathon’s long history.
C.To argue that friends must train together.
D.To show a real runner’s experience.
