(巴彦淖尔期末)The Great Barrier Reef(大堡礁)is the world's longest reef. It is over 2,300 km long and lies along the northeastern coast(海岸)of Australia. The reef is made up of billions of corals(珊瑚).It is home to over 1,500 different kinds of fish.
How did the Great Barrier Reef come into being?
The Great Barrier Reef we see today is less than 10,000 years old. About 10,000 years ago, at the end of the last Ice Age, the ice at the North and South Poles turned into water and flooded the land on Australia's coast. The shallow(浅的)water became the
perfect place for corals to grow. Over thousands of years, they joined together and became the Great Barrier Reef today.
Why is the Great Barrier Reef dying?
The Great Barrier Reef is facing many problems today. Pollution, overfishing and over tourism have all caused damage(破坏)to the reef. However, the biggest danger facing the Great Barrier Reef is global warming(全球变暖). Warm waters are causing the corals to die. The Great Barrier Reef has lost around half of its corals since 1995 and this number will only grow if we can't slow or stop global warming. “__▲__”

(沈阳期中)In many places the weather changes during the year. These changes are all called seasons. In the north and south there are four seasons in a year. At the North and South Pole, there are only two seasons. In tropical(热带)places near the earth's equator(赤道), there are two seasons: a “wet” season and a “dry” season. Each season brings changes. They are important for plants and animals that live in different parts of the world.
Spring starts when the day and night are the same length. The weather gets warmer and sunnier. Trees and plants start to grow. Many animals have their babies in spring.
Summer begins on the longest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 or 22 June. Summer is usually the warmest and sunniest time of the year. Fruit grows faster on trees and plants. Young animals grow bigger and stronger.
Autumn starts when the day and night are the same length again. During autumn, the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. Some animals collect food before winter comes.
Winter begins on the shortest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 or 22 December. The weather is colder and in some places, there is lots of snow. Plants and trees stop growing. Some animals, like bats and bears, find places to hide and sleep. This is called hibernation(冬眠).
