As I slid into the back seat of the car, the warm intonations (语调) of the driver’s accent washed over me in a familiar way. I learned that he was a recent West African immigrant with a few young children, working hard to provide for his family. I could relate: I am the daughter of two Ethiopian immigrants who made their share of sacrifices to ensure my success. I told him I was on a college break and headed home to visit my parents. That’s how he found out I go to Harvard. An approving eye glinted at me in the rearview window (后视镜), and quickly, we crossed the boundaries of rider and driver. I became his daughter, all grown up — the product of his sacrifice. And then came the fateful question: “What do you study?” I answered “history and literature” and the pride in his voice faded, as I knew it might. I didn’t even get to add “and African-American studies” before he cut in, his voice thick with disappointment, “All that work to get into Harvard, and you study history?” Here I was, his daughter, squandering the biggest opportunity of her life. He went on to deliver the age-old lecture that all immigrant kids know. We are to become doctors (or lawyers, if our parents are being generous) — to make money and send money back home. The unspoken demand, made across generations which my Uber driver laid out plainly, is simple: Fulfill your role in the narrative of upward mobility so your children can do the same. I used to feel anxious and backed into a corner by the questioning, but now as a junior in college, I’m grateful for their support more than anything. This holiday season, I’ve promised myself I won’t huff and get annoyed at their inquiries. I won’t defensively respond with “but I plan to go to law school” when I get unrequested advice. I’ll just smile and nod, and enjoy the warmth of the occasion. 4. What disappointed the driver? A. The sacrifice of the author’s parents. B. The author’s choice of major at college. C. The author’s casual attitude towards study. D. The author’s poor academic performance at Harvard. 5. Which word can replace the underlined word “squandering” in Paragraph 4? A. Wasting. B. Replacing. C. Valuing. D. Expecting. 6. Why are immigrant kids expected to become doctors or lawyers according to the passage? A. To gain higher social respect and recognition. B. To fulfill the unachieved dreams of their parents. C. To secure financial success and family advancement. D. To gain easier access to top universities like Harvard. 7. What is the author’s attitude towards the driver’s questioning? A. Critical. B. Tolerant. C. Doubtful. D. Supportive. B 5. A 6. C 7. 根据文章第三段中“And then came the fateful question: “What do you study?” I answered “history and literature” and the pride in his voice faded, as I knew it might. I didn’t even get to add “and African-American studies” before he cut in, his voice thick with disappointment, “All that work to get into Harvard, and you study history?”(然后出现了那个决定性的问题:“你学的什么?”我回答说“历史和文学”,我听得出他声音中的自豪感消失了,正如我所预料的那样。我甚至还没来得及补充“还有非裔美国人研究”,他就打断了我,声音里充满了失望:“为了进哈佛费那么大劲,你居然学历史?”)”可知,令这位司机感到失望的是作者学习的专业。故选B项。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据文章第三段中“his voice thick with disappointment, “All that work to get into Harvard, and you study history?(他的声音里充满了失望:“为了进哈佛费那么大劲,你居然学历史?”)”以及划线词所在句下文“He went on to deliver the age-old lecture that all immigrant kids know. We are to become doctors (or lawyers, if our parents are being generous) — to make money and send money back home.(随后,他继续讲着所有移民家庭孩子都耳熟能详的“老生常谈”:我们这些移民后代,就该去当医生(要是父母放宽要求,当个律师也行)——赚钱养家,还要往老家寄钱)”可知,司机认为移民后代应该学医、学法律等,而作者努力考上哈佛大学却选择学历史是在浪费这个机会,由此可知,划线单词所在句“Here I was, his daughter, squandering the biggest opportunity of her life.(在他看来,我这个 “女儿”,简直是在squandering人生中这难得的机遇。)”中的划线单词squandering应是“浪费”含义。故选A项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第四段中“He went on to deliver the age-old lecture that all immigrant kids know. We are to become doctors (or lawyers, if our parents are being generous) — to make money and send money back home. The unspoken demand, made across generations which my Uber driver laid out plainly, is simple: Fulfill your role in the narrative of upward mobility so your children can do the same.(他继续讲着所有移民孩子都知道的老生常谈。 根据文章最后一段“I used to feel anxious and backed into a corner by the questioning, but now as a junior in college, I’m grateful for their support more than anything. This holiday season, I’ve promised myself I won’t huff and get annoyed at their inquiries. I won’t defensively respond with “but I plan to go to law school” when I get unrequested advice. I’ll just smile and nod, and enjoy the warmth of the occasion.(以前,每次被问到这类问题,我都会满心焦虑,仿佛被逼到了墙角;但如今,作为一名大三学生,我心里更多的是对他们这份期许的感激。这个假期,我暗自下定决心:再听到这样的询问,我不会再烦躁地抱怨,也不会急着辩解 “我以后打算读法学院” 来回应这些主动送上的建议。我会笑着点点头,好好享受当下这份温情。)”可知,作者以前面对这类提问会感到焦虑,但现在作为大三学生,更多的是感激他们的支持,还决心不会再对这些询问感到烦躁,只会微笑点头。这体现出作者对司机的质疑持包容、体谅的态度。故选B项。 C Between Durban and Pietermaritzburg in South Africa, a 55-mile Comrades Marathon is unfolding with nine medals, each tied to a strict time limit. Hundreds of runners may fall short even after giving their all, yet they remain excited, proud, and eager to return next year. This scene stands as the most authentic reflection of the “paradox (悖论) of effort”. First coined by University of Toronto psychologist Michael Inzlicht, the concept refers to a seemingly contradictory human tendency that we often pursue things not for ease, but precisely because their difficulty draws us in. Inzlicht and his team credit this persistence to two main factors: first, rewards are more valued because of the effort put in; second, effort itself functions as its own reward. When we invest heavily in something without getting equal returns, we tend to convince ourselves that “the result is worth it.” Over time, like Pavlov’s dogs responding to a bell, we gradually relate effort to positive outcomes. A new study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General in 2025 further uncovered the mystery of the paradox of effort. When considering the future, participants assigned greater value to cash than to mugs (马克杯) that required climbing stairs to obtain, but after actually completing the stair-climbing task, they raised the value of the mugs due to the effort invested. Behind this hides a general principle of timing: future effort takes the shine off the appeal, but past effort gives a brilliance to perceived value. The shift in value perception, however, relies on a critical balance between “within reach” and “out of sight”. While people like something more as it gets more challenging, this appeal fades when it becomes overly difficult. That’s why the marathon has different medals: everyone needs a goal that feels possible with a little extra effort. The paradox of effort never encourages blind suffering; instead, true value often emerges from those “optimal challenges”. Neither should you shy away from toil and trouble, nor should you chase hardship for hardship’s sake. Just as Inzlicht said, “It’s the struggle within the right bounds that fulfills your life and brings lasting happiness.” 8. What does the Comrades Marathon suggest? A. Failure can be a source of pride. B. Strict rules boost participants’ passion. C. Difficulty can be a motivator. D. Physical endurance ensures final success. 9. Which of the following best reflects the factors behind the “paradox of effort”? A. A chef uses pre-made meals for instant profits. B. A researcher abandons project despite potential gains. C. A shopper values self-crafted items over finished ones. D. A student jumps to quick conclusions without thinking. 10. What does the 2025 study show about the “paradox of effort”? A. Future task elevates financial appeal. B. Stair-climbing devalues invested effort. C. Past effort reduces mug’s value. D. Effort shifts perception of its value. 11. What does Inzlicht advise about effort? A. Seek maximum difficulty. B. Bear unnecessary hardship. C. Embrace attainable challenge. D. Pursue effortless happiness. 【答案】8. C 9. C 10. D 11. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。主要阐释“努力悖论”的概念、成因及相关研究,点明适度挑战才能带来持久价值。 【8题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中的“Hundreds of runners may fall short even after giving their all, yet they remain excited, proud, and eager to return next year. (数以百计的跑步者即便拼尽全力仍未达标,却依旧兴奋、自豪,渴望来年再战)”以及第二段中对“努力悖论”的定义“we often pursue things not for ease, but precisely because their difficulty draws us in (我们追求事物往往不是为了安逸,而是恰恰因其难度而被吸引)”可知,马拉松的例子表明困难可以成为一种驱动力。故选C项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Inzlicht and his team credit this persistence to two main factors: first, rewards are more valued because of the effort put in; second, effort itself functions as its own reward.(因兹利希及其研究团队将这种坚持不懈的精神归因于两大主要因素:其一,因付出了努力,回报会被赋予更高的价值;其二,努力本身就是一种回报)”可知,“努力悖论”的两个核心因素:一是付出的努力会让回报更有价值;二是努力本身就是一种回报。选项C“购物者更看重手工制作的物品而非成品”,体现了因为投入了劳动(努力),所以物品的价值在购物者心中被提升,符合“努力悖论”的内涵。故选C项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“When considering the future, participants assigned greater value to cash than to mugs (马克杯) that required climbing stairs to obtain, but after actually completing the stair-climbing task, they raised the value of the mugs due to the effort invested. (在展望未来时,参与者更看重现金,而非需要爬楼梯才能获得的马克杯;但在完成爬楼梯任务后,由于投入了努力,他们提升了马克杯的价值)”可知,2025年的研究表明努力会改变人们对事物价值的认知。故选D项。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“true value often emerges from those “optimal challenges” (真正的价值往往源于那些“适度的挑战”)”以及Inzlicht所说“It’s the struggle within the right bounds that fulfills your life and brings lasting happiness (在合理范围内的拼搏,才能充实人生、带来持久的幸福感)”可知,因兹利希建议人们拥抱可实现的挑战。故选C项。 D Human interaction reflects human nature. It includes both moral and immoral acts. It also includes acts that seem moral but are in fact immoral, and those that seem immoral but are in fact moral. To depict (刻画) human life truthfully, literary writers should try to capture this complexity without relying on an over-simplified moral yardstick (标准). Morality is short on drama, a key ingredient of literature. Drama often relies on the role of a villain (恶人), and its absence would be keenly felt in a story populated only by good guys. In the old days, the standard recipe for a dramatic effect called for the help of either supernatural beings or a female character, whereas modern plays are spiced up by the presence of a villain. We often use the numerical term “hundreds” when talking about good deeds, but use “tens of thousands” to highlight the large number of evils. This peculiar (奇怪的) language feature reflects a relative similarity between good deeds and an abundant variety of evils. Making a donation to the Red Cross isn’t a technically challenging feat (壮举). It’s pretty dull to see how a donation is made, but it can be fascinating to follow the twists and turns in a bribery (贿赂) scheme. Which story, then, do you like to hear? Writers often experiment with what’s considered immoral when they try to be innovative. For example, a time-honored ethical rule calls for mutual understanding between husband and wife. Many stories are based on this rule. One way to go against convention is to run counter to it. Thus, a new story goes as follows. A man hosted a banquet at home celebrating his 20th wedding anniversary. But the host went missing during the wining and dining. His guests looked for him everywhere and finally found him on a stone bench in his backyard, his tie gone, his chest bared, an empty wine bottle in his hand. His friends asked him what was wrong. He said, “Three months after I got married, I realized I could not get along with her, but she refused to end our marriage. I wanted to kill her, but my lawyer said I’d be put behind bars for twenty years if I did that. Twenty years would be too long, I thought. I had no choice but to put up with the pain of this marriage. Now twenty years is gone. If I had done it back then, I would have been freed today. I regret not doing it.” This is obviously an immoral tale. But the temptation to write a story like this is too strong to resist. To add drama to a story, we often have to fall back on bad guys. But they may well steal the show. A movement toward a story’s climax may push immorality to a new level. By contrast, morality’s reach is more limited. 12. According to paragraph 2, whose presence does NOT contribute to a dramatic effect? A. A villain’s. B. Good guys’. C. A female character’s. D. Supernatural beings’. 13. What’s the purpose of mentioning the story about a man in paragraph 4? A. To remind us that the man in the story is indeed a bad guy. B. To emphasize that mutual understanding between husband and wife matters. C. To prove writing about what’s considered immoral can add drama to a story. D. To indicate that moral deeds and actions are essential themes for story writers. 14. What does the underlined words “steal the show” mean in paragraph 5? A. Reveal the shocking ending. B. Take away the profits. C. Become the focus of attention. D. Explain the whole show. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? A. Literature and morality. B. Good deeds and evils. C. Innovation of literature. D. Limits of human nature. 【答案】12. B 13. C 14. C 15. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讨论的是文学与道德之间的关系。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Drama often relies on the role of a villain (恶人), and its absence would be keenly felt in a story populated only by good guys. In the old days, the standard recipe for a dramatic effect called for the help of either supernatural beings or a female character, whereas modern plays are spiced up by the presence of a villain.( 戏剧往往离不开反派角色的塑造;如果一个故事里全是好人,观众会明显感到缺少看点。在过去,营造戏剧效果的惯用手法是借助超自然力量或女性角色,而现代戏剧则通过反派的登场增添张力。)”可知,只有好人的故事没有戏剧效果,因此好人的出现不能增强戏剧感。故选B。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Writers often experiment with what’s considered Immoral when they try to be innovative.(作家想要创新时,常会尝试描写被视为不道德的内容。)”和“This is obviously an immoral tale. But the temptation to write a story like this is too strong to resist.(这显然是个不道德的故事。但创作这类故事的诱惑难以抗拒。)”可知,第四段整段用这个丈夫后悔没杀妻子的故事,举例证明写不道德内容能增加戏剧冲突与创新性。故选C。 【14题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第五段“To add drama to a story, we often have to fall back on bad guys. But they may well steal the show. A movement toward a story’s climax may push immorality to a new level. By contrast, morality’s reach is more limited.(为增加戏剧感,我们常要依靠反派。但他们很可能steal the show。故事走向高潮时,不道德行为会被推向新高度,相比之下道德的影响力更有限。)”可知,反派角色增加戏剧感,可能会成为焦点。由此可知,steal the show意为“抢风头、成为焦点”。故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。文章第一段“Human interaction reflects human nature. It includes both moral and immoral acts.(人类互动反映了人性。它包括道德和不道德的行为。)”点明了文章的主题,即人性中的道德和不道德行为,接下来文章通过讨论文学中的戏剧性元素,进一步探讨了道德和不道德行为在文学中的表现,由此可知,文章主要讨论的是文学与道德之间的关系,所以选项A“文学与道德”适合作为文章标题。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Fragile. Oversensitive. Glued to their phones. ___16___ While there may be some truth to these stereotypical (刻板印象的) features, there might be more to this generation of teens than what is generally observed. Never before have the lives of any generation of teens been as flooded with mobile technology and social media as the teens of this generation. ___17___ This is in contrast to the more village spirit or community-oriented attitude of their parents’ and grandparents’ days. We have teens who may not know about who lives in the unit next to theirs, much less offer a friendly nod or wave when they happen to cross paths with a neighbour. ___18___ Arguably, the very connectedness that social media brings about has led to an opening of minds and a flourishing (繁盛) of dialogue among people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Logging onto platforms where people of all walks of life meet means that one is exposed to those people and their distinctive ways of life. In comparison, the parents or grandparents of this generation of teens probably did not have the same opportunity to get to know people outside of their social circles at their age, and are thus more likely to have fixed, stereotypical opinions of people different from them. This generation of teens, on the other hand, has the chance to use this technology to learn more about and attempt to understand the variety and diversity out there. ___19___ To conclude, the teens of this generation differ in many ways from their predecessors (前辈), in some ways more positive than others. ___20___ Therefore, this generation of teens differs from past generations, with the changes around them. A. No wonder the self-confidence and mental health of teens have been damaged. B. Yet, the effects of technology on this generation of teens are not all bad. C. Is this what comes to mind when we think of the teens of this generation? D. Their parents or grandparents were likely less connected and more isolated. E. Moreover, in the older generations’ mind, the teens today are more individualistic. F. As a result, this might be why the teens today are more open-minded and progressive. G. Every generation is a product of the cultural, political and economic events of their time. 【答案】16. C 17. E 18. B 19. F 20. G 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章认为这一代在移动技术和社交媒体环境下成长的年轻人受到了社交媒体的负面影响,自尊和心理健康受到打击,更为个人主义,但是也获得了积极的影响,变得更有见识,更加开明。 【16题详解】 空前“Fragile. Oversensitive. Glued to their phones. (脆弱的。过于敏感。盯着手机不放)”是一些对当代青少年的普遍印象,C选项“Is this what comes to mind when we think of the teens of this generation? (当我们想到这一代的青少年时,我们会想到这一点吗)”是对前文的提问,代词this指代前文内容。空后“While there may be some truth to these stereotypical (刻板印象的) features, there might be more to this generation of teens than what is generally observed. (虽然这些刻板的特征可能有一定的道理,但这一代青少年可能比一般观察到的要多得多)”对空格提问进行了回答。故选C。 【17题详解】 空后“This is in contrast to the more village spirit or community-oriented attitude of their parents’ and grandparents’ days. (这与他们父母和祖父母时代的乡村精神或社区导向的态度形成鲜明对比)”强调父母或祖父母那代人注重社区邻里关系,代词This说明空格内容与后文形成对比,E选项“Moreover, in the older generations’ mind, the teens today are more individualistic. (此外,在老一辈的心目中,如今的青少年更加个人主义)”描述当代青少年更个人主义,“individualistic”和后文的“ community-oriented”形成对比。故选E。 【18题详解】 空后“Arguably, the very connectedness that social media brings about has led to an opening of minds and a flourishing (繁盛) of dialogue among people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. (可以说,正是社交媒体带来的连通性导致了不同文化和背景的人们之间思想的开放和对话的繁荣) ”描述了社交媒体的好处,B选项“Yet, the effects of technology on this generation of teens are not all bad. (然而,科技对这一代青少年的影响并不全是坏事)”也在强调好处,承接后文。故选B。 【19题详解】 空前“This generation of teens, on the other hand, has the chance to use this technology to learn more about and attempt to understand the variety and diversity out there. (另一方面,这一代青少年有机会利用这项技术来了解和尝试了解那里的多样性和多样性)”描述了当代青少年通过这项技术学到的内容,正面表述,F选项“As a result, this might be why the teens today are more open-minded and progressive. His shift at the grocery store had ended late, and he had skipped dinner just to clean up the mess in aisle (过道) four. The streets were quiet, and the bus stop ahead looked like a tiny island in the dark. As Leo got closer, he saw the red taillights of the last bus pulling away. “No!” he shouted, breaking into a run. But it was too late. Leo stood there for a moment, breathing hard, watching the bus disappear down the street. His phone was dead, his gloves were too thin and he had no money for a taxi. The walk home would take at least an hour, and the snow was starting to fall again. Leo sat down on the cold bench, rubbing (搓) his hands together and trying not to feel too sorry for himself. Across the street, a small café still had its lights on. A sign in the window said “Open Late”, and warm yellow light spilled out onto the sidewalk. Leo hesitated. He didn’t want to spend money he didn’t have, but he also didn’t want to freeze. Finally, he crossed the street and pushed open the door. Inside, it smelled like cinnamon (肉桂) and hot chocolate. The woman behind the counter looked up and gave him a kind smile. “Long night?” she asked. Leo nodded and told her about the missed bus. “Well, sit down and warm up,” she said, already pouring a drink. “This is free.” Leo held the warm mug between his hands and took small sips (一小口), letting the heat return to his body. The cafe was quiet except for soft jazz playing in the background. The woman brought him a plate of cookies. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 “My husband used to miss his bus all the time,” she said, laughing. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As he stepped back into the snow, Leo felt lighter somehow. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 “My husband used to miss his bus all the time,” she said, laughing. “He’d come here just like you, half-frozen and frustrated. That’s why I keep the cafe open late—to offer a warm place for those in need.” He listened, deeply moved by her kindness, his throat tight with an emotion he couldn’t name. He finished the hot chocolate and cookies, feeling warmth not just in his body but also in his heart. It was a simple gesture, yet it felt like a lifeline, a quiet promise that he wasn’t as alone as he had thought. Before leaving, he insisted on helping her wipe the tables, despite her refusal. As he stepped back into the snow, Leo felt lighter somehow. The cold wind no longer seemed so bitter, and the walk home felt shorter than before, the city lights now holding a gentle glow. He realized that sometimes, missing a bus could lead to meeting a kind soul—a small twist of fate that changed everything. The next day, he returned to the café with a thank-you card and a new pair of warm gloves, determined to spread the same warmth he had received. It was more than gratitude; it felt like the start of something new, a quiet promise to pass kindness forward. 1】He listened, deeply moved by her kindness, his throat tight with an emotion he couldn’t name.(运用了过去分词短语作状语和独立主格结构以及省略that或者which引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】It was a simple gesture, yet it felt like a lifeline, a quiet promise that he wasn’t as alone as he had thought.(运用了同位语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 江苏省南京市第金陵中学2025-2026学年 高二下学期英语三月月考试卷 全卷满分:150分 考试时间:120分钟 2026.03 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分) 注意,听力部分答题时,请先将答案标在试卷上。听力部分结束前,你将有两分钟的时间将答案转涂到答题卡上。 第一节 (共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话读两遍。 1. B A few weeks ago, I called an Uber to take me to the Boston airport for a flight home for the holidays. A. Critical. B. Tolerant. C. Doubtful. D. Supportive. C Between Durban and Pietermaritzburg in South Africa, a 55-mile Comrades Marathon is unfolding with nine medals, each tied to a strict time limit. D Human interaction reflects human nature. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Fragile. 第三部分:语言应用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Just ahead on the narrow road, the light from Kim’s torch (手电筒) flashed towards me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
