For high school leavers starting out in the working world, it is very important to learn particular skills and practise how to behave in an interview or how to find all internship(实习). In some countries, schools have programs to help students onto the path to work. In the United States, however, such programs are still few and far between.
Research shows that if high schools provide career-related courses, students are likely to get higher earnings in later years. The students are more likely to stay in school, graduate and go on to higher education.
In Germany, students as young as 13 and 14 are expected to do internships. German companies work with schools to make sure that young people get the education they need for future employment.
But in America, education reform programs focus on how well students do in exams instead of bringing them into contact with the working world. Harvard Education school professor Robert Schwartz has criticized education reformers for trying to place all graduates directly on the four-year college track. Schwartz argued that this approach leaves the country’s most vulnerable (易受影响的) kids with no jobs and no skills.
Schwartz believed that the best career programs encourage kids to go for higher education while also teaching them valuable practical skills at high school. James Madison High School in New York, for example, encourages students to choose classes on career-based courses. The school then helps them gain on-the-job experience in those fields while they’re still at high school.
However, even for teens whose schools encourage them to connect with work, the job market is daunting. In the US, unemployment rates for 16-to-l9-year-olds are above 20 percent for the third summer in a row.
“The risk is that if teenagers miss out on the summer job experience, they become part of this generation of teens who had trouble in landing a job,” said Michael, a researcher in the US.
21.In the author’s opinion, American high school leavers _______.
A.have enough career-related courses
B.need more career advice from their schools
C.perform better in exams than German students
D.can get higher earnings in later years
22.According to Robert Schwartz, ________.
A.there is no need for kids to go for higher education in the US
B.students should get contact with the working world at high school
C.education reform should focus on students’ performance in exams
D.teenagers in the US can’t miss out on the summer job experience
23.What can be inferred from the text?
A.Unemployment rates for US teenagers remain high at the moment.
B.Students with career-based courses never have problems finding a job.
C.US companies work with schools to prepare young people for future employment.
D.High school leavers with no practical skills can’t find a job absolutely.

Pooja Kaul, a postgraduate student at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, India, one day came to the Lashkar community, where people relied on donkeys (驴) for work on building sites. “Despite working all day, they received just Rs 300-400, hardly enough to feed their large families,” Pooja said. “While donkey milk has been a local resource, it is not as popular as cow milk. As a result, they didn’t make more money.”
Pooja wanted to help the community find economic value in donkey milk. So Pooja turned to a different use — skincare. She made her first set of 250 soaps (肥皂) and returned to her hometown, Delhi. She showed her products at city exhibitions and received excellent reviews. Today, her company Organiko offers products like handmade soaps and face masks, with plans to add sunscreens. The products serve a wide market, completing more than 500 orders monthly with customers in many cities.
Shahid, a 27-year-old building worker, manages a group of at least 20 donkeys. Since partnering with Organiko, Shahid has been getting about Rs 1,300 per unit of donkey milk. “Earlier, the milk had no value, and the donkeys were often given little attention. Now, we can offer them better living conditions,” Shahid says. “We milk the donkeys every other day, ensuring their babies get enough feeding first. We never overmilk or stress the animals; our focus is on care.”
Meanwhile, Pooja tried hard to do more. “I applied under the National Livestock Mission in 2023, which offered government funding (资金) to animal-related new businesses. But after an 11-month-long process, there was no progress,” she said. “However, our work raised awareness about this field. In 2024, donkey farming was formally included under the National Livestock Mission. Similar businesses can now get funding aid. Although the journey was tough, it led to a positive change in action.”
The challenges ahead won’t stop Pooja. Today, her work is helping rewrite the story around donkeys. Once seen as working animals, they have now become a symbol of economic opportunity.
26.What did Pooja say about the Lashkar community people?
A.They were quite skilled workers. B.They struggled to make a living.
C.They owned valuable farm animals. D.They cared little about donkey milk.
27.What can we learn about Pooja’s business?
A.It has achieved rapid growth. B.It faces continuous challenges.
C.It depends heavily on online sales. D.It focuses on a unique customer group.
28.What extra benefit did Shahid’s partnership with Organiko provide?
A.Increasing donkey milk production. B.Improving the donkeys’ well-being.
C.Advancing animal training practice. D.Developing local building businesses.
29.Pooja’s efforts in 2023 brought________.
A.huge pay rises for Indian farmers B.strict guidelines on animal farming
C.official support for donkey farming D.growing popularity of raising donkeys
30.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Turn community resources into wealth
B.Study donkey farming in poor communities
C.Offer working animals better living conditions
D.Change the skincare industry with natural products

Nature impacted the lives of people all around the world in different ways. For Nicki Voss, it led to the start of her small business, Textile pop, a quilt (被子) making and sewing class business.
One day, Voss was walking along the Santa Clara River Trail and observed that, at a time of uncertainty when many businesses failed, one thing remained permanent: nature. Voss grew up going on camping trips with her family as a young girl, which taught her to appreciate her surroundings and the outside. “Although the leaves change colors with the seasons, nature never truly changes,” said Voss.
Voss grabbed her camera, went to the Los Angeles Griffith Observatory, and photographed the scenic view of famous buildings that have appeared in numerous films and other pop culture mediums. She then began to make the photograph of downtown Los Angeles stand out on cloth. The quilt, titled “Downtown Los Angeles Quilt”, was made from 583 individually cut pieces of new fabric (织物), with each piece intentionally placed in the perfect location to create a contemporary art quilt.
Voss has created numerous contemporary art quilts following her initial one. Ranging from bright colors to earth tones, Voss’ creations have risen from her photographs of California’s kinds of landscapes such as oak trees, the Central Coast, Death Valley, the Eastern Sierra Dusk, etc.
After working for many years, Voss found herself wanting to do something different. Voss signed up with the College of the Canyons to take online classes concerning the ins and outs of company operations. “It was absolutely inspiring. I learned so much. I went through everything including the introduction to human resource management, business e-commerce, accounting, marketing... all of the details,” Voss said. “Then the idea started to take shape itself.”
And when the time was right, she launched Textile pop. Voss offers a variety of course options for individuals of all ages interested in learning how to sew. Voss said people nowadays no longer learn manual (手工的) arts like they once used to. “Something as simple as sewing a button suddenly becomes a mystery,” Voss said.
31.What inspired Voss to start her business?
A.Her passion for sewing and quilting. B.Her desire to teach others about nature.
C.The close bond with family members. D.The constancy and stability of nature.
32.What did Voss do after obtaining the photographs of famous buildings?
A.Add bright colors to them. B.Turn them into landscape paintings.
C.Produce a short film using them. D.Translate the image onto cloth.
33.What does the author intend to reveal by mentioning a series of California’s landscapes?
A.The diverse elements in Voss’ works.
B.The accessibility of California’s landscapes.
C.The commercial success of Voss’ art quilts.
D.The impact of Voss’ art on natural landscapes.
34.Why did Voss take online classes through the College of the Canyons?
A.To change her career path to teaching.
B.To gain knowledge about running a business
C.To broaden the network of relationships.
D.To find inspiration for her art creation.
35.What is this text mainly about?
A.Nicki Voss’ efforts to save the lost manual arts.

46.Although/While/Though 47.for 48.to help 49.guiding 50.had assumed 51.were lost 52.Invested 53.what 54.yourself 55.whose
故填Although/While/Though。
根据上文“ I soon realized it didn’t fulfill my need for purpose. I enjoyed doing things I found meaningful.” 故填for。
故填to help。
故填were lost。
故填what。

My job experience
Recently, I got a job at Pizza Hut as a cleaner.
I worked seven hours a day for four weeks. The job was hard and boring and seemed endless, which made me so tired that I nearly gave it up halfway. But I stuck to it with determination. Every day I set off for work early in the morning and got home late in the evening. Finally I finished the job before the new term began.
Although I met with a lot of difficulties in the work, it helped me understand what labor means better.
