Meet “The Belt and Road (一带一路) Band”—four international students create wonderful music together in China. The band was formed in 2018 when the members met at a university in Nanchang. Meet “The Belt and Road (一带一路) Band”—four international students create wonderful music together in China. The band was formed in 2018 when the members met at a university in Nanchang. Daniel from Tanzania is the lead singer and keyboard player. Abbe from Zambia plays the bass (贝斯). From Zimbabwe come Nyase, the drummer, and Olee, the backing vocalist (伴唱). Though they have different cultural backgrounds, they share the same dream—to build cultural bridges through music.
In 2022, the band started to gain popularity when they began performing at local cultural events. The band chose their name because they believe in connection and exchange, just like the spirit of the Belt and Road Initiative. “Music has no borders (边界),” says Daniel. “We want to show how different cultures can work together in perfect harmony.”
In 2024, the band started working with local schools to teach students about different cultures through music. Their big break came in 2025 when their song “Fight for Our City” was chosen as the official anthem for the Gan Chao football league. The song was released (发布) in October 2025 and quickly became popular among football fans. When they perform, traditional Chinese opera mixes perfectly with modern pop music, creating a special sound. Their music isn’t just for fun—it’s a powerful cheer for sportsmanship and cultural exchange.
Through their shows at Gan Chao events, the band has helped make the football matches into multidimensional (多维的) cultural platforms. Sports serve as the stage while music becomes the bridge connecting different cultures. The band’s performances vividly show how sports and music can work together to display a city’s spirit.
