When was the last time you used cash? For many of us, it feels like ages. Have you ever looked carefully at RMB notes?
Today, we pay for most of things with the phone. Banknotes (纸币) seem to have disappeared, but they mean much more than that. Instead, they offer valuable windows into Chinese culture. Take the ¥ 100 note for example. It’s background pattern looks very similar to a phoenix design on a piece of Warring States Period lacquerware (漆器)!
In fact, China was one of the first countries in the world to use paper money. During the Song dynasty, people began to use notes such as jiaozi. They had detailed designs, including dragons and phoenixes. Besides being beautiful, this made it hard to make fake (虚假的) money.
Today, each RMB note has a flower that plays an important role in Chinese culture. For instance, the ¥ 50 note bears the chrysanthemum. This flower often carries the meaning of the hermit, especially because of Tao Yuanming, the poet who wrote the famous line “Plucking chrysanthemums by the eastern fence.”
Another great example is the plum blossom on the ¥ 100 note. This flower blooms in the cold of winter, so it often stands for strength, hope, and courage. It’s probably the most celebrated flower in our culture and has appeared in more poems than one can count since ancient times.
RMB notes carry a cultural weight far heavier than the numbers printed on them!
50. What can we infer from the text about RMB notes?
A. Different notes have different designs.
B. They are no longer used in our daily life.
C. They were first used in the Warring States Period.
51. What does the underlined word “this” refer to?
A. The invention of jiaozi.
B. The beauty of the notes.
C. The detailed designs on notes.
52. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To show cultural values behind RMB banknotes.
B. To introduce the history of Chinese paper money.
C. To call in people to use cash as often as possible.
53. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. RMB Notes: More Than Just Money
B. Banknotes: Disappearance in the Digital Age
C. Flowers on RMB Notes: Their Cultural Meanings

A new study suggests that AI could speed up the grading process for teachers, but it may give up some correctness in the process.
The study explored how Large Language Models (LLM) grade students’ work compared to humans. For the study, one question asked students to explain what happens to molecules (分子) when heat energy is passed to them. A correct answer would explain that molecules move slower in cold conditions and faster when heated. An LLM called Mixtral then created its own grading rules to judge the answers and give final scores.
The results showed that the AI’s grading rules had some similarities with those made by teachers. The model could tell what the question was asking, but it didn’t have the ability to reason like humans do. Instead, it depended mostly on quick ways, jumping to conclusions based on limited (有限的) information. For example, if a student used words like “temperature rise”, the AI might think they understood that molecules move faster when heated, even if their explanation was unclear or incomplete.
Even though AI can grade much more quickly, the researchers advise against fully replacing human graders. Teacher-made grading rules are usually clearer. Without these, the AI’s accuracy (准确性) was only 33.5%. But when it used grading rules created by teachers, its accuracy improved to just over 50%.
Though AI still has a long way to go, the study suggests it could one day help teachers with grading tasks — especially if its accuracy continues to improve. For now, human judgment is still important in the classroom.
54. Which statement is TRUE according to the text?
A. AI can grade more quickly without teacher-made grading rules.
B. AI’s grading rules are totally different from those made by teachers.
C. Mixtral’s grading accuracy can be improved with teacher-made grading rules.
55. Which sentence uses “reason” with the same meaning as the underlined “reason” in the text?
A. Only human beings have reason.
B. Please tell me the reason for your being late.
C. It’s important for students to reason and think independently.
56. What is the writer’s attitude towards AI helping with grading tasks?
A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Worried.
57. How is the text mainly organized?
A. By comparing numbers to show the main idea.
B. By showing a study and discussing its findings.
C. By describing a problem and then offering solutions.

It’s common for parents to compare their children to other kids. While they might mean well, it can make you feel sad or even angry. 58 Here are some tips for you.
Understand their purposes.
Most parents compare because they want you to improve. 59 So, try to understand their purposes. Ask yourself: are they really criticizing me, or just hoping I’ll do better?
Communicate calmly.
If comparisons (比较) get you down, talk to your parents in a respectful way. 60 For example, you can say, “I know you want me to succeed, but when you compare me to others, I feel like I’m not good enough.”
61
If your parents praise some people, ask yourself what you can learn from them. Maybe they study effectively, practise more, or use time more wisely. Get into their good habits, and you will do better next time.
Build self-confidence.
Write down your strengths — maybe you’re creative, kind, or brave. 62 With the confidence, you will not care too much about unhelpful comparisons.
Parents’ comparisons can be tough, but you can deal with them wisely. Stay calm, communicate, and focus on growing at your own pace. Remember, you are not defined by others’ achievements — your progress is what truly matters.
A. Turn comparisons into drive.
B. Leave others’ good habits behind.
C. So, how should you deal with this situation?
D. They believe others’ success will encourage you.
E. When your parents compare, think of what makes you special.
F. This helps them understand your feelings without an argument.

World Environment Day of 2025 highlights the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution”. Today’s young business owners have a strong sense of environmental protection. In China, many of them are also answering this call.
Gao Chao from Shenzhen sets a good example in green fashion. Her brand UOOSEE collects over 3,000 old bike tyres (轮胎) every month from nearly 2,000 shops. Instead of throwing them away, she cleans and cuts the tyres, and then sews them into long-lasting and waterproof (防水的) backpacks.
Lun Jiayu from Foshan, founder of HowBottle, is also a pollution fighter. She recycles plastic bottles and fishing nets and then uses them to make bags, hats and even eyeglasses. “If plastic can be recycled or kept within human society rather than ending up in nature, it still has value,” she said.
Ren Yao from Chengdu, founder of AbuSolutely, makes a more eco-friendly bike. “I was inspired by a photo of a bamboo bike from a century ago in Britain,” Ren said. After years of research and development, his bamboo bikes passed a big test. He rode one from Chengdu to Lhasa! “With the same weight, bamboo fibre can bear three times the load of steel,” Ren said happily.
Nowadays, more brands are joining the fight against plastic pollution. This trend is creating a positive circle. Firstly, it helps drive down technological costs. And young people are welcoming eco-friendly products. Besides, by using these products, more people will come to protect our environment and live a greener life.
