体育单招英语真题人物故事类阅读理解汇编 2015年 B篇 The dogsled race was about to begin. Julie's team of dogs was lined up at the starting gate. Julie stood behind them. The air was so cold that she could see her breath. Other teams were lined up, too, and the dogs were excited. Julie kept her eyes on the clock. At exactly ten o'clock, she and the other racers shouted, "Mush!" The dogs knew that meant "Go!" They jumped forward and the race began! Julie had trained months for this race, and she hoped she and her dogs would win. Hour after hour, day after day, Julie's dogs pulled the sled in order to get in shape for the race. Now, they ran over snowy hills and down into frozen valleys. They stopped only to rest and eat. They wanted to stay ahead of other teams. The racers got them to go a thousand miles across Alaska. The dogs’ thick fur coats helped keep them warm in the cold wind and weather. In many places along the way, the snow was deep. Pieces of ice were as sharp as a knife. The ice could cut the dogs' feet. To keep that from happening, Julie had put special booties on their feet. At first, the dogs seemed to pull the sled very slowly. They were still getting used to the race. But on the third day out, they began to pull more quickly. They worked as a team and passed many other racers. Once, one of the sled's runners slid into a hole and the sled was broken. Julie could have given up then, but she didn't. She fixed it and they kept going. When they finally reached the finish line, they found out that they had come in first place! It was a great day for Julie and her dogs. 35. The Story of a Dogsled Race 2016年 B篇 Tem heard a noise and stopped to listen. When he heard it again, he ran towards the noise, and saw an old man lying among the wild flowers. It looked as though he'd been bitten by a wolf or a bear. "Are you all right?" he asked, raising the man's head. The old man coughed. "My arms and legs. The wolves. Attacked. Help me." he cried and then passed out. The man was bleeding heavily from many bites. Tem tore some strips from his shirt and tied them around the wounds. He didn't dare move him, for fear the wolves would come back and finish him off. He could hear the wolves howling again. He stayed with the man all night. When the sun came up in the morning the old man opened his eyes. "Who are you?" he asked. Tem woke up. "I'm Tem. I'm from the Roma camp, over the hill. I found you last night." "Ah, boy. I am Roma too. I was on my way to another camp to play my violin when three wolves came. I am lucky to be alive. My name is Garridan." The old man attempted a smile and held Tem's hand. "Where is my violin?" he asked. "Violin? I didn't see one." Tem answered. He stood up and walked around in the grass and flowers, looking for it. "Here it is." He carried it to Garridan. "It's beautiful. It's much heavier than my papa's." "It belonged to my grandfather, and his grandfather before him. It's priceless, and its music, ah...there is none more beautiful." Garridan said. "I think you should come to our camp. My mama and papa will be waking up soon. When they find me gone, they will worry. They'll take care of your wounds. Come," Tem said, urging the man to stand up. My father thought I wouldn't live for very long, but tests proved that I was a healthy baby boy just with limbs missing. Understandably, my parents had strong fears of what kind of life I'd be able to lead. The law in Australia didn't allow me to study in a mainstream school because of my physical disability. However, mother fought for the law to be changed. I was one of the first disabled students to go into a mainstream school. I liked going to school, and just tried to live life like everyone else, but it was in my early years of school where I had uncomfortable times of feeling not being accepted because of my physical difference. It was very hard for me to get used to, but with the support of my parents, I started to develop attitudes and values which helped me go through these difficult times. I knew that I was different but on the inside I was just like everyone else. There were many times when I felt so low that I wouldn't go to school. I was encouraged by my parents and tried starting to make friends by just talking with some children. Soon the students realized that I was just like them. I am now twenty-three years old and have completed my university study. I am also a speaker and love to go out and share my story wherever possible. I have developed talks to encourage students to face their problems. Writing several best-selling books has been one of my dreams and I hope to finish writing my first by the end of the year. It will be called "No Arms, No Legs, No Worries." 31. How was Nick when he was born? A. He has neither arms nor legs. B. He had had an accident. C. He was very ill. D. He was dying. 32. Where did Nick get support when he was feeling sad at school? A. From his classmates. B. From his best friends. C. From his parents. D. From his brothers. 33. What is one of Nick's dreams? A. To give a talk to disabled. B. To finish his university study. C. To travel to as many places as possible. D. To encourage people with his books. 2019年 A篇 Before I started my first job as a security guard at the Convention Inn South in Edmonton, my father told me, "Do your job like you’re the owner of the company". That way, if I made a mistake, my bosses wouldn't fault me because I had their best interests at heart. I was 18, a year out of high school, and worked from midnight to 8 a.m. As I walked around the 237-room hotel on my rounds, I would pick up any litter I saw on my floor, wipe dirt off windows and do anything I could to make the hotel more attractive to guests. These duties weren't in my job description but I did them anyway. After several months, the hotel’s owner asked me if I would be interested in being the hotel’s management trainee. I was amazed and excited. "You know why we are giving you this promotion?" The company’s president asked as he sat behind his huge desk. We saw you picking up litter as you did your rounds, and we said, "There’s a guy who cares about our hotel." "You stood out from the crowd." Twenty-seven years later, I am with the same company. The owners put me through university and offered me the chance to hold a variety of jobs at the company level and to oversee some 750 employees. Whenever I get the chance, I give employees the same advice my father gave me. And yes, when I walk around, I still pick up litter. 31. He has retired from the company. 2020年 A篇 It has been two years since I last went to school. Now I'm ready to apply for a school and start again. I was totally different in junior high school. I used to be a good student. I was in the top class and had quite high scores in the exams. But all of that changed after I graduated from grade 9. I got into a bad group of friends and started drinking and taking drugs. I was soon kicked out of school. For the following six months I was in and out of drug rehab before I decided I was ready to start again at a new school. But I didn't stay there long. I found it hard to concentrate on anything. I kept thinking about things that really had nothing to do with school. At first, I missed classes once or twice a week. Then it was nearly every day. Finally, they asked me to leave and not to come back. I haven't been studying for the past two years, but I started up an Internet business and I now earn enough money to support my family. However, I have forgotten about life as a normal student at school. I am worried that I won't be able to sit down and study in a class like any other normal student of my age. Really it is not exactly a normal school that I am going to apply for now. It allows people to organize himself to go to class and study once a week, either in the evenings or at the weekends. I think I could manage that! From now on, I am going to take my education seriously. I’ll work towards a degree. Some people might say that they don't care about a piece of paper. But I know it is important to get a degree. I believe that education is the most important thing in life and that it will lead to success. 31. What did the author use to be like before grade 9? A. Hopeless. 2022年 B篇 It was 5:00 am and the first call came. “Good morning, Nancy,” the Red Cross operator said, “We have a fire for you.” Six dogs were homeless after they and their owners were displaced by a fire in North Philly. The situation was exactly why Nancy Leary had founded Red Paw Emergency Relief Team, a nonprofit that rescues and takes care of pets and reunites them with families after fires, gas leaks, and other disasters. Red Paw started at midnight on July 25, 2011; it took barely five hours for Nancy to receive her first call. As a firefighter for seven years and a volunteer Red Cross responder for nine years, Nancy was disturbed by how animals were lost or forgotten after a disaster. “I’ve always been the person who see a problem and ways to fix it. People had to leave their pets in a burned house, take them to a shelter, or let them go on the street.” she says. After the flames of disaster die down, she always tries her best to find the pets and makes sure that no one is left behind. Nancy retired from the fire department in 2014 to devote herself to Red Paw, which has helped save over 2000 pets. She initially keeps many of them at home with her five cats, and two dogs. Her 500 volunteers include transporters and care providers. “I remember vividly how happy the family and the dogs were to be back together,” Nancy says, thinking back to Red Paw’s first rescue. “It’s what makes this job meaningful.” 35. What is the first paragraph mainly about? A. The rescue of homeless dogs. B. How Red Cross operates. C. The cause of a fire in North Philly. D. Why Red Paw was founded. 36. What does Nancy think of herself? A. She is quick to find and fix problems. B. She is very good at training animals. C. She is an able and skillful firefighter. D. She is an active Red Cross responder. 37. How long did Nancy work as a firefighter? A. 3 years. B. 7 years. C. 9 years. D. 25 years. 38. Why does Nancy think that her job is meaningful? A. It helps get pets back to their owners. B. It works to prevent huge disasters. C. It makes donations for needy families. D. It offers assistance to firefighters. 2023年 B篇 Samantha, like many renters, is tired of renting. One reason is that her rent goes up like clockwork. Every year her landlord raises the rent five percent. Another reason is her neighbors. “New neighbors always seem to think less about other people than the ones who moved out,” she said. My first neighbor always closed the door heavily, I always knew when he came home or left home. After he moved out, a saxophonist moved in. A saxophonist! He practiced two hours a day. On Saturday his friends would come over and I'd get to listen to a whole band. I called the police, but they said saxophone playing is permitted in apartments for up to four hours a day, because saxophone playing is job-related. They told me I was lucky that the man was only playing two hours a day! There are many unhappy renters, but there also happy ones. “I've been lucky my whole life,” said Howard, a middle-aged man, “My neighbors couldn't have been any better if I had picked them myself. One neighbor was a cook. He'd bring me some delicious dishes. Another neighbor was a pianist. She played the most delightful music. Another neighbor was a repair man who helped me with my car all the time and changed the oil in my car. My latest neighbor is a birder, we go to the forest every weekend to watch birds.” Different persons have different ways of looking at life. Samantha saw the saxophone player as a troublemaker, yet Howard saw the piano player as a happiness bringer. Millions of people would be happy just to have a roof over their head. Yet there are millions who would be always saying that roof is the wrong color. 35. What is a reason for Samantha being tired of renting an apartment? A. Her landlord is impolite. B. The rent increases every year. C. Her neighbors are boring. D. The place becomes dangerous. 36. What did Samantha think of the saxophonist? A. Delightful. B. Sensitive. C. Annoying. D. Responsible. 37. What does Howard do every weekend with his latest neighbor? A. He learns cooking. B. He watches birds in the forest. C. He listens to music. D. He goes out for a ride in his car. 38. What determines the feeling of happiness according to the text? A. The way you look at life. B. The profession you are in. C. The people you stay with. D.
