Most of us have tooth problems from time to time, but only a few of us go to the dentist. Lots of us find it a little bit horrible, but we have to understand that a dentist is someone who wants to help us by making sure that we have healthy teeth and gums (牙龈).
Dentists’ job is to give us advice about how to take good care of our teeth and gums. They also tell us about making healthy choices about our eating habits. This is because the choices we make about our food every day can make a big difference to our teeth. Having healthy teeth is an important part of having a healthy body, so dentists encourage us to have cleaning and check-ups for our teeth from time to time. Dentists also do things like filling teeth, removing teeth, polishing teeth and so on. Sometimes they have to take X-rays to look at our teeth and gums to find out what the problem is.
There are different kinds of dentists. For example, an orthodontist (正畸医师) fits braces (牙箍) that help people to straighten teeth, and a paediatric (儿科的) dentist looks after children’s teeth.

Passage 6
Dear Sun Meng,
In your last email, you asked me what you should do when you are under stress and have worries. One good way that many students in my country find helpful is using a worry box. Let me explain how to make and use one.
Try using a worry box1. Make a special box
Use colourful things and pictures to make your worry box.
Here is a picture of my worry-eating monster box!
2. Write down your worries
Take some pieces of paper and write down your worries.
3. Rate (评价) your worries and store (储存) them in the box
If you like, place each worry on a scale (等级) from 1 to 10. 1 means “a little worried” and 10 means “the most worried”. For example, today I put two worries into the box. I rate “losing my new bike” as a 2 and “getting bad grades in the maths exam” as a 7.
4. Talk it out
Be sure to make some time every day or week to talk about your worries with your parents. Together, you can find the ways to deal with them.

Passage 10
As a teenager, you are to go through many changes. Your body starts to grow quickly; school becomes more challenging with harder subjects and more homework. Maybe the biggest change is in your feelings. You might feel worried, unsure, stressed and upset.
The bad feelings may lead to mental (心理的) health problems. Therefore, it’s essential to pay attention to teenage development. Then, how can teenagers deal with the growing pains?
Speak up. Keeping your feelings to yourself is bad for your mental and physical health: So be brave to express what’s in your mind.
Self-care helps too. Try simple things like sitting quietly and focusing on your breathing for a few minutes. They can train your mind, helping you find a quiet, clear and strong space inside yourself.
Build your “superhero team”. You can receive support and help from it. Building a support team isn’t about having the most fans on social media, it’s about having people you can truly trust, like your family and friends.
Don’t forget the power of physical activity and hobbies. Joining a sports team, learning to cook, growing flowers and so on can be very helpful. It’s like a secret superpower that you can use when things get hard.
Beyond these easy self-help steps, outside support can’t be ignored (忽视). When parents discover there is something wrong with their children, they should offer a listening ear and a safe space. Schools can help by offering counseling (咨询) services, peer support groups and mental health education.

Passage 14
In today’s world, teamwork is an essential (必备的) skill that helps us achieve our goals. Whether in school, sports or future workplaces, working well with others can make a big difference. But what is teamwork?
Teamwork is the ability to work together towards the same goal. It includes communicating, sharing and respecting each other’s ideas. When we work together, we can combine (结合) our advantages and skills to solve problems.
For example, in a school project, each team member may have different abilities. One student may be good at writing while another student may be good at researching. By sharing tasks based on advantages of everyone, the team gets higher quality results. In this way, teamwork improves not only grades but also the learning experience.
In sports, teamwork is the key to success. A soccer team needs players to pass the ball, defend (防守) and score together. If they don’t work together, the team will lose. The members learn to trust and support each other, which helps them build strong relationships on the field.

I understand why you were angry with your teammate. A successful team needs everyone’s hard work. Next time in the same situation, try to talk with your team member. What’s more, always remember: think first. When filled with anger, you would say whatever comes to your mind. And you might hurt others.

话题2 人与自我—成长的苦与乐

Passage 9
Growing up is a journey full of pains and gains. For most teens, physical changes are the first sign of growth. Many boys get taller and their voices become deeper, while girls start to develop their bodies. These changes can make some teens feel shy or worried, but they are normal parts of growing up.
Besides physical changes, teens also face mental growth. They begin to think more independently and have their own opinions on many things. Sometimes this leads to arguments with parents or teachers, but it also means they are becoming more mature.
Another important gain in growth is learning to make friends. True friends can help teens get through hard times and share their joys. Many teens learn the meaning of loyalty and support from their friendships.
Every teen should embrace both the pains and gains of growing up, because they all help shape a better person.
1.What is the first sign of growth for most teens?
A.Mental changes. B.Physical changes.

Passage 13
Last month, our school held a group English speech competition. My class formed a team to take part in it. At first, our team was in trouble.
We chose the topic "The Power of Teamwork". We planned to write the speech together, but no one wanted to take the lead. Li Ming said he was busy with his math exam, and Wang Fang said she was not good at writing. Finally, I had to start the work alone, but I felt very stressed.
Then our English teacher, Miss Zhang, gave us some advice. She told us to divide the work according to our strengths. She said, "Li Ming is good at logic, so he can help organize the ideas. Wang Fang is good at speaking, so she can practice the presentation. And you are good at writing, so you can write the speech." We followed her advice.

In addition, teamwork can create a sense of belonging (归属感). When we work with others, we feel connected and valued. This connection can encourage us to do more. It also teaches us important life skills, like solving problems and helping others in trouble.

I know how it feels because I am on the basketball team. I think it was really bad when your team member did not try his best. You should tell him teamwork is important. If you play, play well.

I understand why you were angry with your teammate. A successful team needs everyone’s hard work. Next time in the same situation, try to talk with your team member. What’s more, always remember: think first. When filled with anger, you would say whatever comes to your mind. And you might hurt others.
