One day, she was talking to one of the truck drivers at the supermarket, and she got the idea to drive a truck herself. She went home and told her parents (my grandparents), and they thought it was a good idea.
Nancy’s journeys are different every day, and she goes to every part of the country. She enjoys the driving, but she says that one day, she wants to get a job with a different company so that she can drive to more places.
Nancy says she likes being out on the road, seeing new towns all the time, but the best thing about driving trucks for her is talking to everyone she sees during her working day. She also says the trucks are comfortable, so she doesn’t mind sleeping in them. For her, they are her home on wheels (轮子).
I asked my grandparents what they thought about Nancy’s job. They are happy that Nancy is happy, so they don’t want her to change her jobs. But they worry about her because it’s sometimes a dangerous job and she spends a lot of time away from home.

Cooking is fun, but sometimes accidents may happen. If you burn yourself, cut your finger, or pour out hot oil carelessly, don’t panic! Here are some things you should do when the accidents happen.
When you get burned by fire, hot oil, or steam, cool the burn at once under cold running water for 10-15 minutes. Then cover it with a clean cloth or bandage. Don’t use ice or butter! If the burn is serious, you’d better see a doctor at once. Don’t break the blisters (水泡) or touch them often; this can make the pain worse.
If you are cut by knives or sharp (锋利的) tools, wash the cut with clean water and soap. Press a clean cloth on it to stop bleeding. Then cover it with a bandage. If the cut is deep or won’t stop bleeding, go to the hospital. Don’t use alcohol (酒精) directly on deep cuts or touch them with a dirty hand.
If something in the pan catches fire, turn off the stove at once. Cover the pan with a metal lid (锅盖). Without oxygen (氧气), the fire will go out soon. If the fire becomes bigger or covers other things, leave the kitchen and call 119 as soon as possible. Do remember, don’t pour water on an oil fire or try to carry a burning pan outside.
To stay away from cooking accidents, we must always be careful when using knives or fire. Most cooking accidents are small if we treat them in the right way. Knowing these tips will help us stay safe in the kitchen!

Sometimes it seems that you’re not as close to your parents as before. 57 Closing the Gap written by American writer Jay McGraw teaches teenagers how to have a better relationship with parents.
The book gives ways to help children have a better understanding of their parents. When you think “My parents don’t want me to have any fun”, that usually means your parents want you to be safe. 58 You should tell your parents your needs and find out what their needs are. Then you can think of a way to make all of you happy. 59
·Make time to talk. You could talk about your school life and your plans for the future.
·Keep a diary. This is to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings.
· 60 Wash your own clothes and help around the house. Your parents will see you are no longer a small child.
If you follow these steps, you will break down the walls between your parents and you.

These days, the “dopamine (多巴胺) menu” is getting popular on the Internet. A dopamine menu is a list that you plan for yourself with activities to improve your body’s dopamine. Dopamine is a “feel-good” thing. It makes you happy and helps develop good habits. Doing things on your list is healthy for your mind and body. Here are some dopamine menu ideas.
Starters (前菜) — Think of short, quick activities that make you feel good right away. For example, you can dance to your favourite song or hold your pet in your arms as soon as you get back from work.
Mains (主菜) — The activities are those you can really get lost in, but they take more time. Try listening to the radio, cooking a lovely meal or going for a run.
Sides (配菜) — You can do these activities when you are doing chores. This might be listening to music while washing dishes, or leaving a friend a spoken message while making the bed.
Desserts (甜点) — On your dessert list, there’re activities that make you happy, but you should do them less often because they are not all that great. You might stay up late to watch your favourite TV show or play games on your phone.
Now try to write your dopamine menu. Enjoy using it and live a healthy and happy life!

Maybe you pride yourselves on only sleeping a few hours a night. However, are you feeling tired and sleepy during the day? Do you have a hard time keeping your eyes open as you study? Have you nodded your head off while driving? If you can answer “Yes” to any of these, it shows you could not have enough sleep.
It is suggested that most adults need seven to nine hours’ sleep. As for teenage students, they need even more. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, you should:
·Avoid caffeine (咖啡因).
You should avoid drinking caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea and soda for at least 10 hours before you go to bed.
·Don’t eat big meals before sleeping.
