Step 1 Lead-in (5 mins)
Activity: Show the unit opening picture. Ask the guiding questions: "Where is the woman? What is she doing?"
Students observe the picture and answer in simple English.
Introduce the unit topic: "Unit 2 Work to the Schedule. Today we will learn words about different schedules and discuss their importance."
To activate students’ visual perception, arouse interest in the unit theme and lead in the lesson naturally.
Step 2 Vocabulary & Listening Matching (15 mins)
Activity 1: Present the four expressions with textbook pictures: daily timetable, weekly timetable, shift schedule, project schedule.
Teacher reads each word, explains the meaning (e.g., shift schedule: work time arrangement by shifts; project schedule: time plan for project stages), and students repeat.
Activity 2: Play the audio for Warming up 1. Students listen and match the expressions with the pictures.
Play the audio again. Students check answers and explain the matching logic (e.g., the picture with team shift bars matches shift schedule).
To combine vocabulary learning with listening practice, helping students associate words with visual information and lay a vocabulary foundation.
Step 3 Group Discussion (15 mins)
Activity 1: Present the three discussion questions:
1. Why is it important to make a schedule?
2. How often do you make schedules?
3. What may prevent you from following your schedule?
Students work in groups of 4. Teacher provides sentence frames: "It is important to make a schedule because...", "Something may prevent me from following the schedule like...".
Activity 2: Invite 23 groups to share results. Teacher comments and supplements typical expressions (e.g., "lack of time", "sudden tasks").
To train students’ oral expression ability, let them apply new words to real life, and deepen understanding of schedule importance.
Step 4 Summary & Homework (5 mins)
Summary: Review the four schedule expressions and key discussion sentences.
Homework:
1. Copy the four expressions 3 times with Chinese meanings.
2. Write 2 sentences about why making a schedule is important.
