Procedure Design 步 骤 活 动 设 计 设计意图 Step 1 Lead-in (5 mins) Activity: Ask guiding questions: "What do you think you should do on your first day at work? Today we will read a passage about tips for the first day at work." Present the key words from the passage and ask students to guess what the passage is about. To arouse students’ interest in the reading topic and lead in the lesson. Step 2 Vocabulary Learning (10 mins) Activity 1: Present the key words and phrases with their Chinese meanings and example sentences: job offer: a formal invitation to work for a company; e.g., "She got a job offer from a big factory." dress appropriately: wear suitable clothes for work; e.g., "You should dress appropriately for your first day." knowall: someone who thinks they know everything; e.g., "Don’t act the knowall at work." Students read the words and phrases aloud after the teacher, then practice in pairs. To help students master the key vocabulary for the passage, reducing reading difficulty. Step 3 Reading Task 1: Fast Reading (5 mins) Activity: Students read the passage quickly and answer the question: "What is the main idea of the passage?" Check answers with the whole class. To develop students’ skimming ability and help them get the main idea of the passage. Step 4 Reading Task 2: Detailed Reading (15 mins) Activity 1: Students read the passage again and answer the two questions: 1. What should you wear on your first day at work? 2. What should you do if you have questions or need help? Activity 2: Students work in groups to summarize the four tips from the passage: 1. Don’t be late. 2. Dress appropriately. 3. Get to know your coworkers. 4. Ask for help, don’t act the knowall. Explain the passage sentence by sentence, focusing on the key expressions and the meaning of each tip. To help students understand the passage in detail, extract key information and develop their reading comprehension skills. Step 5 Summary and Homework (5 mins) Summary: The teacher leads students to review the key words, phrases and the four tips from the passage. Homework: 1. Copy the key words and phrases learned in this lesson. 2. Read the passage aloud 3 times and try to retell the four tips.
