Rainforests are important and amazing places on Earth. They are thick forests with heavy rainfall all year round. About half of the world’s plants and animals live in rainforests, so they are known as the “lungs of the Earth”.

Rainforests help control the weather. They take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen for humans and animals. Every living thing needs oxygen to live. Also, the plants and trees in rainforests provide food and homes for millions of animals, such as frogs, birds and monkeys.   Many kinds of food we eat, like bananas and coffee, come from these areas.

However, rainforests are now in great danger. People cut down large numbers of trees for farming and building houses. This destroys the living areas of animals and makes many kinds of them die out. If we lose rainforests, the weather will become worse, and more animals will disappear.

It is necessary for us to protect rainforests. We should plant more trees and stop cutting them down. Small actions can make a big difference. Protecting rainforests is protecting ourselves and our planet.
