1.The room is too dirty. It needs ________.
A.clean B.to clean C.cleaning D.cleaned
2.—Sir, you can’t park on either side of Zhongshan Road. Otherwise (否则), you ________.
—Sorry, I’m leaving. Thanks for telling me that.
A.was fined B.are fining C.will be fine D.will be fined
3.We took pride ________ ourselves when we finally reached the top of the mountain.
A.of B.to C.with D.in
take pride in=be proud of,都表示“为……感到自豪”,是固定搭配,用介词in。
4.Four students ________ to our school yesterday to experience the traditional Chinese tea-making process.
A.to be invited B.were invited C.were invented D.to be invented
主语是复数,所以be动词用were,invite的过去分词是invited,对应结构为were invited。
5.I don’t know ________ this difficult math problem. You can ask your teacher for help.
A.what to work out B.how to work out
C.when work out D.where work out
C、D项结构错误,缺少不定式符号to;句中“this difficult math problem”作“work out”的宾语,故不能用what,排除A;结合答语建议求助可知,此处指不知道解决的方法,应用how。故填how to work out。
6.—I’m really nervous before the exam.
—Take it easy. You’ll do well if you stay ________.
A.excited B.calm C.surprised D.interested
根据前句“nervous”及后句“Take it easy”可知,建议保持“冷静”,stay calm“保持冷静”,应填calm。
7.—Do you like Mrs. Yang’s English classes?
—Of course! She always uses different ________ to make her classes interesting, such as storytelling and group discussions.
A.tools B.methods C.materials D.expressions
根据“such as storytelling and group discussions”可知,讲故事和小组讨论是上课的方法,应填methods。
8.The school suggests the students should ________ what they have learnt about protecting the environment to their parents and neighbors.
A.take on B.keep on C.focus on D.pass on
take on承担;keep on继续;focus on集中于;pass on传递。“what they have learnt about protecting the environment to their parents and neighbors”强调将学到的知识传递给父母和邻居,应填pass on。
9.—Jim and Tom, please help ________ to some bread.
—Thank you.
A.himself B.yourself C.herself D.yourselves
10.—Do you get along well with Tina?
—Yes, we are good friends. But we seldom have anything _______. For example, she likes tidying up. Instead, I usually make a mess.
A.on show B.in order C.on duty D.in common
on show被展示、上演;in order按次序;on duty值班、值日;in common共同。根据“For example, she likes tidying up. Instead, I usually make a mess.”
11.—What do you think of the movie Ne Zha?
—It’s fantastic. I was really _______ by the strong will of Ne Zha.
A.turned down B.given up C.cheered up D.put down
turned down拒绝;given up放弃;cheered up (使) 振奋,(使) 鼓舞;put down放下。根据“It’s fantastic.” 应填cheered up。
12.—Jenny, have you decided what to do during the winter holiday?
—Not yet, I _______ volunteer at Hefei Science and Technology Museum.
A.may B.must C.should D.need
【答案】A
may可能;must必须;should应该;need需要。
13.After understanding ________ the teacher said, Jack answered the questions exactly.
A.that B.what C.when D.whether
14.________ Linda didn’t win the tennis match, she still wore a smile on her face and ran to hug other players after the match.
A.Unless B.Since C.Because D.Although
Unless除非;Since自从;Because因为;Although虽然。
15.— I’ve given up smoking already, darling.
— You should have taken the doctor’s advice years ago. ________, anyway.
A.It’s easier said than done B.Better late than never
C.No pain, no gain D.Well begun is half done
It’s easier said than done说起来容易做起来难;Better late than never亡羊补牢,迟做比不做好;No pain, no gain不劳无获;Well begun is half done好的开端是成功的一半。根据“You should have taken the doctor’s advice years ago. …, anyway.”

With their 23 , we finished the preparation in time.
The book fair was a big success. We raised 500 yuan and sent all the books and money to the mountain village. When I got a thank-you letter from the village kids, I felt so 24 and proud. I learned that facing difficulties, we shouldn’t 25 easily. 26 we work together, nothing is impossible.
This experience also taught me that being an organizer isn’t just about making plans. It’s about 27 with people and solving problems step by step. Now, I’m not the shy girl who is afraid of taking challenges anymore. I know that every small 28 can lead to a big change. 18.

When I was young, I lived in Scotland with my parents. I had a good time there.
One morning, I ran to the garden, and said to the old Scotsman who worked there, “Today I am going up the mountain for berries (莓).”
“No, no, Missy, not today,” he said. “It will rain.”
“No. It will not rain,” I said. “The sun is up. The cook says it will be fine. The glass in the hall does not say rain.”
“Tuts, tuts,” said the old man. “I care for no suns, or cooks, or glasses. The pimpernel (报春花) says it will rain, and so it will rain.Flowers, Missy, always tell the truth. When they say rain, go and get your umbrella.”
Sure enough, by noon the rain was pouring down. After that, I looked with great respect at the tiny flower, sometimes brick red, sometimes blue, which could tell about the weather. But the pimpernel is not the only plant that is a weather prophet.
If you go into the garden, and find the African marigolds (万寿菊) shut after seven o’ clock in the morning, you may be pretty sure that there will be a rainy day. There is a little single marigold which shuts up in a hurry if the sky becomes cloudy. It is called the“rainy-marigold”.
Most plants which we call “weather prophets” shut up for rain. But some plants open for rain. The cause of the opening and closing is probably the difference in light. Most likely these plants shut their flowers because there is too little light.
But you know there are some plants which become smaller in a strong light and love the shade. You will find that most shade-loving plants, such as the verbenas (马鞭草), do not close for rain.
Lilies (百合花), tulips (郁金香) and other flowers that love the sun shut for rain. Tulips are careful not to open their cups very wide in the morning if it is likely to rain. The roses make no change. They seem not to fear wet.
On the whole, you may be pretty sure, if you go into your garden, and find many flowers—such as tulips, marigolds and morning glories—shut, it will be a stormy day, unfit for picnics or long walks.
34.How did the old Scotsman know it would be rainy that day?
A.By watching the sun. B.By listening to the weather report.
C.By watching the pimpernel. D.The cook told him.
35.The plants which are“weather prophets” ________.
A.become smaller in a strong light B.tell about the weather
C.open for rain and fear light D.love shade and wet
36.What do we know from the passage?
A.The flowers have four ways to help people to get information about weather.
B.The glass in the hall has magic for the writer's family to know about weather.
C.We can know about weather by keeping many roses at home or in the garden.
D.Maybe Missy will know about weather by watching flowers from now on.
37.The passage is mainly about ________.
A.watching flowers carefully before going out
B.learning to watch flowers from the old Scotsman
C.the importance of growing flowers in the garden
D.the relationship between some flowers and weather

What’s it like to have a cat as the headmaster of a kindergarten? It sounds crazy, but it is a real thing happening in Shenzhen.
The cat is now a superstar at Caitian Kindergarten. It has its own “office” and “mailbox”. Its photos have also been posted in corners of the kindergarten.
The story began almost two years ago when a homeless cat entered the kindergarten one January morning in 2021. The teachers discovered the cat in poor health, and they took care of it. After the cat got well, the teachers wondered about the next step-should they let the cat go?
It was a hard decision for them, as both teachers and children had fallen in love with the cat. For this, they held a vote (投票) to decide on the cat’s life. Most of them wanted it to stay and some even suggested “hiring”(聘用),it as a headmaster. “It was an interesting idea. An ‘inauguration’(就职典礼) was held for the cat immediately, and we gave it a new name — Xiaocai,” said a teacher.
Xiaocai has a busy timetable every day, meeting its fans and receiving letters. Some fans were also surprised to receive “replies” from the “headmaster” when they shared their secrets with it.

Seagrass, an underwater plant that grows on the ocean floor, is very important for sea life. It also helps prevent global warming by storing carbon dioxide, a harmful gas. However, scientists don’t know exactly how much seagrass is at the bottom of the ocean. With the help of tiger sharks, a team of researchers has discovered the world’s largest seagrass meadow (grassland) on the seafloor near the Bahamas.
Seagrass meadows are home to many different kinds of fish, shellfish, and so on. Large sea animals, such as sharks, also spend a lot of time there looking for food. Seagrass can grow in very deep and dark waters, making it difficult to find. But sharks can dive deep into the water and get to the areas people cannot reach.
After noticing tiger sharks swimming through seagrass off the Bahamas, an American scientist worked with a seagrass expert, trying to map the locations of the plants. The researchers fitted seven tiger sharks with cameras. Since tiger sharks swim in groups, they placed satellite tracking tags (卫星跟踪器) on eight other sharks to find out exactly where the animals swam. They collected hours of videos of the tiger sharks swimming through seagrass.
The researchers found more seagrass growing near the Bahamas than they expected—in fact, they believe that there is more seagrass there than anywhere else on Earth. The new finding increased the total amount of seagrass known to exist by 41%. However, more research is needed to discover the true size of the seagrass meadow.
Scientists often depend on findings from divers and boats to study about the underwater world, but this team found that working with animals improved their understanding. They are now placing cameras on sea turtles to study seagrass in the Red Sea. Hopefully, more mysteries about seagrass will be solved.
42.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To explain how seagrass stops global warming completely.
B.To introduce the value of seagrass and a breakthrough in its study.
C.To show that scientists have fully known about seagrass distribution.
D.To compare the importance of seagrass and tiger sharks.
43.Why did the researchers choose tiger sharks to help study seagrass?
A.They can reach deep areas where seagrass may grow.
B.They are the most common sea animals near the Bahamas.
C.They feed mainly on seagrass and stay around it all the time.
D.They are easy to catch and fit with cameras.
44.Which of the following is TRUE about the research process?
A.The researchers fitted cameras and satellite tags on the same 7 sharks.
B.The team worked with divers and boat researchers to collect data.
C.Satellite tracking tags helped locate the groups of tiger sharks.
D.The researchers spent hours swimming with tiger sharks to shoot videos.
45.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The traditional way of studying underwater life is useless now.
B.The true size of the Bahamas seagrass meadow hasn’t been determined yet.
C.Sea turtles will replace tiger sharks as the main research tool in the future.
D.Seagrass in the Red Sea is more difficult to study than that near the Bahamas.

In China, the horse carries many positive meanings, such as smart and energetic, and we can see them in Chinese idioms. For example, a talented person is often called “qianlima”, a horse that covers a thousand li a day. And someone who is good at finding talent is referred to as “bole”, a person who could tell a good horse by its looks in ancient China. Other horse-related phrases in Chinese include “madaochenggong”, which means instant success and “longmajingshen”, which means full of energy.
Horses are also said to have powerful brains with “excellent memories”, according to Discovery News. Maybe that’s why a Chinese idiom goes: “An old horse knows the way.”

范文①
As we grow older, we have changed a lot. My teacher, Mr. Liu, helped me most during my growth.
I used to be very shy and afraid to speak in public. Whenever there was a chance to show myself, I would back off. Mr. Liu noticed my problem. He encouraged me to take part in a speech competition. He spent a lot of time helping me prepare the speech, correcting my pronunciation and guiding me on how to express myself better. With his help, I finally overcame my fear and gave a wonderful speech.
Since then, I have become more confident. I’m no longer afraid to speak in front of others and even actively join in activities. Mr. Liu’s help has really made a big difference in my growth.
范文②
As we grow older, we have changed a lot. Before last term, I’d always wait until the last minute to finish homework. My change started when our group was asked to make a class play in two weeks.
At first, I did nothing, thinking my group members would help me. But on the fifth day, our group leader talked to me seriously: “Time won’t wait for anyone. If we don’t plan well, we’ll fail.” Her words woke me up and I began to make a simple daily plan. Finally, our group’s play earned praise from the class.
Now, I know managing time well helps me have more free time and do things better. This change teaches me that good habits are the key to a balanced life.

Horses are also said to have powerful brains with “excellent memories”, according to Discovery News. Maybe that’s why a Chinese idiom goes: “An old horse knows the way.”

The idea of chivalry helped to shape the 19th-century image of the “gentleman”, which was known for good manners, courage and loyalty (忠诚) to friends.
