As a girl, I volunteered at animal shelters, played music at nursing homes, and helped with community cleanup after disasters. In college, I volunteered heavily at a large yearly conference for young adults, which is where I fell in love with my husband-to-be, who was on my team of co-volunteers. Since getting married in 2013, we’ve been living in Beirut, Lebanon. I actually have an online coaching business but I’ve had many opportunities to volunteer with projects for Syrian refugees (难民) and youth education. I enjoy volunteering because most of the time, I do feel that I’m making a difference. Once I was leading out a project that provided food boxes to Syrian refugee families. When it was nearing Ramadan, the biggest holiday season in Islam, I literally stuffed the food package with extra treats...dates, nuts, olive oil and sweets. We took the package unannounced and ended up arriving just as the Syrian family was sitting down on their floor for breakfast. They had nothing more than a few pieces of bread and a pot of tea. The mother was in tears as she received us. I’ll never forget their gratitude. Another time, back when I was in college in the US, a group of friends and I volunteered to drive to a distant church that was way out in the suburb and had only a few elderly members. The building was in disrepair and the churchyard needed attention. We stayed the weekend in the home of one of these old ladies so we could clean and repair the church. I’ll never forget how new life sparkled in her eyes. She couldn’t repair broken doors or pull weeds, but her love for us was unmatched. It breaks my heart to remember this old lady’s broad smile for such small efforts that we made. Sometimes, volunteer work is fulfilling not because of the actual job you get done, but because of how your presence impacts the people around you. Volunteering makes me a better person because it gets me outside of myself. It puts my focus on others. It makes me grateful for what I have. 41. In writing Paragraph 1, the author aims to . A. provide an explanation B. introduce a topic C. reach a conclusion D. propose a definition 42. What does Paragraph 2 focus on? A. We brought food to Syrian families. B. Ramadan is the most important holiday season in Islam. C. Volunteering affects people in some way. D. Volunteering reminds Eckert of people’s gratitude. 43. Why was the old lady happy? A. Because finally someone came to comfort them in the church. B. Because she could clean and repair the church with us. C. Because of our presence and help. D. Because we made efforts to entertain her. 44. What is the author’s attitude towards volunteering? A. Critical. B. Objective. C. Indifferent. D. Positive. 45. What is the best title of the passage? A. What volunteering means to me. B. My volunteering dream. C. My efforts as a volunteer. D. Volunteering for Syrian refugees. 41. B 42. C 43. C 44. D 45. I’ll never forget their gratitude.(这位母亲在接待我们时泪流满面。 根据第三段“It breaks my heart to remember this old lady’s broad smile for such small efforts that we made.(想起这位老太太为我们所做的小小的努力而灿烂的笑容,我的心都碎了。)” 根据最后一段“Volunteering makes me a better person because it gets me outside of myself. It puts my focus on others. It makes me grateful for what I have.(志愿活动让我成为一个更好的人,因为它让我走出自我。 根据第二段第一句“I enjoy volunteering because most of the time, I do feel that I’m making a difference.(我喜欢做志愿者,因为大多数时候,我确实觉得自己在发挥作用。)”,第三段最后一句“Sometimes, volunteer work is fulfilling not because of the actual job you get done, but because of how your presence impacts the people around you.(有时候,志愿者工作的满足感并不是因为你完成了实际的工作,而是因为你的存在如何影响你周围的人。)”和最后一段“Volunteering makes me a better person because it gets me outside of myself. It puts my focus on others. It makes me grateful for what I have.(志愿活动让我成为一个更好的人,因为它让我走出自我。 故选A。 方法规律提炼题:请写出43题答题依据((3分) __________________________________________________________________________ C Every one of us may have been hurt by others—either by their words or actions. The best way to deal with the problem is to “forgive and forget”. “It is well established that learning to forgive others can have positive benefits for one’s physical and mental health,” Saima Noreen, a scientist at the University of St. Andrews, UK, told the Huffington Post. Recently, Noreen and her research team have found one more reason that you should stick to this principle—forgiving somebody who has hurt you makes it easier for you to forget the unhappy memory, according to their new study. In the study, researchers asked volunteers to read descriptions of 40 different situations that contained bad actions such as stealing, lying and cheating. Imagining being the victims (受害者), volunteers then had to decide whether they would be able to forgive. Two weeks later, volunteers took part in a memory test. In the test, they were shown a series of words related to the situations they had read about and then were asked to recall certain ones. The results showed that people were less likely to remember the details of the unpleasant experiences if they had found forgiveness in their hearts. In contrast, if they hadn’t forgiven the mistake, they could always remember what had happened. However, forgiving someone who has hurt you is always easier said than done. So Noreen hopes that one day in the near future research will give rise to powerful therapeutic (有疗效的) tools that will enable people to “forgive and forget” more effectively. 46. According to the passage, Saima Noreen is ________. A. a reporter of Huffington B. a scientist from UK C. a student at a university D. a volunteer in the test 47. What have Noreen and her team found recently? A. Forgiving helps us to forget unhappy memories. B. They have found no reason to hurt other people. C. A memory test is necessary to help people forgive. D. An unpleasant experience can be easily forgotten. 48. The right order of the following steps of the study should be ________. a. Take a memory test. b. Imagine being a victim. c. Decide whether to forgive or not. d. Read descriptions of 40 different situations. A. d→b→a→c B. a→b→d→c C. a→d→b→c D. d→b→c→a 49. What does the underlined word “recall” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Translate. B. Choose. C. Remember. D. Explain. 50. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. It’s impossible to forgive someone. B. Noreen has finished her research report. C. The therapeutic tools have been invented. D. There may be some therapeutic tools soon. B 47. A 48. D 49. C 50. 分析第二段中的““It is well established that learning to forgive others can have positive benefits for one’s physical and mental health,” Saima Noreen, a scientist at the University of St. Andrews, UK, told the Huffington Post.(“众所周知,学会原谅他人可以对一个人的身心健康产生积极的好处,”英国圣安德鲁斯大学的科学家Saima Noreen告诉赫芬顿邮报)”可知,Saima Noreen后面的内容为其同位语,所以Saima Noreen应是科学家。 根据第三段中的“Recently, Noreen and her research team have found one more reason that you should stick to this principle—forgiving somebody who has hurt you makes it easier for you to forget the unhappy memory, according to their new study.(最近,Noreen和她的研究团队发现了另一个你应该坚持这个原则的理由 - 根据他们的新研究,原谅伤害过你的人会让你更容易忘记不快乐的记忆)”可知,研究发现,宽恕伤害过你的人使你更容易忘记不快乐记忆,所以,宽恕帮助我们忘记不快乐的记忆。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“In the study, researchers asked volunteers to read descriptions of 40 different situations that contained bad actions such as stealing, lying and cheating. Imagining being the victims (受害者), volunteers then had to decide whether they would be able to forgive. Two weeks later, volunteers took part in a memory test.(在这项研究中,研究人员要求志愿者阅读40种不同情况的描述,这些情况包含偷窃,撒谎和作弊等不良行为。 根据第四段中的“Two weeks later, volunteers took part in a memory test.(两周后,志愿者参加了记忆测试。)”可知,两周后要参加记忆测试,结合“In the test, they were shown a series of words related to the situations they had read about and then were asked to recall certain ones.(在测试中,他们被展示了一系列与他们所读到的情况相关的单词,然后被要求回忆某些单词)”的内容可知,划线单词所在的句子表述的是“记忆测试”的细节,故划线单词可猜测为“记忆,记住”的意思。 根据最后一段中的“So Noreen hopes that one day in the near future research will give rise to powerful therapeutic (有疗效的) tools that will enable people to “forgive and forget” more effectively.(因此,诺琳希望在不久的将来的某一天,研究将产生强大的治疗工具,使人们能够更有效地“原谅和忘记”)”可知,Noreen希望在将来能有一种强大的治疗工具可以帮助人们更高效地“宽恕和忘记”,由此可推断,在未来很可能会出现治疗工具。 Papa, as a son of a dirt-poor farmer, left school early and went to work in a factory, for education was for the rich then. So, he was determined that none of his children would be denied (拒绝) an education. Thus, Papa insisted that we learn at least one new thing each day. And dinner time seemed perfect for sharing what we had learned. We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how insignificant, it was never taken lightly. Papa would listen carefully and was ready with some comment, always to the point. Then came the moment—the time to share the day’s new learning. Papa, at the head of the table, would push back his chair and pour a glass of red wine, ready to listen. “Felice,” he’d say, “tell me what you learned today.” “I learned that the population of Nepal is ....” Silence. Papa was thinking about what was said, as if the salvation (拯救) of the world would depend upon it. “The population of Nepal. Hmm. Well….” he’d say. “Get the map; let’s see where Nepal is.” And the whole family went on a search for Nepal. This same experience was repeated until each family member had a turn. Dinner ended only after we had a clear understanding of at least half a dozen such facts. As children, we thought very little about these educational wonders. Our family, however, was growing together, sharing experiences and participating in one another’s education. And by looking at us, listening to us, respecting our input, affirming (肯定) our value, giving us a sense of dignity, Papa was unquestionably our most influential teacher. Later during my training as a future teacher, I studied with some of the most famous educators. They were imparting (传授) what Papa had known all along—the value of continual learning. His technique has served me well all my life. 51. What did the author’s father think of his children’s education? (no more than 10 words) 52. What does the underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refer to? (no more than 2 words) 53. What did the author and his papa talk about at dinner time? (no more than 15 words) 54. What has served the author well all his life? (no more than 8 words) 55. What do you think of the author’s father? (no more than 15 words) 【答案】51. Papa would let all his children get an education. 52. The news. 53. The author talked with his papa about what he had learnt in a day. 54. The value of continual learning. 55. The author’s father was a good parent insistent on his children’s education. 由第一段最后一句“So, he was determined that none of his children would be denied (拒绝) an education.” Papa would let all his children get an education. 由第二段中的句子“We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how insignificant, it was never taken lightly.” 由第四段中的句子“tell me what you learned today.”告诉我你今天学了什么、后面有关当日所学尼泊尔知识的探讨和倒数第三段中的句子“Dinner ended only after we had a clear understanding of at least half a dozen such facts.” The author talked with his papa about what he had learnt in a day. 由最后一段中的“They were imparting (传授) what Papa had known all along—the value of continual learning. His technique has served me well all my life.”可知,爸爸一直传授的the value of continual learning(持续学习的价值),这项技能使作者终生受益,所以是the value of continual learning。 The value of continual learning. 由由第一段最后一句“So, he was determined that none of his children would be denied (拒绝) an education.” 和最后一段中的“They were imparting (传授) what Papa had known all along—the value of continual learning. His technique has served me well all my life.” The author’s father was a good parent insistent on his children’s education. 如在第2小题中,猜测it的指代意义,由第二段中的句子“We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how insignificant, it was never taken lightly.” B My name is Jaimic Eckert and I’ve been into volunteer work since childhood. 方法规律提炼题:请写出43题答题依据((3分) __________________________________________________________________________ C Every one of us may have been hurt by others—either by their words or actions. B Noreen has finished her research report. C. The therapeutic tools have been invented. D. There may be some therapeutic tools soon. Papa, as a son of a dirt-poor farmer, left school early and went to work in a factory, for education was for the rich then.
