【答案】14. B 15. C 16. C
【解析】
【原文】M: Now, Linda, let’s talk about your first job.
W: Well, I was an assistant in an expensive cake shop in the small town where I lived. My boss was always polite, never shouted at us, even when we dropped things, and that was good for a young woman like me who wasn’t very confident. He knew everything about the business. I had no proper training, but it was a good experience working for someone with so much knowledge. He didn’t pay us well, but I didn’t expect to earn much in my first job.
M: Did you do any of the baking yourself?
W: There were two cooks who were specialists in making cakes for celebrations. I loved watching them at work, but I wasn’t allowed to touch the ones on display in the windows. We sold sandwiches at lunchtime — again, very expensive ones, and the shop assistants had to make those.
M: How did you get on with the other shop assistants?
W: One of them was my best friend, which was great, but the full-time staff sometimes treated us badly because we couldn’t cook. But I was surprised that the full-time assistants couldn’t add up in their head. I was good at it, but they used calculators if there was anything difficult to work out.

【原文】W: Welcome to the International Language College. It’s a beautiful place that is well worth visiting in this city. As you can see there are a lot of buildings in the college. As new students, you might find it difficult to find your way in the college, so we will take you on a quick tour. The college used to have four departments: English, French, German and Russian, but now there is a Chinese department as well and we are going to set up a Spanish department next year. At the moment we’re outside your department, the English department. Compared with other departments, it is the largest department in the college. In the English department there are over 200 students, 30 students in each class. We have 50 teachers, including 20 professors in this department. The teachers are all from different countries, mainly from the U.S.A. and Australia, with a few from England and Canada. All of your classes will be here in this building. In the French department, there are over 150 students, and 40 teachers mainly from France and Canada. In the Russian department, we have more than 120 students, and 28 teachers from Russia and Ukraine. Now, let’s walk over to the main library which is the largest building in the college and is just next to the English department building. But I must remind you that this tour doesn’t include a visit to the reading rooms. I’m afraid we don’t do visits on any weekday during working hours, so as not to disturb the readers. If you do want to see these rooms, the only day there are tours is on Sundays. That’s to say, you can visit them the day after tomorrow.

Britain is a land of stunning landscapes and rich heritage — from the Lake District’s peaks and lakes to iconic bridges, from lakeside poets’ romance to Shakespeare’s genius and the Enlightenment’s (启蒙运动) glow. In this series, we spotlight four renowned landmarks to uncover their stories.
The Lake District
The Lake District is England’s largest National Park. Stretching across the North-West, it’s home to the nation’s highest mountains and deepest lakes. This district is very famous for its food. There are seven Michelin-Starred restaurants. Besides, cosy, traditional and hearty pubs are plentiful in the popular towns. The romance and charm of the lakes have inspired many lake poets in their creativity.
The Roman Baths
The Roman Baths are one of the finest examples of preserved ancient thermal spa in the world, and the only official hot spring in Britain. During the Roman Invasion in 50 CE, they dedicated the spring to a healing goddess. Rich or poor, they thought this spring would rid their illness and disease, believing it to be blessed by the Goddesses.
Westminster Palace and Big Ben
The most iconic architectural structures of not only London but the whole of the UK are Westminster Palace and Big Ben. It was originally built as a royal palace about 1000 years ago. During Henry VIII’s reign, he gave it over to parliament. Big Ben has enormous cultural significance for Britain. Its clock rings are broadcast on television every New Year’s Eve to count down and welcome the New Year.
Stonehenge
Stonehenge is the most famous prehistoric monument. It was built 5000 years ago as a ditch and now surrounds the stones. In the 1960s, an astronomer theorized that it might be a calendar since you could see the perfect view of the summer sunrise hitting the stones. People will not fully understand it until bathed in its remarkable mystery.
21. What can visitors do during the tour?
A. Enjoy a drink in the Lake District. B. Listen to the church bells on Christmas day.
C. Get rid of diseases in the Roman Baths. D. Uncover all the mysteries behind Stonehenge.
22. Which landmark is recommended for astronomy fans?
A. The Lake District. B. The Roman Baths.
C. Westminster Palace and Big Ben. D. Stonehenge.
23. What do the four places have in common?
A. Each of them carries a long and rich history. B. Each of them boasts its natural wonders.
C. They are the most celebrated scenery in Britain. D. They are all British architectural heritage.

Chinese tourist attractions have seen a roaring travel boom (繁荣) this month as millions of primary and middle school students hit the road for their first-ever autumn holiday. Several provinces, including eastern Zhejiang, southwestern Sichuan and southern Guangdong, have implemented a three-day autumn break in November. Combined with the weekend, the vacation totals five days — a novel measure in China but widely adopted in Western countries.
These provinces are the first to follow a new guideline issued in September by nine central government departments, including the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Education: The guideline encourages localities to adjust academic calendars to include spring and autumn breaks, with decisions based on factors like each province’s unique climate and industry production schedules, a major determining factor for parents to take time off work.
Apart from better distributing the school calendar to ease students’ academic burden, the policy also aims to stoke domestic economic consumption, especially via the tourism industry. Data from online travel agency Trip shows that tourism bookings in Zhejiang, where the new autumn break kicked off on Nov. 12, had doubled compared to last year, with parent-child trips accounting for 46% of the total bookings.
As well as providing much-needed holidays for children, the policy has been paired with supportive measures for family travel, noted Yang Han, a researcher at online travel platform Qunar, in an interview with local media. These measures include flexible work leave policies for parents and discounted family tickets at museums, science centers and scenic spots.
Amid the travel boom, trips themed around textbook featured locations — ranging from time-honored historical sites to breathtaking natural attractions — are emerging as a top choice for families. More and more parents are seeking inspiration for trips that extend children’s learning beyond the classroom walls, making education and leisure go hand in hand.
24. What can we learn about the autumn break in paragraph 1?

C
I love the way clouds roll above your head, wander lazily across blue skies and cast momentary shadows on the ground below. These ever-floating sculptures of vapor and light are among nature’s least appreciated wonders. That’s why 20 years ago I started the Cloud Appreciation Society to remind people to look up. Now climate science is catching up, revealing that clouds aren’t just poetic; they’re vital in helping to regulate Earth’s temperature. The mix of cloud types over our planet ensures they have an overall cooling effect because the shade from the low clouds outweighs the warming effect of the high ones.
These clouds don’t just look different from one another; they also have very different effects on temperatures at the surface of the land or water below. These differences have to do with how much of the sun’s heat they allow through and how much of Earth’s heat they trap in. But it’s unclear how clouds will change in a warming climate. With an atmosphere as vast as ours, there is insufficient empirical data. For now, climate scientists can only make informed guesses, based on ever more complicated computer models. As global temperatures rise, scientists believe we may see fewer of the low, cooling clouds but not of the high, warming ones. It would be a classic feedback loop that speeds up the very warming that triggered it.
There’s a role for citizen science to improve the analysis of clouds and their role in global warming. We at the Cloud Appreciation Society will be inviting the public to use our CloudSpotter app to interpret the cloud types in satellite images. The data should enable us to train artificial intelligence models to search through the vast library of satellite cloud images to reveal with greater clarity and precision the gradual trends in Earth’s shifting cloud cover. If clouds are changing, then so should the way we study them. This renaissance (复兴) won’t happen on its own. It requires all of us to look up — and take notice.
28. What does the author think of the clouds above his head?
A. He often speaks highly of clouds. B. He considers the clouds only to be poetic.
C. He assumes clouds shouldn’t be taken for granted. D. He loves them so much as to set up a cloud society.
29. How does the CloudSpotter app contribute to climate science?
A. By providing sufficient data. B. By replacing super computer models.
C. By offering live weather forecasts. D. By increasing low-cloud feedback loops.
30. What does the author indicate in the last paragraph?
A. Citizens should sign up for the Cloud Appreciation Society.
B. Better results can be gained via joint efforts from the public.
C. Everyone should make it a habit to observe clouds above head.
D. Better clarity and accuracy of the shifting cloud cover have been gained.
31. Where is probably the text taken from?
A. A government report. B. A science magazine. C. A geography textbook. D. A travel guidebook.
【答案】28. C 29. A 30. B 31. B

DeepSeek, a large language model developed in China, is a landmark in AI development. Unlike earlier AI models, DeepSeek is both high-performing and accessible. Its open-source model has created new opportunities across sectors (行业), including in governance.
Work that once took civil servants days to complete can now be done in a matter of minutes. This leap in productivity has not only increased efficiency, it has also reduced operational costs and enhanced openness. For example, in Shenzhen, 70 AI-powered “civil servants” have been employed in different government departments to assist with tasks such as drafting official documents and responding to public inquiries. In the U.S., a group of technicians and engineers discovered an evident flaw in welfare records: a 300-year-old was still receiving benefits.
As AI becomes increasingly intelligent, does it mean we no longer need flesh-and-blood civil servants? Not quite.
While AI will undoubtedly reduce the size of the public workforce, humans will continue to play crucial roles — as supervisors, ethical stewards and final deciders in complex decisions. Although AI can monitor, analyze and optimize (优化) public spending in real time, official committees will be needed to ensure that algorithmic (算法) decisions remain in line with ethical standards and do not disadvantage weak populations. To safeguard public interest, governments must establish ethics committees to inspect AI systems, revise regulatory frameworks, and ensure openness.
But no revolution comes without chaos. As AI assumes many traditional civil service roles, mass job displacement could cause deep social anxiety. Questions, such as “Am I still useful if a machine can do my job?”, will become increasingly common. Governments must be prepared to ease this social fallout by investing in mental health services, job retraining programs and welfare support.
In sum, AI in government is not just a matter of automation; it’s about revolutionizing governance itself. If done right, an AI-powered state can more fairly and quickly fulfill citizens’ needs. But to get there, we need to strike a balance between efficiency and ethics, innovation and inclusion.
32. Why does the author mention two examples in paragraph 2?
A. To show AI’s wide application. B. To demonstrate AI’s existence.
C. To highlight traditional problems. D. To prove AI’s role in civil service.
33. What role will humans play in the use of AI in the public sector?
A. Developing new AI technologies. B. Replacing most public workforce jobs.
C. Supervising and ensuring ethical standards. D. Designing algorithms for real-time optimization.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards AI replacing human civil servants?
A. Unclear. B. Cautious. C. Pessimistic. D. Optimistic.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Importance of AI in Modern Government
B. How will AI Replace Humans in Government?
C. Can AI Replace Civil Servants in Government?
D. The Role of Human Management in Government.
【答案】32. D 33. C 34. B 35. C

We’ve all experienced it: the urge to withdraw and duck experiences we know we’ll enjoy — even when a mood boost is what we need most. ____36____ They just don’t seem worth the effort. And then, more likely than not, we feel worse than we did before.
So how do you find the motivation to get out there, especially when you’re feeling low, stressed, tired or lonely? ____37____ Our drive to seek out happiness is a muscle that we can develop. To raise your reward sensitivity, you can try one exercise. Begin by planning one activity per day that will make you happy or give you a sense of accomplishment.
Be realistic. ____38____ After you’ve enjoyed that daily moment, close your eyes and recount out loud, in the present tense, where and when you experienced the greatest joy. Home in on details and physical sensations, like the breeze cooling your face as the sun shines.
____39____ Many of us struggle to label our positive emotions much beyond fine, good or great. But research suggests that finding more words to describe those feelings can validate and intensify them, Dr. Meuret said. When reflecting on how something made you feel, try to be precise, using words like delighted, inspired.
Share your highlight reel. Think about the details you typically volunteer when asked about your day or a recent trip. Broadcasting what made you happiest can make you feel better, spread that happiness to another person and also strengthen a bond.
Find silver linings. ____40____ For example, if you invited co-workers to get together and only one person showed up, you could easily view that as a failure. But the silver lining, he said, would be that you got to know that one person better.
Keep in mind, too, that it’s normal to sometimes feel uncomfortable with pleasurable feelings, particularly if you experience depression and anxiety. The truth is that we need to behave like happy people if we actually want to be happy.

In a small village in southern Turkey, 14-year-old Emre’s life changed forever when an earthquake struck in the middle of the night, reducing most of the village to ground zero, including the tiny library that had been Emre’s favorite place. He had spent countless afternoons there, reading adventure books and helping the librarian, Mr. Kaya, organize shelves.
In the days after the disaster, Emre wandered around, his heart heavy. He found the whole village in despair — the villagers wandered lifelessly among the ruins, their eyes empty of hope. When he reached the library site, he spotted a few books half-buried in the dust. He carefully brushed them clean and took them back home. That night, he had a dream: He was sitting in the library, surrounded by books, with Mr. Kaya smiling at him.
The next morning, Emre told his mother he wanted to rebuild the library. She looked at him sadly. “We barely have a roof over our heads, Emre,” she said, “How can we build a library?” But Emre refused to give up. Deep down, he knew his mission wasn’t just to rebuild a library — it was to give the village back its spirit, to turn their hopelessness into purpose. He went door to door, asking villagers if they had any books to donate. At first, no one believed a 14-year-old could change anything. They sighed, “The library is gone forever, just like our old lives.” “We need something to hold onto, more than ever!” he responded gently. “The library isn’t just wood and paper — it’s us, together again.” Emre’s earnestness eventually won them over. An elderly woman gave him a collection of poetry her husband had loved; a teacher donated a series of children’s storybooks.
Having heard about Emre’s plan, Mr. Kaya visited the boy, bringing the key to the old library. He put it into Emre’s hand, saying, “It’s yours now.” With Mr. Kaya’s guidance, Emre chose a small, undamaged room in the village square to act as the new library.

1.续写词数应为150左右;

【答案】例文
Paragraph 1:
News of Emre’s project spread across the whole village. More books began to pour in. Before long, he gathered enough for the room to be called a library. All the villagers started offering help: some brought tools; others volunteered to clear up; a carpenter built sturdy shelves for free; some girls hung colorful lanterns and placed a small flower pot by the door; Emre and his best friends spent weekends sorting books and painting the walls. The small room soon buzzed with life, chasing away the village’s despair.
Paragraph 2:
After three months of hard work, the village library reopened. The opening day was filled with joy. Children sat on the floor reading, while adults chatted and flipped through books. The laughter that day was the first genuine joy the village had felt since the earthquake. Emre looked around at the people enjoying the new library. He didn’t have grand words to explain why this little room mattered, but he knew it did. It was where his village came alive again and a symbol of hope and proof that unity and hopefulness can rebuild what’s lost.

A. It was proposed by middle school students.
B. It is common in the West but new in China.
C. It is a five-day standalone November break.
D. It has been carried out in all Chinese provinces.
25. Why are industry production schedules important for this policy?
A. They reflect the unique climate of each province.
B. They directly affect students’ academic performance.
C. They are closely related to local tourism development.
D. They determine whether parents can take time off work.
26. What does the underlined word “stoke” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Control. B. Fuel. C. Evaluate. D. Weaken.
27. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Autumn break policy promotes travel boom.
B. Measures drive the booming tourism industry.
C. Textbook-themed trips are a new choice for families.
D. Western holiday ideas are influencing Chinese education.

D
