阅读理解 A A documentary (纪录片) about Du Fu, a great Chinese poet, has caught the attention of many people. It was produced by a British director named Michael Wood. It seemed impossible to show the life of the Sage of Poetry (诗圣) in a one-hour documentary and make sure foreign audience could get the culture and spirit of the East. But Michael Wood did it. More works, such as The Story of China, The Story of China's Reform and Opening Up, have not only touched many in the West, but also been accepted and appreciated by Chinese audience. In Wood's view, there are already plenty of works about China's rapid economic growth, but many in the West want to know more about its history and culture. He wishes his documentaries can reach the viewers' hearts. To make it as objective and truthful as possible, Wood reached out to many Chinese people who were kind and warm-hearted. Wood recalled that in Shexian County in Anhui Province, a shopkeeper took them around to see the beautiful scenery and helped them with shooting and recording, which left him a deep impression. Wood's documentaries are full of his love for the Chinese culture, and he managed to pass on that to his audience with different culture experiences. 1.What do we know about the documentary about Du Fu? A.It was Wood's first work about China. B.It was produced by an American director. C.It shows the life of a famous Chinese poet. D.It tells us economic development in China. 根据第二段中的“It seemed impossible ...Michael Wood did it.” C。 2.According to Wood, what do western people want to know more about China? A.History. B.Scenery. C.Tourism. D.Education. 根据第三段中的“In Wood's view ...history and culture.” A。 3.Why did Wood recall his experience in Shexian County? A.To promote the beautiful scenery in the country. B.To show Chinese people's kindness and warmth. C.To tell us how difficult it was to create the work. D.To make his documentary popular and interesting. 根据第四段中的“To make it as objective and truthful as possible, Wood reached out to many Chinese people who were kind and warm-hearted.” B。 4.What's the best title for the passage? A.The Life Story of Michael Wood B.Western Audience's New Interests C.China's Rapid Economic Development D.Michael Wood and His Documentaries 解析:选D 标题归纳题。 D。 B One side effect of globalization and the related phenomenon of greatly increased mobility (流动性) is that the_traditional_definition_of_“foreigner”_has_passed_its_“best-before_date”. Is a European who has lived in China longer than in his home country, becoming fluent in the language and knowing the culture well in the process, still a foreigner in China, or has he become more of a foreigner in his own hometown? What about a Beijinger who had her schooling in Canada and then lived and worked there for another 20 years while raising a family who has no intention of returning to China?Does she think and act like a foreigner? What do we mean by this label (标签)? When I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, the faces I would see during a walk through a local shopping mall back in the 1960s and 1970s included almost none of Asian descent (血统).Today the local malls are full of Asian faces, and a glance at the ranks of top scoring students in local schools reveals lots of Asian surnames. To some extent, this is no great surprise in the American context, because America is a land of immigrants, and a cultural melting pot.Apart from the native American Indians, Americans are (or were),in some way, all foreigners anyway.Absorbing a large number of immigrants is an established pattern in American history. In most places, the traditional foreigners were people who didn't speak or read the local languages well and were unfamiliar with local customs and lifestyles. But, nowadays, a foreigner walking down the street may have better SAT scores than you, or a higher degree from a better university. The traditional role models are getting mixed up, and it looks like this is just the beginning of a new chapter.Today, the whole thing has totally changed. It's not about where people are from or what color their skins are. It's about who they are, what values and skills they bring, and how they think. 5.What does the underlined part in paragraph 1 mean? A.The term “foreigner” should be redefined. B.The term “foreigner” should no longer be used. C.There are no more foreigners in the world today. D.The term “foreigner” is not proper to define people. 6.What does the author tend to tell us by mentioning a European and a Beijinger? A.It's no longer proper to define foreigners according to their birthplaces. B.The label of foreigners can never be removed. C.Most foreigners can do well in learning languages. D.It's impossible for a foreigner to get recognition abroad. 7.What can be inferred from the third paragraph? A.In 1960s and 1970s, Asians didn't shop in Chicago. B.Today, more and more Asian travellers like to shop in Chicago. C.There are more Asian people today than in the 1960s and 1970s in Chicago. D.Most Asian students do well academically in the schools in Chicago. 8.What's the main idea of the passage? A.Globalization and mobility have caused more and more immigrants. B.The standards of defining “foreigner” have thoroughly changed. C.America is a cultural melting pot. D.Immigration is a global social phenomenon. Globalization has brought different cultures together in a way unimaginable one hundred years ago.Today, Chinese, Indians, Arabs, Africans, Anglos, and Hispanics may all work in the same offices, attend the same schools or live in the same neighborhoods. As cultures meet with each other, many differences stand out.__9__ We want to show, however, that there is more to these cultures than diversity.Let's take examples of the following old proverbs. “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” “One falsehood spoils a thousand truths.” “Be honest to those who are honest and those who are not honest.” “A sacrifice is spoiled by a lie and the merit of devotion by an act of cheating.” __10__ These seem to be a sort of cultural unity. We don't want to imply all cultures are the same.Cultural diversity is real, and people from different cultures view many situations in different ways.__11__ They are justice, courage, patience, generosity, equality, mercy, kindness, respect for the elders and many more.Lying and stealing appear to be wrong no matter where you go.Perhaps some cultures make room for extenuating (情有可原的) circumstances more than others; perhaps different cultures apply these virtues in different ways; and when values are inconsistent, different cultures may place different levels of importance on them. __12__ But both cultures may still value both. To us, it seems as if there is some sort of code of right and wrong that everyone in the world seems to understand, regardless of culture. It is almost as if, behind all of the diversity, one finds a common understanding — a human culture — that goes beyond racial, social, and political boundaries.__13__ A.And our society has lately stressed the importance of diversity. B.All people seem to agree that we ought to have unique culture. C.Each value supports more sayings from different cultures. D.These sayings from four separate cultures all support the same value — honesty. E.However, historically, different cultures seem to share a great many common values. F.It is almost as if, despite all our differences, we are all still the same — we are just people. G.For example, one culture may lean more toward justice and another culture more toward mercy.
