Dear Jim,
It's a great pleasure to share with you the changes in Beijing during the past few years.
The most impressive one is the rapid development of transportation. In the past, people travelled mainly by bus. Nowadays, with more and more subway lines built, it is much faster and more convenient for people to go almost everywhere. Additionally, the spread of public bikes helps people travel any distance more easily. All these couldn't have happened without the measures taken by the government and applications of new technology.
I am confident that Beijing will become more liveable in the future. Just come and have a look yourself!
Yours,
Li Hua

We were visiting our daughter when we adopted our Boston terrier, Tad. An adorable puppy, just three months old, he became the family's center of attention. Each morning, as soon as he heard my daughter Kayla moving around downstairs, he had to be taken down for playtime before she left for work. When she came home from work, we had him waiting for her at the door.
After three weeks we left for home. During the drive, we let Tad talk to Kayla on the phone every night. After returning home, every time we called Kayla or she called us, we always put Tad on. He scratched the phone and listened intently and tried to look into the phone to see her.
One Saturday, Kayla called while we were out. She left a message. Tad was standing beside me when I pressed the button to listen to the message. He listened to her talking and cocked his head, grinning at me. I played it again for him.
A few days later, I was taking my shower when I heard the answering machine come on and Kayla leave a message. I thought it was strange when I heard her message repeat and the machine announce, “End of messages.” A few seconds later Kayla's message began yet again.
Wondering what was going on, I quickly finished my shower and headed into the living room. There stood Tad, listening to the answering machine. I stopped and watched. When the message finished, he stood up with his feet against the edge of the low table, reached over with one paw (爪子) and slapped (拍打) the answering machine. The message came on again. He dropped back on the floor and listened happily. I told him “no,” and distracted him from the answering machine while I erased (抹去) the message.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

A few days later, I was in the kitchen when I heard, “You have no messages.” I got utterly confused and headed for the living room to figure out what was exactly going on. It was Tad who slapped the answering machine! He stood with his feet on the edge of the table, staring at the machine expectantly. However, after repeating the process for several times, Tad was running out of patience with his paws hitting the button really hard. Then it dawned on me that Tad was eager to hear Kayla talking.
Knowing what Tad wanted, I called Kayla that night and asked her to leave him a message. After hearing what had happened, Kayla agreed to give Tad a surprise. The next morning, when Tad returned home after a walk outside, he ran into the living room and pressed the button of the answering machine again. His face lit up with excitement as he clearly heard the sweet and familiar voice: “I do miss you, Tad.” This was indeed a special message for him. He could listen to it whenever he wanted to hear Kayla's voice and we both longed for the next reunion with our beloved Kayla.
Switching from childhood to adulthood can be challenging. Oftentimes, you may still feel like a child. Work on not acting like a child by managing your emotions. __1__
Accept responsibility for your actions.
You should take responsibility for your actions, whether they are intentional (故意的) or unintentional. __2__ Failing to accept responsibility may seem like a good idea at the time, but in the long term it will not benefit you. For example, if you accidentally back into your neighbor's car, let them know by writing them a note or knocking on their door. Then, correct your mistake by paying for the damage.
Show people respect.
Respect your partner, family members, friends, and strangers. __3__ As you grow up and mature, you should understand the concept of respect and why it is important. Showing respect for others will also bring you more respect.
__4__
When you are faced with a conflict, it is important to keep your emotions in check. Control your anger and avoid becoming aggressive. Take a deep breath, listen, and work through the conflict with the other individual. Give yourself time to cool down if you are really angry. This will prevent you from saying and doing things that you shouldn't say or do in the heat of the moment.
Receive feedback (反馈) positively.
People learn and grow by receiving feedback and criticism from others. You should accept that you don't know everything and that feedback from an expert is not meant to hurt you. __5__ For example, thoroughly read through your edits on your research paper. These edits will help improve your writing in the future.
A.It is meant to help you.
B.Take on responsibilities.
C.Develop a way to handle a conflict maturely.
D.It is a sign of maturity and respect for others.
E.Children are often selfish and disrespectful.
F.It is impossible for you to reach your goal like an adult.
G.With a little bit of practice, you will begin to see yourself acting more like an adult than a child.
1.选G 上文“Switching from childhood ...managing your emotions.” 符合语境,该项中的“see yourself acting more like an adult than a child”和上文的“Work on not acting like a child”相呼应。
2.选D 上文“You should take responsibility for your actions, whether they are intentional (故意的) or unintentional.” 符合语境,该项中的It指代前文“You should take responsibility for your actions”。
3.选E 上文“Respect your partner, family members, friends, and strangers.”以及下文“As you grow up and mature, you should understand the concept of respect and why it is important.”
4.选C 下文“When you are ...avoid becoming aggressive.”
5.选A 上文“People learn and ...to hurt you.”
