D. $0. B “We can’t use these. They look like heirloom (传家宝) !” Gina, a guest at my holiday gathering, held up one of the elaborately embroidered (刺绣的) napkins from the buffet table. When I explained they came from a dustbin, disbelief settled over my guests. These items all belonged to Mrs. Bulski, a widow who had lived down the street as long as I’d been in the neighborhood, about twenty years. One morning, I noticed a full-size dustbin in front of her house and some strangers in and out. I assumed it was for trash from some construction project. But later I learned Mrs Bulski had passed away. Her family was cleaning out the house, throwing cloths, bedding, and furniture into the dustbin. A man about forty emerged from the back door, his arms piled high with blankets and sheets. Considering his business- like calm, I introduced myself and ventured, “If you’re getting rid of these, might I offer to buy them?” “Take them,” he marched past me without looking, without missing a beat. So I walked inside my first dustbin. There lay the quiet archaeology of an old woman’s life. And something broke open in me — evenings at my grandmother’s returned: the two of us huddled together on the sofa, working needles of colored thread through small cloth pieces, as she taught me how to give shape to the birds and flowers we ironed onto future kitchen towels. The few towels I still keep from her are like gold to me. My grandmother and Mrs. Bulski were of the same generation. Soon Mrs. Bulski’s things found a new home in my house. As I handled them, tears welled up at their beauty, and their abandonment. Had the man turned his back on the family heritage, much as my own parents had turned away from their old- world roots? So much of what is made today isn’t meant to last. These objects tell no stories. But the towels my grandmother and I stitched together, the napkins from Mrs. Bulski, still remained stable, adding to the stability of my world, giving weight to my being. 4. What did the author initially think the dustbin was for? A. Storing heirlooms. B. Housing belongings. C. Collecting donated items. D. Holding decoration waste. 5. Which is the best understanding of “the quiet archaeology” of an old woman’s life? A. Scientific value. B. Personal history. C. Ancient artifacts. D. Social interaction. 6. Why does the author mention her own grandmother? A. To honor her ancestor’s tradition. B. To reflect the fate of immigrant women. C. To appreciate her grandma’s handiwork. D. To show emotional connection to heritage. 7. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. The Forgotten Heirloom B. Rescue Stories from the Past C. Mrs. Bulski’s Hidden Napkins D. Grandma’s Embroidery Lessons C Normal cement (水泥) tends to absorb infrared radiation (红外线) from the sun and store it as heat which can increase the temperature inside cement buildings as well as that of the surrounding air. So Fengyin Du, then at Southeast University in Nanjing, China, and her colleagues decided to address this by creating a new cement in which tiny reflective crystals of a mineral collect on the surface. The team’s cement emits infrared light from its surface, rather than storing it, and so loses heat quickly. “It works like a mirror and a radiator, so it can reflect sunlight away and send heat out into the sky, so a building can stay cooler without any air conditioning or electricity,” says Du. In the laboratory, the researchers first produce tiny balls from common minerals like limestone and gypsum. These are ground to dust and mixed with water before being poured into a silicone mould (硅胶模具) covered in small holes. Air bubbles passing through the holes create slight depressions in the cement’s surface, where the reflective crystals can then grow, while an aluminium-rich substance in the set cement lets infrared light pass through the material. Economically, this new cement holds an advantage, costing $5 per tonne less than normal cement, as Du notes its production requires lower temperatures. Du and her team tested how their cement kept cool on a hot roof at Purdue University in Indiana, which jointly hosted Du’s PhD project, finding that the surface temperature was 5.4℃ lower than the air and 26℃ lower than the normal cement. “It’s a useful material,” says Oscar Brousse at University College London. “You increase the reflective capacity as well as increasing the emissivity, so any energy that is captured or conducted to the material is emitted efficiently back.” However, measuring only the surface temperature of the material doesn’t tell us how it will perform in the real world, says Brousse, so it should undergo further testing. “It doesn’t mean that because the surface is 5℃ lower, that the air temperature will be 5℃ lower around it. The effect locally may be greatly limited.” 8. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 1 refer to? A. The rising indoor temperature. B. The absorbed infrared radiation. C. The heat storage of normal cement. D. The use of reflective mineral crystals. 9. How does the new cement achieve cooling effect? A. It reflects sunlight and emits heat. B. It lets cool air into minerals. C. It locks infrared with air bubbles. D. It creates pressure on the surface. 10. What is the strength of the new cement? A. Replacing air conditioning. B. Reducing air temperature. C. Working best on Indiana roofs. D. Lowering production cost. 11. What is Brousse’s attitude towards the new cement? A Objective. B. Indifferent. C. Pessimistic. D. Disapproving. D The bald eagle, America’s national symbol of strength and freedom, has made an inspiring comeback from near extinction. Once endangered due to harmful pesticides and habitat loss, these great birds now fly across skies they nearly disappeared from decades ago. Their story is one of environmental recovery and cultural pride. In the mid-20th century, the widespread use of the insecticide DDT caused eagle populations to drop sharply. The chemical weakened eggshells, making it nearly impossible for chicks to survive. By the 1980s, states like New Jersey had only one nesting (筑巢的) pair left. But after DDT was prohibited in 1972, conservation (保护) efforts began. Scientists transported eagles from stable populations in Canada and used creative methods, like replacing real eggs with fake ones, to protect chicks. These efforts paid off: New Jersey now has over 300 nesting pairs, and the species was removed from the US endangered list in 2007. “They’re a conservation success story,” says Maia Edwards of the American Bald Eagle Foundation. Eagles have proven adaptable, nesting even in busy areas like suburban neighborhoods. Kathy Clark, a wildlife expert in New Jersey, recalls young eagles surviving in a crowded town near New York. “They’re tough — like true Jersey birds,” she says with a sense of wonder. However, challenges remain. Crashes with cars, habitat loss and diseases like bird flu threaten their recovery. Zoos and rescue centers, such as New Jersey’s Turtle Back Zoo, care for injured birds that can’t return to the wild. Conservationists stress the need for clean waterways and protected spaces to ensure eagles grow well. Culturally, the bald eagle’s comeback has won hearts. Recent laws officially declared it America’s national bird, though many assumed it already was. Native American communities, who view eagles as spiritual symbols, supported the move. The birds also inspire sports fans — like the Philadelphia Eagles football team competing in this year’s Super Bowl. For average Americans, spotting a bald eagle remains amazing. Birdwatcher Dan Day, who grew up rarely seeing them, now encounters eagles regularly. “It brightens up your whole day,” he says. Experts remind people to admire eagles from a distance, as troubling them harms their recovery. 12. What is the third paragraph mainly about? A. The history of the bald eagle. B. The success of conservation efforts. C. The current situation of bald eagles. D. The challenges faced by bald eagles. 13. How does Kathy Clark feel about bald eagles living in crowded New Jersey towns? A. She is surprised by their ability to adapt. B. She worries they will trouble human life. C. She thinks they are a danger to local pets. D. She believes they belong only in distant areas. 14. Why does the author mention the Philadelphia Eagles football team? A. To emphasize bald eagles’ cultural influence. B. To compare sports strategies with conservation. C. To question the destructive business of wildlife. D. To highlight unique regional birdwatching spots. 15. What can be learned about bald eagles? A. They attack humans who get too close. B. They prefer living in zoos over the wild. C. Birdwatchers never see them in urban areas. D Human interaction could slow their recovery. Family conflict affects everyone. ____16____, you may want to mediate(调解) to make everyone's life easier. The rocket competition would begin shortly, and he needed every detail checked. Nothing could risk his winning. Winning wasn’t just important; it was everything the only time he felt truly seen among the indifference (冷漠) of his fellow students. He had never lost a contest, but that didn’t calm him. Being on top counted, and he pushed himself to remain there. The other students, however, rarely approached him. Their glances were either distant or competitive, and Tom, too proud to reach out first, kept to himself. Time was passing, and he finally got his rocket ready. Everything about it was perfect. A flood of confidence washed over him as he examined the other rockets, quickly finding problems that would affect their flight. But one rocket stood out: shining like polished silver, professionally crafted. His critical eye told him this one could beat his. A thin boy lifted it gently. “Hi, your rocket’s awesome,” the boy said, a shy smile on his lips. “Thanks,” Tom replied flatly, then regretfully added, “Yours too-really professional.” “I’ve been working on it all summer,” the boy said, his eyes lighting up. “By the way, I’m Ed. Good luck.” “Tom. You too,” Tom replied, shaken by the unexpected kindness. For the first time, he wondered if winning was everything. The competition began. Rockets launched. Some crashed immediately; others climbed, but none came close to the heights Tom’s rockets had hit previously. Tom watched, but felt no satisfaction. His stomach sank as he watched Ed prepare. Suddenly, his heart skipped a beat. He noticed a tiny gap between a fin (机翼) and the fuselage (机身) — a loose fin that would ruin the flight. But Ed, unaware, glanced at Tom and gave him a thumbs-up. Tom knew he had to decide. “Next contestant: Ed Malovich!” the announcer called. Ed nodded, took a deep breath, and carefully carried his silver rocket to the launch pad. The crowd quieted, all eyes fixed on the craft. Just as Ed was about to press the button, Tom came up. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The announcer called out loudly, declaring Ed the winner. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026学年度第二学期第一阶段自主练习 高二英语 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段录音。 1 What is the man doing? Grandma’s Embroidery Lessons 【答案】4. D 5. B 6. D 7. 根据第二段中的“I noticed a full-size dustbin in front of her house and some strangers in and out. I assumed it was for trash from some construction project.(我注意到她家门前有一个全尺寸的垃圾桶,还有一些陌生人进进出出。 根据第三段中的“There lay the quiet archaeology of an old woman’s life.(那里躺着一位老妇人生命中the quiet archaeology)”以及下文作者联想到自己的祖母、感悟这些旧物(刺绣餐巾、毛巾)承载的过往可知,此处的the quiet archaeology指的是Bulski夫人留下的、承载着她一生经历和个人过往的物品,即她的个人历史。 根据第四段中的 “And something broke open in me — evenings at my grandmother’s returned: the two of us huddled together on the sofa, working needles of colored thread through small cloth pieces, as she taught me how to give shape to the birds and flowers we ironed onto future kitchen towels. The few towels I still keep from her are like gold to me. My grandmother and Mrs. Bulski were of the same generation.(我的内心一下子被触动了 —— 祖母家的那些夜晚又浮现在眼前:我们俩挤在沙发上,用彩色的针线在小块布料上穿来穿去,她教我如何把熨在未来要做的厨用毛巾上的花鸟绣出形状。 C Normal cement (水泥) tends to absorb infrared radiation (红外线) from the sun and store it as heat, which can increase the temperature inside cement buildings as well as that of the surrounding air. “It’s a useful material” says Oscar Brousse at University College London. A. Objective. B. Indifferent. C. Pessimistic. D. Disapproving. C 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第一段“Normal cement (水泥) tends to absorb infrared radiation (红外线) from the sun and store it as heat, which can increase the temperature inside cement buildings as well as that of the surrounding air.(普通水泥会吸收来自太阳的红外线并将其转化为热量储存起来,这会导致水泥建筑内部以及周围空气的温度升高)”可知,普通水泥会吸收并储存热量,导致建筑及周边升温,后文“address this”即指解决这一问题,“this”指代普通水泥的储热问题。 根据第二段“The team’s cement emits infrared light from its surface, rather than storing it, and so loses heat quickly. “It works like a mirror and a radiator, so it can reflect sunlight away and send heat out into the sky, so a building can stay cooler without any air conditioning or electricity,” says Du.(该团队研发的这种水泥从其表面会释放出红外线,而非储存红外线,因此能够迅速散失热量。 故选A。 根据第四段“Economically, this new cement holds an advantage, costing $5 per tonne less than normal cement, as Du notes its production requires lower temperatures.(从经济角度来看,这种新型水泥具有优势,其每吨的成本比普通水泥低5美元,因为其生产过程所需的温度更低。 根据第五段“It’s a useful material(这是一种有用的材料)”以及最后一段“However, measuring only the surface temperature of the material doesn’t tell us how it will perform in the real world, says Brousse, so it should undergo further testing.(不过,布罗塞表示,仅仅测量材料的表面温度并不能让我们了解其在实际环境中的表现情况,因此该材料还需要进行进一步的测试)”可知,布罗塞对这种新型水泥持客观态度。故选A。 D The bald eagle, America’s national symbol of strength and freedom, has made an inspiring comeback from near extinction. D. Human interaction could slow their recovery. 12. B 13. A 14. A 15. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just as Ed was about to press the button, Tom came up. “Wait!” he called out, his voice firm yet gentle. Ed turned around, confused, as Tom pointed to the loose fin. “There’s a gap here — it’ll make your rocket crash,” Tom explained, reaching out to steady the fin lightly. “Let me help you fix it; it’ll only take a minute.” Ed’s eyes widened with surprise and gratitude, and together they tightened the fin quickly. When they finished, Tom smiled, feeling a warmth he’d never known before — warmer than any victory. “Now you’re ready,” he said sincerely. The announcer called out loudly, declaring Ed the winner. The crowd cheered, and Ed turned to Tom, rushing over to hug him tightly. “Thank you so much — you could’ve won easily!” Ed said excitedly. Tom shook his head, smiling calmly. “Winning isn’t everything,” he said, finally understanding the truth he’d doubted earlier. “Your kindness matters more.” From that day on, Tom no longer kept to himself. He and Ed became good friends, and Tom learned that being seen wasn’t about winning contests, but about sharing kindness and connecting with others. 词类激活 行为类 ①大叫:call out/yell ②完成:finish/complete ③重要:matter/count 情绪类 ①困惑的:confused/puzzled ②感激:gratitude/appreciation ③兴奋地:excitedly/enthusiastically 【点睛】【高分句型1】“Wait!” he called out, his voice firm yet gentle. 2】He and Ed became good friends, and Tom learned that being seen wasn’t about winning contests, but about sharing kindness and connecting with others.(运用了that引导的宾语从句和动名词作主语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
