[1]Tom Perry concentrated hard. The rocket competition would begin shortly, and he wanted to be sure he hadn't left any detail unchecked. No possible problem was too small to be ignored. He had never lost a contest, but that didn't calm him. Being on top counted, and he pushed himself to remain there.
[2] The other kids, however, rarely came over to him.Whenever they did, it usually made him feel like they'd been forced to do it. No way, though, was he going over to them. He'd win again, and they couldn't ignore that.
[3]He opened his toolbox. Pushing aside engines, igniters (点火器), glue, tape, and clips, he pulled out the pieces of his launch pad and began assembling it. Tom checked his rocket again with satisfaction. Everything from the smooth fuselage to perfect aerodynamics told him he had another winner—especially when he glanced at the other rockets.
[4]He noticed problems quickly. A green rocket had dents and rough areas around. He knew its altitude would be limited. Another had fins(尾翼) too close to its center of gravity—without a doubt the rocket would tumble. One rocket, however, caught his eye. It had the look. His critical eye detected that this rocket could beat his. Tom felt a little nervous but he turned away and continued his work.
[5]“Hi,” a voice interrupted his focus. It was a thin boy, Ed, offering a nervous smile, “Nice rocket.” Tom looked up and whispered thanks. Just as Ed lifted his rocket, Tom noticed a fin on Ed's rocket had loosened. Obviously, Ed hadn't noticed it. Tom felt a bit sorry but hesitated to say anything.
[6]As Ed's turn approached, Tom's heart raced. He had to speak up, despite the risk of losing. “Ed, hold up!” he shouted, drawing the attention of the crowd.

One possible version:
Ed stopped, turned around and looked at Tom, confused. Tom pointed to the loose fin, saying, “It'll flip in midair if you launch now.”(微情节一:汤姆提醒埃德火箭尾翼松动) Ed's eyes widened and he thanked Tom while quickly coming up with a solution. After Ed fixed it just in time, his rocket shot into the sky perfectly.(微情节二:埃德及时修好火箭并完美发射) The crowd cheered, and Tom felt a mix
of regret and relief. He had solved a problem, but maybe at the cost of his own victory. As his name was called, he walked into the field, legs heavy. Tom managed to operate his rocket calmly and his rocket had reached an impressive height. The scores were announced, but unfortunately, his score wasn't enough to beat Ed.(微情节三:汤姆未能赢过埃德)
Tom felt the pain of defeat but also a sense of pride. As he packed up his tools, he noticed Ed coming over to him, the trophy in his hand. With great excitement, Ed pressed the trophy into Tom's hand and repeated, “Thank you.” He insisted that it belonged to both of them.(微情节一:埃德感谢汤姆,认为奖杯属于彼此) Tom was so moved that he could hardly hold back his tears for Ed's sincerity. The other kids
also approached, clapping for Tom's generosity.(微情节二:埃德的真诚和汤姆的慷慨感染了其他孩子) Ed then invited Tom to the celebration at his house with everyone, and Tom nodded, feeling a shift within him. For the first time, he saw the value in sharing his passion and skills with others, which earned him valuable friendship.(微情节三:汤姆意外收获友谊)
