Today, I’m going to talk about my hobby. Some people play sports and others build models, but my hobby is 1 (collect) stamps. I love stamps because they are very beautiful. They can also teach me about the history and culture of different countries.
I developed this hobby 2 I was seven years old. My grandpa is a stamp collector and he has 3 (thousand) of stamps. Some of them are valuable, so he always handles them with great care. He even wears white gloves 4 (protect) his stamps! Every Sunday, my grandpa adds new ones to his collection. More interestingly, once in a while, he tells us stories about different stamps. It is almost like 5 history lesson.
Look at this stamp of the Palace Museum. It is my favourite because it was my first one. My grandpa managed to buy it for me. “They built these buildings hundreds of years ago. It may seem 6 (possible), but they built them 7 using a single nail!” he explained.
Because of his stories, I became interested in history. In fact, back then, I even 8 (prefer) history books to comic books. Now, when friends ask how 9 (start) collecting stamps, I give them small suggestions. Most importantly, we don’t need to buy expensive stamps; we can use stamps from letters. Since I started the hobby, I 10 (know) so much about the world. This hobby is always fun!
1.collecting 2.when 3.thousands 4.to protect 5.a 6.impossible 7.without 8.preferred 9.to start 10.have known
因为前面动作wear gloves的目的是protect his stamps,所以用to protect。
因为后面是using a single nail,表示不使用钉子,所以用without。

1.句意:“Emo” 是 “emotional(情绪激动的)” 的缩写。
固定搭配 be short for,意为 “是…… 的缩写”,是本题核心语法线索。“Emo” is short for “emotional” 表示 “Emo 是 emotional 的缩写”,符合固定搭配和语境。long(长的)、big(大的)、small(小的),均无 “be…for” 的固定搭配,与 “缩写” 的语境不符。
前文提到 “Usually, they are bad ones, like anger, worry”,可知空格需填入与 “anger(愤怒)、worry(焦虑)” 并列的负面情绪。 happiness(幸福,正面情绪)、kindness(善良,正面品质)、darkness(黑暗,抽象负面概念,非情绪类),均不符合并列逻辑。

“ate some chocolate” 和 “the happy moment of his life” 是并列动作线索,需填入能搭配 “美好时刻” 的短语。 looked at(看,侧重视觉动作)、walked into(走进)、took over(接管),均无法与 “美好时刻” 搭配表达 “回味” 的含义。
后文 “Bad feelings come and go, but Jim always looks for ways to make himself feel better” 是主旨线索,吉姆在困难时期选择积极面对,需填入 “发现 / 寻找光明面” 的动词。find the bright side rise(上升,不及物动词)、collect(收集)、hide(隐藏,与主旨相反),均不符合 “寻找积极面” 的语境和逻辑。

In December 2025, Australia made a new law. Young people under 16 can’t have their own social media accounts (账号) any more. Apps such as TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat and others must check users’ ages now. And they need to take away the accounts of those under 16. Companies (公司) shouldn’t break this rule, or they may have to pay a lot of money.
Many parents, teachers and child-safety experts have been worried about the effects of social media on young people. There are some Internet risks like cyberbullying, wrong information and long screen time. The government hopes the rule will protect young people’s health and encourage real-world activities.
Under the rule, social media companies must use technology like age-checking videos and ID checks to guess a user’s age. If someone seems under 16, their account will be closed. The way isn’t perfect, and some young people may still find ways around it, but it tries its best to decrease the number of users under 16.
________ Some families welcome the change because it makes the internet a safer place. Others are afraid that it may cut off young people from friends and support groups online. Tech companies also say age checks are hard to carry out and may encourage children to move to smaller or riskier apps.
Australia will watch how the rule works and see how much it helps young people. Other countries are watching closely, thinking about starting similar laws too. This Australian new plan may influence how the world protects children online in the future.

C.To protect young people’s health and encourage real-world activities.

The world’s biggest iceberg (冰山) is on the move from the Weddell Sea. It is the first time that it has started its trip after being stuck (被困) on the seafloor for over 30 years.
The iceberg, called A23a, is more than twice the size of London. It is about 4,000 square kilometres in area. London, by way of comparison, is 1,572 square kilometres.
A23a hasn’t always held the title of the world’s biggest iceberg since the 1980s. It was sometimes replaced by larger icebergs including (包括) A68 in 2017 and A76 in 2021. But they soon broke into smaller icebergs, putting A23a back into the top place.
A23a broke away from the West Antarctic coast (海岸) in 1986 but got stuck on the seafloor (海底) right away. It started moving again in 2020 but just moved faster this year as wind and ocean currents (洋流) pushed it along.
Most icebergs from the Weddell Sea would move east. If that happens to A23a, it could be stuck again near South Georgia. But other smaller icebergs, like A24, have moved more directly north, toward the Falkland Islands.
If A23a doesn’t get stuck, it could go on traveling to the south of Africa and into the Indian Ocean. It may even go all the way into the Pacific Ocean and come up on Chile, almost traveling around the Earth. Some of the largest icebergs have done that in the past. And scientists will closely watch how it will move.
1.Which of the following icebergs is the largest in the world now?
A.A76. B.A68. C.A24. D.A23a.
2.Why does the writer mention London in Paragraph 2?
A.To explain how big A23a is. B.To introduce the most famous city.
C.To show how far it is between A23a and London. D.To discuss the influence of icebergs on the city.
3.What can we know about A23a from Paragraph 4?
A.It started to move faster this year. B.It was stuck on the seafloor in 2020.
C.It may break into small icebergs soon. D.Wind and ocean currents stopped A23a moving.
4.What can we infer (推断) from the last two paragraphs?
A.A24 set a record of traveling around the Earth. B.Scientists are not sure about the movement of A23a.
C.Most icebergs get stuck because of ocean currents. D.A23a got stuck again near South Georgia.
5.Who may be most interested in the passage?
A.Guides who work in the seaside city. B.Students who enjoy traveling.
C.Tourists who enjoy water sports. D.Scientists who study nature.

In our busy modern world, finding time to relax is very important. But did you know that different hobbies can bring us different benefits? Scientists have found that having a hobby is not just a way to pass time—it’s good for both our body and mind.
First of all, hobbies help us manage stress. When we are doing something we enjoy, our brain produces chemicals (化学物质) that make us feel happy. For example, a study showed that 80% of people who paint or draw once a week feel less worried about their daily problems. Activities like yoga and meditation (冥想) are especially good for calming our minds.
Secondly, hobbies can help us learn new skills and build confidence. When we start a new hobby, we might find it difficult. But if we keep trying and finally succeed, we feel a sense of achievement. This feeling makes us more confident in other areas of our life. For example, learning to play a musical instrument teaches us patience and discipline (纪律).
Thirdly, some hobbies are social. Joining a book club or a sports team allows us to meet new people who share our interests. We can chat with them, share ideas, and make friends. This helps us feel connected and less lonely. Studies show that people with social hobbies are often happier and live longer.
So how can you choose the right hobby? Think about what you like. When you love what you do in your free time, life becomes more colorful and meaningful.

Different people have different cures for colds. In some countries, people might eat chicken soup to feel better. Some people take hot baths and drink warm drinks. Other people take medicine (药物) to stop the fever. There is one interesting thing to note—some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you.

1.How does the writer explain the idea that hobbies help manage stress?
A.By telling a story. B.By giving examples and numbers.
C.By asking questions. D.By comparing different hobbies.
2.According to the passage, what can “a sense of achievement” from a hobby do?
A.It can make us feel more stressed. B.It can make us want to give up.
C.It can make us more confident. D.It can waste our free time.
3.Why are social hobbies mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A.To show that hobbies can help us make friends.
B.To tell us that staying alone is bad for health.
C.To explain why hobbies are expensive.
D.To ask us to join a sports team.
