A Science fiction is a fantastic genre (体裁) that can take readers on incredible journeys to outer space, futuristic worlds, and beyond. Here are four exciting middle-grade sci-fi novels where girls are the main characters, saving the day and solving mysteries. Grace Needs Space! by Benjamin A.Wilgus and Rii Abrego This graphic novel takes a fun turn on the classic summer road trip. Grace is super excited to go on a trip across the galaxy (银河系) with her mom. But things don't go as planned. There are lots of problems along the way that threaten to ruin their vacation. Grace has to figure out how to fix things and make the trip fun again. The Care and Feeding of a Pet Black Hole by Michelle Cuevas Stella goes on a day trip to NASA and brings home a very unusual souvenir — a black hole that acts like a pet! At first, it seems fun because the black hole can suck up (吸收) anything. But then it sucks up Stella and her little brother. As Stella tries to get back home, she also has to deal with the sadness she feels since her dad passed away. Hana Hsu and the Ghost Crab Nation by Sylvia Liu This book is a super exciting mix of futuristic elements. It has a world controlled by big companies, where people connect their minds to the Internet. Hana is trying to win a competition to connect her mind to the web, but she discovers a dangerous plot that puts her loved ones in danger. She has to decide if she really wants to connect her mind and how to stop the bad guys. Plotting the Stars: Moongarden by Michelle A.Barry Imagine going to a fancy school on the moon! Myra, the main character, finds a hidden garden filled with dangerous plants. This discovery sets off a chain of events that changes her life forever. The book has themes of science, technology, engineering and math, and takes place in a really unique setting. 1.Which book features a character who brings home something from NASA? George was very shy and barely used to talking with anybody. But he had a friend from his neighborhood, Grace Green, the daughter of a distinguished and weird physics professor. Mr.Green was a weird man and wanted to build a time machine. After doing his day job as a head lecturer at the famous city university, he spent his whole night doing weird experiments in his home laboratory. The neighborhood of Mr.Green was fed up with watching every night colored-flashy lights and smoke coming from his house. His weird experiments were the main reason that let Mr.Green's wife leave him and start living with her parents, but Grace decided to live with her dad. But George was very fond of watching the colored lights coming from Mr.Green's house. He was the only person whom Mr.Green had allowed to enter his house and even his laboratory as George never doubted Mr.Green's ambitions. He used to ask many questions related to the experiments.Very happily, Mr.Green used to answer every question curious George raised and told George about his secret time machine project on which he was working for many years.Mr.Green had also promised little George that one day soon he would take him to his parents in his time machine. Then one day the whole neighborhood gathered around Mr.Green's house.Everyone was shocked to see the house of Mr.Green disappear along with Mr.Green, Grace, and little George. 4.Where could you find the text? Cooking can be therapeutic and provides opportunities for many things: gratitude, learning, creativity, communication, adventure, self-expression, growth, independence, confidence and more. 9 Family relationships could be affected if family members are no longer working together in the kitchen. Also, there are risks to culture. For example, AI could clumsily copy traditional recipes and methods, since AI may tend to flatten or oversimplify cultural details and distinctions. 10 Technology developers could become gatekeepers for food innovation, if the limits of their machines lead to uniformity in cuisines and creativity, similar to the weirdly similar feel of AI art images across different apps. The technology is still emerging, so it's unclear whether robot cooks can precisely identify ingredients. Foodborne illnesses are an unknown. Will AI and robots be able to smell, taste or otherwise sense the freshness of an ingredient or perform other safety checks? AI chatbots have been advising people to eat rocks, glue, gasoline and poisonous mushrooms. 11 Legal systems are still struggling to sort out liability (责任) for autonomous vehicles. 12 Given the significance of food, food technologies help shape society. The kitchen has a special place in homes, neighborhoods and cultures, so interfering in that venerable institution requires careful thinking to optimize benefits and reduce risks. A.Convenience can come at a great cost. B.All of these may be lost if no one needs to cook. C.AI can help with experimentation within the spirit of a culture. D.So it's not a stretch to think that AI recipes could be faulty, too. E.Similarly, it may be tricky to figure out legal responsibility for robot cooks. F.AI chatbots can communicate with AI kitchen, adjusting settings accordingly. G.This selection preference could lead to reduced diversity in the kinds of cuisine. 8.选A 根据后文“So it's vital to ... throughout daily life.” 故选A。 9.选B 根据前文“Cooking can be therapeutic ...confidence and more.”和后文“Family relationships could be affected if family members are no longer working together in the kitchen.” 符合题意,B项中的“All of these”指代前文提到的诸多好处。故选B。 10.选G 根据前文“For example, AI could clumsily copy ...oversimplify cultural details and distinctions.” 11.选D 前文“AI chatbots have been advising people to eat rocks, glue, gasoline and poisonous mushrooms.” 12.选E 前文“Legal systems are still struggling to sort out liability (责任) for autonomous vehicles.”
