But his master, animal trainer He Jun, wants to continue his star dog’s image by making a clone. “Juice himself is a piece of intellectual property(知识产权)with social influence,” said He. To achieve that, He went to Sinogene, China’s first biotech(生物技术)company to provide pet cloning services. Sinogene made headlines when it successfully cloned a gene-edited dog last year. A month later, it offered commercial cloning services. For at least 380,000 yuan, pet owners can clone their pets. Sinogene’s pet cloning business is in its initial stages, but the company plans to expand services to eventually include gene editing as more and more pet owners want their pets to accompany them for an even longer period of time. China’s biotech industry is growing rapidly and faces few regulatory barriers. Tin-Lap Lee,an associate professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said while China has regulations on the use of animals for lab research, there are no laws clearly covering animal cloning. “On the government side, the image of this cloning industry is very high-tech,” said Lee. Juice’s copy, “Little Juice” was born in mid-September and stayed with its surrogate mother(代理孕母)in Sinogene’s lab for about a month. The puppy was later given to he at a small ceremony at which the original Juice was present. While he has not announced Little Juice would start a career in show business, he sees lots of potential. “We believe he’ll be even better than the older Juice,” He said. 1. What might the image of Juice bring according to his master? A.Large profits. B.Great comfort. C.High technology. D.Unlimited copies. 2. Why is Sinogene optimistic about its business? D.Little Juice will become a big dog star. Juice himself is a piece of intellectual property(知识产权)with social influence”可知,“果汁”的演艺事业很成功,他的形象也有社会影响力。由此推知,在他的主人看来,“果汁”的形象可以带来巨大的利润,故选A。 【小题2】推理判断题。根据第三段中的“more and more pet owners want their pets to accompany them for an even longer period of time.”可知,越来越多的人想要宠物能够更长久地陪伴自己,Sinogene因此计划扩展自己的业务范围。由此推知,Sinogene之所以乐观是因为市场需求日益增大,故选C。 【小题3】推理判断题。根据第四段“while China has regulations on the use of animals for lab research, there are no laws clearly covering animal cloning. “On the government side, the image of this cloning industry is very high-tech,"可知,李教授认为中国在动物克隆方面并未制定出明确的法律规章,克隆产业在政府方面看来代表着高科技。由此推知,他认为政府是支持克隆产业的,故选D。 【小题4】推理判断题。根据最后一段“While he has not announced Little Juice would start a career in show business, he sees lots of potential.”可知,他认为“小果汁”在演艺事业上有很多潜力,甚至会更出色。由此可知,他说的话的意思是:“小果汁”将会成为一个大明星狗狗,故选D。 一、阅读理解 A Cloud computing will be in use by about 80 percent of about 600 companies. The trend suggests that data management and storage are moving to cloud computing sellers on a large scale. Touting(兜售)cloud computing as a way to get rid of the costs of buying and maintain in on-site information-technology equipment, sellers offer it in the form of Software AsA. Service(SAAS), a delivery model in which software applications are delivered to customers over a web-based network. SAAS can serve the needs of entire companies through huge, web-based platforms. As cloud computing rapidly bccomes the delivery channel for software developers of all shapes and sizes to get their products to market, offering applications in a cloud is now the rule not the exception. A. relatively small number of sellers are able to offer SAAS to big companies that want company-wide cloud computing, and only the sellers need apply. Although market-share data are hard to come by, the list of company’s large enough to offer cloud-computing on this scale is short: Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Salesforce, Rackspace and not many others.  The concentration of data and virtual (虚拟)computing in the hands of relatively few sellers raises an important risk for their customers if the Internet-based systems of any one seller are hacked, the result could be security problems across entire industries in which their customers do  Can this small group of cloud-computing sellers effectively respond to the needs of their customers to quickly fix such a problem and, most importantly, cut off the damage to these companies' own customers? Don't think such things can't happen. If hackers can penetrate the Department of Defense, the risk that they will penetrate Microsoft or google cannot be ruled out Compromise of just one of these sellers---even one with a modest market share---possibly could shut down, at least temporarily, a sizable part of the U. S. economy.  1. What can cloud computing do? A.Reduce the cost of computers.  B.Provide software service.  C.Market various products.  D.Help companies design websites.  2. What do we know about cloud computing? A.It works under SAAS.  B.It covers a large part of market-share.  C.Most companies can provide it.  D.Most sellers apply for it.  3. Why is the Department of Defense mentioned in the last paragraph? A.To warn people of the hackers' power.  B.To show relationship between it and microsoft.  C.To give an example of the country's loss.  D.To present the real picture of the U.S.economy.  4. What might be the best title for the text? A.The Unthinkable risks of the cloud.  B.Cloud Computing and Smart Sellers.  C.SAAS and changing Companies.  D.The Cloud Computing Age. 【答案】B B A D 【解析】这是一篇说明文,文章介绍了云计算时代的到来,云计算将占据很大的市场份额,给人们提供网络服务,但是也会带来一系列的问题。 【小题1】细节理解题。根据文章第二段的句子“Touting(兜售)cloud computing as a way to get rid of the costs of buying and maintain in on-site information-technology equipment, sellers offer it in the form of Software AsA"可知,云计算可以提供网络服务.省去了购买相关设备的成本,以软件(Software As Service)的形式提供,故选B。 【小题2】细节理解题。根据文章第一段的句子" Cloud computing will be in use by about 80 percent of about 600 companies. The trend suggests that data management and storage are moving to cloud computing sellers on a large scale.”可知,云计算覆盖很大的 市场份额(大约600家公司中约80%的公司将使用云计算),在很大范围内数据处理与储存将交给云计算销售商去完成,这是一个目前的趋势,故选B。 【小题3】推理判断题。根据最后一段的句子" If hackers can penetrate the Department of Defense, the risk that they will penetrate Microsoft or google cannot be ruled out Compromise of just one of these sellers---even one with a modest market share---possibly could shut down, at least temporarily, a sizable part of the U. S. economy. "可知,如果黑客能够入侵美国国防部,那么不能排除黑客入侵 微软或谷歌的风险,即使是市场份额不大的其中一家销售商(遭到入侵),也有可能导致美国经济的相当大一部分遭遇暂时瘫瘓。分析语境,最后一段提到国防部是为了借此警告人们黑客的力量(巨大破坏力),故选A。 【小题4】主旨大意题。根据全文和第一段的句子" Cloud computing will be in use by about 80 percent of about 600 companies. The trend suggests that data management and storage are moving to cloud computing sellers on a large scale."(大约600家公司中约 80%的公司将使用云计算。这一趋势表明,数据管理和存储正在大规模地转向云计算销售商)可知,文章开头提出云计算时代的美好未来,全文主要介绍云计算时代的方方面面。The Cloud Computing Age是最恰当的标题,故选D。 B Hundreds of villagers took matters into their own hands by digging miles of trenches(沟壕)to install their own cables(电缆). The tiny village in Michaelston-y-Fedw, with a population of 300, clubbed together after being unable to download films, stream music or connect to online banking. Farmers, teachers and even the village pub owners put in thousands of hours of volunteering to dig miles of trenches and now have super fast broadband(宽带). The project cost around £250,000 with villagers paying£150,000 of their own money to secure their super fast connection speed. They were also able to obtain£100,000 from EU funding and the Welsh Government Access Broadband Cymru scheme. The idea was produced in the local pub when villagers were complaining about their Wi-Fi connections. Ben Longman, owner of the Cefn Mably Arms, said, “We were in the pub and we were all complaining about how bad the Wi-Fi was. I had just paid for high speed broadband and realized it would not work.” One of the organizers, Carina Dunk, 61, said it was fantastic what the village had achieved. She said, “It used to take a few days to download a film; now it takes less than a minute. Communities have tended to be more distant and separated but not here anymore. Sometimes we have to take a step back and achieve something.” A year after the project, most of the 300 villagers are now united in a 1,000mps broadband connection. However, Richard Raybould, 59, is still waiting for his house to be connected on the edge of the village and said he cannot wait. He said, “It is amazing what skills people in the community have. There are experts and farmers who dig trenches. I have met at least 30 people who I had never spoken to before.” 5. What can we learn about the villagers? A.They had no access to the Internet. B.They usually didn’t have much free time. C.They didn’t know how to use the Internet correctly. D.They considered their Internet connection disappointing. 6. To have their own cables, the villagers had to_______. A.partly cover the cost B.employ workers to dig trenches C.donate £100,000 to EU funding D.get the local government’s permission 7. What does the author intend to do by mentioning Carina Dunk’s words? A.Explain the cause of the project. B.Explain the process of the project. C.Show the benefits from the project. D.Show the villagers’ attitudes toward the project. 8. What would be the best title for the text? A.Villagers obtain access to the Internet B.Villagers dream of super fast broadband C.Villagers volunteer to install super fast broadband D.Villagers are suffering from bad Wi-Fi connections 【答案】D A C C 【解析】这是一篇记叙文。短文叙述了数百名村民自己动手,挖了数英里的沟来安装自己的电缆,现在他们拥有了比以前超快的宽带网络。 【小题5】推理判断题。由第三段“Ben Longman, owner of the Cefn Mably Arms, said, “We were in the pub and we were all complaining about how bad the Wi-Fi was.”可知,CefnMablyArms的老板Ben Longma说,我们当时在酒吧,都在抱怨wi-fi有多糟糕。所以通过Ben Longman的话可以判断出,他们认为他们的网络令人失望。故选D项。 【小题6】细节理解题。由第二段" The project cost around £250,000 with villagers paying£150,000 of their own money”可知,该项目耗资约25万英镑,村民们自己支付15万英镑。所以为了拥有自己的电缆,村民们不得不承担部分费用。故选A项。 【小题7】推理判断题。由第四段“She said, “It used to take a few days to download a film; now it takes less than a minute. Communities have tended to be more distant and separated but not here anymore.” C From self-driving cars to carebots (care+robots) for elderly people, rapid development in technology has long represented a possible threat (威胁) to many jobs normally performed by people. But experts now believe that almost 50 percent of occupations existing today will be completely unnecessary by 2025 as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to change businesses. “The next fifteen years will see a revolution in how we work, and a revolution will necessarily take place in how we plan and think about workplaces,” said Peter Andrew, Director of Workplace Strategy for CBRE Asia-Pacific. A growing number of jobs in the future will require creative intelligence, social skills and the ability to use artificial intelligence. The report is based on interviews with 200 experts, business leaders and young people from Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. It shows that in the US technology already destroys more jobs than it creates. But the report states, “Losing occupations does not necessarily mean losing jobs—just changing what people do.” Growth in new jobs could occur as much, according to the research. “The growth of companies that have the speed and technological know-how will directly challenge big companies,” it states. A 2014 report by Pew Research found 52 percent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few years. The optimists pictured “a future in which robots do not take the place of more jobs than they create,” according to Aaron Smith, the report’s co-author. “Technology will continue to affect jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created. Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there were billions of jobs. There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change,” Microsoft’s Jonathan Grudin told researchers. 9. What is the first paragraph mainly about? A.The result of job reduction. B.The fast development of AI. C.The future life of elderly people. D.The influence of technology on jobs. 10. What will people most probably do in the future? A.Take the place of AI. B.Work in a traditional way. C.Take up jobs requiring creativity. D.Enjoy life without working anymore. 11. What can be known from Grudin’s words in the last paragraph? A.Job unemployment will stay high. B.More jobs tend to appear in the future. C.Job competition is likely to grow fiercer. D.Technology will have less control over jobs. 12. What is the best title for the text? A.Are People Losing Their Jobs? B.The Requirements for Future Jobs C.The Challenging Life in the Future D.Does Technology Simplify Everything? 【答案】D C B A 【解析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲人工智能的发展会对人们未来生活产生影响,很多职业将会消失,但失去职业并不等于丢掉工作,只是改变了人们做的是什么,人们将会从事更具创造性的工作。 【小题9】主旨大意题。根据第一段第一句" From self-driving cars to carebots (care+robots) for elderly people, rapid development in technology has long represented a possible threat (威胁) to many jobs normally performed by people."(从自动驾驶汽车到为老年人 服务的护理机器人(护理+机器人),长期以来,技术的快速发展对许多通常由人类完成的工作构成了可能的威胁)可知第一段主要讲的是科技对工作的影响。故选D。 【小题10】细节理解题。根据第二段最后一句“A growing number of jobs in the future will require creative intelligence, social skills and the ability to use artificial intelligence.”(未来越来越多的工作岗位将要求创造性智能、社交技能和使用人工智能的能力)可知在未来人们要从事需要有创造力的工作。故选C。 【小题11】推理判断题。根据文章“Technology will continue to affect jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created. Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people there were billions of jobs.”(技术将继续影响就业,但 似乎会创造出更多的就业机会。虽然一直都有失业的人,但当我们的人口达到数十亿时,就有了数十亿的工作机会)可知,在未来社会,人们虽然会失业,但却会面临更多的需要创造性的工作。故选B。 【小题12】主旨大意题。文章主要讲人工智能的发展会对人们未来生活产生影响,很多职业将会消失,但失去职业并不等于丢掉工作,只是改变 了人们做的是什么,人们将会从事更具创造性的工作。所以短文的最佳标题为“人们会失业吗”。故选A。二、思维提升-观点分享 Share your ideas about AI and talk about its advantages and possible problems. 1. As he gets older and his successful career peaks, his master has one wish for him-to live on. A dog adopted off the streets, nine-year-old Juice-or “Guozhi” in Chinese-is unable to have babies. A.China has the latest biotech. B.It meets the strict regulations. C.The market demand is growing. D.It has been cloning many animals. 3. What is the government’s attitude to the cloning industry according to Lee? A.Doubtful. B.Negative. C.Critical. D.Supportive. 4. What did He mean by saying “he’ll be even better than the older Juice”? A.Little Juice is easier to train. B.Little Juice has better characters. C.Little Juice will live longer than Juice. D.Little Juice will become a big dog star. 一、阅读理解 A Cloud computing will be in use by about 80 percent of about 600 companies. B Hundreds of villagers took matters into their own hands by digging miles of trenches(沟壕)to install their own cables(电缆). A.Villagers obtain access to the Internet B.Villagers dream of super fast broadband C.Villagers volunteer to install super fast broadband D.Villagers are suffering from bad Wi-Fi connections C From self-driving cars to carebots (care+robots) for elderly people, rapid development in technology has long represented a possible threat (威胁) to many jobs normally performed by people. 二、思维提升-观点分享 Share your ideas about AI and talk about its advantages and possible problems. 1.
