I’ve studied in China for a year and now it’s the Christmas holiday. I’ve been back in the UK for three days, but it feels like a century! It’s amazing to see my family. Also, I really love Christmas and the delicious food here. However, I’ve had some digital problems here.
Today, I wanted to get some vegetables and meat from a shop. I decided to ride a shared bike to get there. But it took forever to find a bike! I finally found an old one. But that 15-minute ride cost me an arm and a leg—more than five pounds!
In the shop, I quickly got everything I needed. I wanted to pay with my smartphone. I asked the shopkeeper to show the QR code, but she didn’t understand! Next, I tried to use my digital wallet, but the shop’s payment system didn’t work. The shopkeeper told me to use cash. As I never carry my wallet, I had to go home to get some cash.
When I got home, I was so tired that I gave up cooking. I ordered my favourite dishes through an app instead, but the delivery was really slow. When my dishes finally arrived 90 minutes later, they were stone cold! By then, I felt tired and hungry.
Except for today, I’ve had a great holiday. However, I’m looking forward to going back to China. The technology there lets me live a more convenient life!

How BDS works
BDS, officially known as the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, is one of the global navigation satellite systems.
BDS is a group of satellites in orbit around the Earth. Each satellite sends radio signals to the Earth with information. The signals travel at the speed of light (299,792 km/s).
On Earth, your phone receives the signal and calculates its distance from the satellite. You need information from four satellites to find your location, so you won’t get lost.
BDS is special: it supports two-way communication. In areas without mobile network, you can send text messages via BDS satellites.
Your phone will pick the best signal automatically. BDS works worldwide, but is more accurate in China and the Asia-Pacific region.
61.What does BDS stand for?
A.BeiDou Science System. B.BeiDou Navigation Satellite System.
C.BeiDou Communication System. D.BeiDou Information System.
62.How fast do BDS radio signals travel?
A.At the speed of sound. B.At the speed of light.
C.At the speed of a car. D.At the speed of a plane.
63.How many satellites do you need to calculate your location?

Do you know the history and the changes of computers? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Possible Version One:
Computers are becoming more and more important in our daily life. Do you know the history and the changes of computers? The computer was invented by John W. Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert in 1946. And it was made of different kinds of materials, such as plastic, metal and so on. At that time, the computer used to be very huge and it was as large as a big room. But now, it is much smaller, just like a book.
The computer is a very useful tool in our life. It was only used to count in the past, but now it can be used to help us work and study. It has many other functions. For example, it can broaden our horizons and let us know more. Besides, we can also listen to music or play games on it. That makes us relax. However, some young people spend too much time in playing games. It is very bad for eyes and study.
Every coin has two sides. In my opinion, we should use computers correctly. And I believe the computer is going to change our life completely in the near future.
