On the morning of April 20th, I woke up in a panic (恐慌), thinking it was 6 am, but in reality, it was still 3 am. I had a vivid dream where I had overslept. This kind of dream often occurred before important events. Even though I knew I was well-prepared, I couldn’t shake off the worry. After a restless sleep filled with more anxious dreams, my alarm finally went off.
I met my friend Jenny and we took an Uber to the race site. The first half marathon was unknown to us. The race began, and we navigated (穿过) through a lush forest. We celebrated each mile, but after some tough uphill sections, I began to worry about making it through. As we approached the halfway point, we were cheered on by other runners, which encouraged us further. The downhill journey back was amazing, and we cruised through the second half, deciding to hold hands and cross the finish line together. To our surprise, we won our age and gender group!
After the race we were overjoyed but faced a minor problem — no cellphone service to call an Uber back. Luckily, we met Lisa, Amy, and Robin, fellow runners who offered us a ride. During the car ride, we shared stories about running and life. They inspired me with their passion for running and traveling the world. I loved how running was a universal language that connected people with shared goals of being outdoors and meeting new people. Their attitudes showed me that adulthood could be full of surprises and joy.
The half marathon has taught me that the best experiences do not come from the familiar and safe. I’ve realized that I’ll be able to overcome many other unknown challenges of adulthood. I don’t know what they are yet, but my new friends have shown me that adulthood has many beautiful surprises waiting. I can’t wait to see what the next 13.1miles of life will bring.

It was at ten o’clock today that the first of all Time Machines began its career. I gave it a last check, and sat myself in the leather seat. I pushed the starting lever on the main panel forwards an inch then immediately backwards again. Looking around, I saw my laboratory exactly as before. Had anything happened? I thought my mind had tricked me. Then I saw the clock. A moment before, it was a minute or so past ten; now it was nearly half past three!
I drew a breath, gripped the lever and pushed it forwards. The laboratory went hazy around me. My niece came in to fetch something, maybe her handkerchief, apparently without seeing me. It probably took her a minute, but to me she moved like a rocket! I pushed the lever further. Night came as if a lamp was being turned out, and in another moment came the day. Tomorrow night came, then skipped to day, again and again, faster and faster still.
It is hard to explain the strange and unpleasant feeling of time travelling. It felt like I was being driven fast on a winding road. As my pace grew faster, the walls of the laboratory fell away, and I was left in the open air. The sun and moon looked as if they were being thrown across the sky, but soon there was division between night and day. Around me I saw trees growing like puffs of smoke; they grew, spread, and died in moments. I saw huge buildings rise up, then disappear like in a dream. The whole surface of the earth was being changed, melting and flowing before my eyes. I calculated that I was being pushed through time at hundreds of years a minute.
I had a strong urge to look at the random things that were being flashed before my eyes! I had thought about the risk of stopping the Time Machine many times. So long as I travelled at maximum speed, it didn’t matter. But if I stopped and the same space was being occupied by something else, we would be forced together and explode like a bomb! Like an impatient fool, I pulled the lever backwards hard. With a sudden jolt, the Time Machine was flipped on its side, and I was thrown through the air.
I was stunned for a moment, and then heard the sound of thunder. I was sitting in the rain in some mud next to the machine. “A fine welcome,” I said, “for a man who has travelled thousands of years to be here!”
28. Which of the following is true according to the text?
A. The traveller’s niece pretended not to see him when fetching something.
B. The traveller’s niece caught sight of him when fetching something.

D. It was at eleven o’ clock that the first of all Time Machines began its career.

A. It might disappear. B. It may fail to take him back.
C. It could lead to entering a different space. D. It might result in explosion.
31. Where does the Time Machine arrive when the man finally stops it?
A. On a winding road. B. In some mud in the rain.
C. In the muddy leather seat. D. Along the walls of the laboratory.

Like a literal breath of fresh air, so-called “micro-forests” represent a green practice, boosting the quality of life in many of the world’s polluted and overcrowded urban centers.
These small areas of densely (稠密地) planted woodland trees, also known as mini-forests or pocket forests, allow communities to manage the effects of climate change in a small way, but offer enormous benefits to the environment and local people, as they restore soil, air and water quality. These mini-forests are proving a magnet for various animal and plant species, which offer human beings the chance to learn more about nature. Magically becoming self-sustaining over time, they are a way to make reimagined urban life a reality.
Significantly, mini-forests, as one of their nonprofit facilitators SUGi outlines, serve to build social bonds in communities as well, as they come together to enjoy and sustain new natural settings. They can also regenerate and beautify neglected (被忽视的) plots in cities such as former basketball courts, and disused parking lots and playgrounds, for instance.
According to the UN’s State of the World’s Forests Report from 2020, over 440 million hectares (公顷) of forest have been lost to other uses since 1990. Now, more than half of the global population lives in urban areas, but the access to green spaces is limited. The good news is that micro-forests in cities can offer an important chance to fight against deforestation and enlarge green spaces.
Euro News details some of the many exciting micro-forests that have taken root globally. Nonprofit Earthwatch Europe, for instance, has planted 285 of them since 2022. Their plots are made up of 600 trees. A tree-planting program aiming to restore biodiversity and reintroduce native species, SUGi, has created 230 pocket forests in 52 cities around the world, from Toulouse in France, to Madrid in Spain, and Saint George in Romania.
32. What does the underlined word “magnet” in paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. Something artificial. B. Something simplified.
C. Something innovative. D. Something appealing.
33. How do micro-forests benefit a city according to the text?
A. They reduce traffic jams. B. They improve urban land use.
C. They popularize sports activities. D. They ensure citizens’ privacy.
34. What is the data in paragraph 4 intended to stress?
A. The fast pace of urbanization. B. The need to control populations.
C. The importance of micro-forests, D. The harm caused by deforestation.
35. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. Plans to further promote micro-forests. B. Benefits of sustaining micro-forests.
C. Examples of creating micro-forests in cities. D. Policies about micro-forest preservation.

One year, before the summer began... a fire did.
Birdcalls rang out across the sand to say the day was done. Kangaroos gathered under the eucalyptus trees. On Owen’s farm, cows quieted and hung their heads. But somewhere over the hill, a spark (火花) had started and was finding the dry branches of the bush (荒野). When the dark had fallen, a soft light lit up the hills.
There was a smell of smoke, soft at first, but as the light grew brighter in the darkness, it turned sharp and attacked the senses. Owen realized the water containers were dry: it hadn’t rained for months, and he knew water was key to fighting a fire, which moved fast. Owen rushed to his car, and his dog, Rocky, jumped into the front seat beside him. They needed to drive to town to inform others. There were houses in the area that mightn’t have seen the fire yet. Alone, Owen couldn’t fight the fire. But maybe together they could.
On the way, Owen and Rocky saw a koala that had come down from its tree and was smelling the air, looking worried. Rocky stuck his head out of the car and woofed, as though telling the koala what was coming.
In town, lots of neighbors had gathered together. They were choosing people to help in the best way they could. Some were putting on uniforms of the volunteer fire service, and getting ready to battle the fire with hoses (水管). Some were finding safe places for people to sleep, whose houses were too close to the fire. Some people were collecting old clothes for the animals that would be burnt in the flames (火焰) to hold and comfort them. Although it was nighttime, the sky had now turned a deep red.
Owen put on his uniform and was about to get into the firetruck. He told Rocky to stay behind, but Rocky put his paw (爪) on him, eager to go with Owen. So Owen let Rocky join the other firefighters in the truck. The men and women were teachers, shopkeepers, builders and gardeners — everyone was working together to put out the flames and save the town, houses, animals and the bush.
The truck reached the front of the flames, where thick black smoke filled the air.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Owen and other firefighters jumped out from the truck and began their work.

After the race, we were overjoyed but faced a minor problem — no cellphone service to call an Uber back.
24. What can we know about the author from the first paragraph?
A. Her short sleeping time made her panic.
B. She often failed to make full preparations.
C. Her alarm clock had a problem now and then.
D. She often worried about approaching occasions.
25. What does the underlined word “cruised” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Raced effortlessly. B. Moved passively.
C. Struggled painfully. D. Walked aimlessly.
26. Which of the following can best describe the car ride?
A. Silent and embarrassing. B. Inspiring and connecting.
C. Impressive but unbearable. D. Smooth but uncomfortable.
27. What does the author’s experience show?
A. Welcome the unknown. B. Better late than never.
C. Practice makes perfect. D. Every coin has two sides.
【答案】24. D 25. A 26. B 27. A

28 Which of the following is true according to the text?
A. The traveller’s niece pretended not to see him when fetching something.
B. The traveller’s niece caught sight of him when fetching something.
C. The traveller’s niece didn’t see him when fetching something.
D. It was at eleven o’ clock that the first of all Time Machines began its career.
29. How did the time traveller feel during this adventure?
A. Puzzled and indifferent. B. Ambitious and happy.
C. Strange and displeased. D. Tired and sleepy.
30. What did the traveller worry about as to stopping the machine?

【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“It is hard to explain the strange and unpleasant feeling of time travelling. It felt like I was being driven fast on a winding road. (很难解释时间旅行的奇怪和不愉快的感觉。感觉就像在一条弯弯曲曲的路上开着车)”可知,作者进行时间旅行时的感受是奇怪和不舒服的。故选C。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“But if I stopped and the same space was being occupied by something else, we would be forced together and explode like a bomb!(但要是我停下来,而那个空间又被别的东西占据的话,我们就会被迫凑到一起,然后像炸弹一样爆炸开来!)”可知,这位旅行者在考虑如何停止机器时担心它可能会发生爆炸。故选D。
【31题详解】
细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“With a sudden jolt, the Time Machine was flipped on its side, and I was thrown through the air. (突然一震,时间机器翻了个身,我被抛到了空中) ”和最后一段“I was sitting in the rain in some mud next to the machine. (我在雨中坐在机器旁边的泥里)”可知,机器最后到达的地方即作者最终停下来的地方是在雨中的泥土中。故选B。

【答案】32. D 33. B 34. C 35. C

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了“微型森林”作为绿色实践对城市环境和居民生活的益处。
【32题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段中“These mini-forests are proving a magnet for various animal and plant species, which offer human beings the chance to learn more about nature. Magically becoming self-sustaining over time, they are a way to make reimagined urban life a reality. (事实证明,这些迷你森林对各种动植物物种是magnet,为人类提供了更多了解自然的机会。随着时间的推移,它们神奇地实现了自我维持,成为重塑城市生活的一种方式。)”并结合选项可知,这些小森林吸引了很多动植物物种,所以能为人类提供了更多了解自然的机会,所以magnet在这里的意思是“有吸引力的东西”。故选D。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“They can also regenerate and beautify neglected (被忽视的) plots in cities such as former basketball courts, and disused parking lots and playgrounds, for instance. (例如,它们还可以改造和美化城市中被忽视的地块,如以前的篮球场、废弃的停车场和游乐场。)”可知,微型森林可以改善城市土地利用。故选B。
【34题详解】

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Then suddenly, Rocky came out from the smoke, holding an injured baby kangaroo in his mouth.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Owen and other firefighters jumped out from the truck and began their work. The heat was overwhelming, and the smoke stung their eyes, but they pressed on, aiming the hoses at the flames. The fire crackled and roared around them, but their determination was stronger. Owen worked alongside his neighbors, all of them working together as one to control the blaze. Rocky had been with them earlier, running back and forth between the teams, but now, he was nowhere to be seen. Owen didn’t have time to look for him. His mind and focus had to be entirely on the fire.
Then suddenly, Rocky came out from the smoke, holding an injured baby kangaroo in his mouth. Owen rushed to his side, and with gentle hands, he took the baby animal from Rocky’s mouth. The kangaroo was trembling, its small body covered in soot and burns. Without hesitation, Owen carried the kangaroo to a safe spot, where the volunteers had set up a temporary shelter for the injured animals. Rocky stayed close by, watching over the baby kangaroo protectively. As the fire continued to rage around them, the community’s resolve remained unbroken, working tirelessly together to ensure no life would be left behind.
