Almost everyone suffers from a headache sometimes. But some people suffer from repeated, frequent headaches. What is headache? What causes it? What can be done about a headache? What research is being done on headaches?
The dictionary defines headache as “a pain in the head”. What most people mean by headache is a pain which lasts several minutes or hours. It covers the whole head, or one side of it, or perhaps the front or the back of the head. A headache is important because it can be the first warning of a serious condition which probably could be controlled if discovered early. If a person gets rid of the warning, day after day, with a pain- killer, he may find it difficult to control the situation.
The professional name for covering up a symptom is “掩饰”. A headache specialist once said, “Masking symptoms is not the best way of treatment.” He compared taking a pain- killer for a headache before a cause is known with taking iron pills for anemia (贫血症) while bleeding continues undiscovered. He added, “Sometimes it is wiser to stand still than to advance in darkness.”
A headache is important also because it affects normal, happy living. The employee with a headache does less work. In a flash of temper he may upset his fellow workers or customers, causing a direct or indirect loss to his organization. The mother with a headache suffers and disturbs the family. She upsets her husband and children.
26.Which is True according to the passage?
A.Everyone suffers from a headache.
B.Headache is just a pain in the head.
C.Headache may last several minutes or hours.
D.Headache may not be important sometimes.
27.The underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 means ________.
A.you’d better still stand there when it is dark at night
B.you should not advance in darkness whatever happens
C.you should take some pain- killers for a headache at once
D.you’d better do nothing before you know how to deal with it
28.What is the main idea of the text?
A.The reasons of headache. B.Headache and its effect.
C.Everyone suffers from a headache. D.A headache is a serious disease.
29.According to the last paragraph, the writer may talk about ________ next.
A.treatments of headaches B.bad effects of headaches
C.symptoms of headaches D.the definition of headaches

We are humans, and we all make mistakes. The mistakes that we make are not usually on purpose, whether it is breaking a vase, or not completing a task. But not everyone knows how to admit making a mistake. This article will provide you with ideas as to what to do once a mistake has been made.
Admit your mistakes as soon as you find it. Delaying it longer will make you feel worse, or may drive you toward making the wrong decision to try and cover it up. Take responsibility. Do not play the “blame game”. Most people are smart enough to see that this is just a weak try to protect yourself. Perhaps you gave a task to another person and it was never completed. But is it really the entire fault of the person you gave the task to or is it partially your fault for not following up? Keep this in mind before placing the blame on someone else.
Apologize and ask for forgiveness. Maybe you broke your mother’s favorite vase, or even forgot a friend’s birthday. Just an apology can sometimes be viewed as a “quick fix”, and apologizing and asking to be forgiven give the person opportunity to forgive you.
Offer some compensation (补偿) for loss, damage, or injury caused. Offer to immediately complete the late task or pay for the vase. By doing this, it may soften the blow to the person we’ve disappointed.
Learn from your mistakes. In the case of a job or a task, write a “to- do” list with the deadline before leaving the meeting. As for forgetting a birthday, put the birthday on an electronic calendar for next year.
Do better next time. Never repeat your mistakes. We should try to understand what happened and try to make sure that it won’t happen again.
30.What is the Chinese meaning of the underlined phrase “on purpose” in Paragraph 1?
31.Which of the following is Not True according to the passage?
A.Never repeat your mistakes.
B.Not everyone knows how to admit making a mistake.
C.Apologize and ask for forgiveness once you make a mistake.
D.Delaying admitting mistakes longer will make you feel better soon.
32.You are sleeping in class because you are tired. You may ________.
A.do better next time B.learn from your mistakes
C.apologize and ask for forgiveness D.explain the excuse to the teachers
33.What can we learn from the passage?
A.We should know what to do properly after making a mistake.
B.We never make a mistake because we are humans.
C.We should avoid making a face- to- face apology.
D.We may often forget our friends’ birthdays.

Travel is more than visiting places — it’s about exploring cultures, challenging yourself, and making memories. Whether you travel locally or abroad, it offers lifelong benefits.
First, travel broadens your mind. Experiencing new foods like Thai street food or Japanese tea ceremonies shows you diverse lifestyles. This helps you appreciate the world’s variety and become more open-minded.
Second, travel pushes you out of your comfort zone. Planning trips requires skills like navigating (导航) unknown transit or speaking foreign languages. Even small tasks, such as asking for directions, build confidence to face life’s challenges.
Third, travel creates lasting moments. Hiking mountains or stargazing (观星) on beaches with friends — or enjoying solo (独自地) quiet — leave deep memories. These stories stay with you and become treasures to share.
Fourth, travel can be affordable. Staying in hostels, using public transport, or traveling off-season saves money. Budget travel often leads to creative discoveries, like local markets or free tours.
Finally, travel fuels personal growth. New environments let you reflect on your values. Solo travel, for example, helps you understand your strengths and return with fresh motivation.
Travel is a journey of learning — about the world and yourself. Pack your bag and start exploring.
34.What does the underlined words “pushes you out of your comfort zone” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Helps you save money on trips. B.Encourages you to try new challenges.

35.Why does the author mention local markets in Paragraph 5?
A.To show how to find free tours.

36.What benefit is discussed in Paragraph 6?

Once you have your business ready to go, you need to go ahead and get a website. You will need to buy a domain name (域名) and host (托管) it with a company on the website. The final step for starting your business online is to have a way to make money. For this, you need to have a merchant account (商业账户) that will let you sell things and make money. Your merchant account should accept as many forms of payment as possible. Once your site is up and running, you can begin advertising the site. You need to create contents, such as articles, social networking sites, blog entries, etc. and then you can post it on the Internet so that you can attract as many possible customers as possible. Complaining about faulty goods or bad services is never easy. However, if something you bought does not do what it claims to do, you are not asking for a favor to get it put right.
Complaints should be made to a responsible person. Go back to the shop where you bought the product, taking any receipt you may have with you. In a small store, the assistant may also be the owner. So, you can complain directly. In a chain store, find the customer service or the store manager. If you make your complaint on telephone, ask the name of the person who handles your call. Otherwise you may never find out who dealt with the complaint later. If you do not want to do it in person, write a letter. Stick to the facts and keep a copy of what you write. At this stage, you should give the receipt numbers.
42.What kind of thing is a complaint according to this article?
A.Never easy. B.Easy. C.Unhappy. D.Not mentioned.

根据第二段“What most people mean by headache is a pain which lasts several minutes or hours. (大多数人所说的头痛是一种持续几分钟或几小时的疼痛)”可知,头痛可能持续几分钟或几个小时。故选C。
27.词句猜测题。根据第三段“‘Masking symptoms is not the best way of treatment.’ He compared taking a pain - killer for a headache before a cause is known with taking iron pills for anemia (贫血症) while bleeding continues undiscovered. He added, ‘Sometimes it is wiser to stand still than to advance in darkness.’
What research is being done on headaches? (关于头痛能做些什么?正在对头痛进行哪些研究?)”,可推测接下来可能会讲头痛的治疗方法。故选A。

【答案】30.B 31.D 32.C 33.A
根据第一段“We are humans, and we all make mistakes. The mistakes that we make are not usually on purpose, whether it is breaking a vase, or not completing a task.(我们是人,都会犯错。我们犯的错通常不是故意的,不管是打碎花瓶,还是没完成任务 )”,结合语境可推测“on purpose”是“故意地”意思。故选B。
31.细节理解题。根据第二段“Delaying it longer will make you feel worse, not may admit your making the wrong decision to try and cover it up.(拖延得越久会让你感觉更糟,而不是承认自己做了错误决定去试图掩盖 )”可知,D选项“推迟承认错误会让你很快感觉好起来”与原文不符。故选D。
根据“Maybe you broke your mother’s favorite vase, or even forgot a friend’s birthday. Just an apology can sometimes be viewed as a “quick fix”, and apologizing and asking to be forgiven give the person opportunity to forgive you. (也许你打碎了妈妈最喜欢的花瓶,甚至忘记了朋友的生日。道歉有时被视为权宜之计,道歉和请求原谅给了对方原谅你的机会。)”,且根据文章介绍的犯错后做法,上课因累睡觉犯错,应该道歉并请求原谅。故选C。
33.主旨大意题。文章围绕犯错后该做什么展开,如承认错误、道歉等。故选A。
C

根据第五段中“Budget travel often leads to creative discoveries, like local markets or free tours. (穷游通常会带来创造性的发现,比如当地市场或免费旅游。)”可知,作者提到当地市场是为了举例说明穷游会有一些创造性的发现。故选D。
36.主旨大意题。根据第六段“Finally, travel fuels personal growth. New environments let you reflect on your values. Solo travel, for example, helps you understand your strengths and return with fresh motivation. (最后,旅行促进个人成长。新环境让你反思自己的价值观。例如,独自旅行可以帮助你了解自己的优势,并带着新的动力回来。)”可知,这一段主要说明的是旅行可以让个人对价值观进行反思,并让自己有所成长。故选C。

Complaining about faulty goods or bad services is never easy. However, if something you bought does not do what it claims to do, you are not asking for a favor to get it put right.

So, you can complain directly. In a chain store, find the customer service or the store manager. If you make your complaint on telephone, ask the name of the person who handles your call.
