“Run, run, run!” your instructor shouts in your car. You try your best and keep your balance as you run fast across the grass. The wind fills your paragliding (滑翔伞) wing. Soon, you jump off the ground and start flying. This is your first paragliding trip!
Paragliding is a kind of human flight (飞行) that starts with your feet and lets you fly like a bird. The idea of human flight goes back to Leonardo da Vinci, but modern paragliding got its start from NASA. Back in the 1960s, NASA needed to find a way to help spacecraft (航天器) return to Earth safely. A pilot named David Barish created a lightweight parachute (降落伞). NASA didn’t use it at last, but Barish’s design helped start the sport of modern paragliding.
Now, paragliding wings are stronger, safer and easier to use. People keep setting new paragliding records. In fact, the latest world record for the farthest flight is over 600 km!
Paragliders can put everything they need into one bag that usually weighs between 10 and 25 kilograms. But if you are a beginner, it’s best to fly with a coach. A coach can help you manage some difficult situations. This way, you can relax and enjoy the ride.
Does it sound fun? Don’t just dream about flying freely. Get ready, run, lift off and discover the fun of paragliding!
38. How does the writer start the text?
A. By asking a question. B. By telling a historical story.
C. By introducing an interesting rule. D. By describing an exciting experience.
39. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. David Barish’s design. B. The NASA spacecraft.
C. The way to return to Earth. D. Leonardo da Vinci’s idea.
40. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A. Paragliding is very exciting.
B. Paragliding is becoming less popular.
C. Paragliders are making amazing achievements.
D. Paragliders are less interested in setting records.
41. Why should beginners fly with a coach?
A. Because a coach can help carry the heavy bags.
B. Because a coach can help them set world records.
C. Because a coach can teach them to make parachutes.
D. Because a coach can solve difficult problems during the flight.
42. Which would be the best structure of the passage?

Do you know an instrument made of ice? Tim Linhart is an American who has set up a small band. The name of Linhart’s band is Ice Music, because they play the instruments made of ice. The instruments are very easy to break. Even a musician’s breath can cause the sound to change. So they need to repair the instruments between each piece of music.
In order to give a better show, Linhart built a special stage with ice in a concert hall in Lulea, in the north of Sweden. Most shows by Ice Music are in this strange concert hall. The hall has 200 seats, and the temperature inside is very low. Listeners need to wear thick clothes and hats, or they’ll get a cold.
However, the ice will turn into water in summer, which makes the hall break. Every winter, they will build the hall again. Recently, Ice Music concerts have appeared in other places around the world. Linhart has recently built an 80-foot-high hall in the Italian Alps. When winter ends, Linhart tries to freeze (冻结) some of the instruments in his “frozen house”. Why did Linhart build a hall in the Italian Alps to store these instruments? That’s because there will be other shows next year.
43. Why is the band called Ice Music?
A. Because all of its members love ice.
B. Because its members were all born in winter.
C. Because its members like playing ice sports.
D. Because its members use ice-made instruments.

A. He bought the greatest musical instruments.
B. He set comfortable seats for people.
C. He built a special stage with ice.
D. He created a warm environment with lights.
45. Why should Linhart’s band rebuild the concert hall every year?
A. Because it can’t last through the warm season.
B. Because more listeners come to their show.
C. Because the shows are in different places.
D. Because the band wants to have a different one.
46. Which of the following is a fact according to the passage?
A. Building a frozen house is expensive.
B. Ice Music is popular around the world.
C. Lulea is in the south of Sweden.

Safety is important for everyone, especially for students. How can we keep ourselves safe in daily life? Here are some useful tips.
First, always be careful when crossing the street. Wait for the green light and look both ways before you step forward. Never run across the road, even if you’re in a hurry. Cars may not stop in time to avoid hitting you.
Second, pay attention to food safety. Don’t eat food from street vendors that looks or smells bad. Always wash your hands before eating. Dirty hands can carry germs and make you sick.
Third, stay safe online. Don’t share your personal information, like your home address or phone number, with strangers on the Internet. Also, don’t click on unknown links. They might bring viruses to your computer or phone.
Lastly, be careful with fire at home. Never play with matches or lighters. If you see a small fire, tell an adult right away. Don’t try to put it out by yourself—it could be dangerous.
Following these tips can help you stay away from danger. Remember, keeping safe is not just for yourself, but also for your family.

44. What did Linhart do to make a better show in the concert hall in Lulea?
A. He bought the greatest musical instruments.
B He set comfortable seats for people.
D. The ice-made instruments are easy to break.
47. What is the theme of the passage?
