第Ⅱ卷 语篇综合训练
(一)阅读理解
The mental health benefits of being exposed (暴露) to nature have long been recognized, whether through activities like listening to birdsong or taking a walk in the park.
A study published recently shows that even half an hour of bird-watching could make us happier, healthier and help strengthen a deeper connection with nature. We already know that listening to birds throughout the day positively impacts our well-being. Even hearing birds indoors through an open window can boost our mental state, even though in the short term.
The study suggests that not only can bird-watching offer even more benefits than just listening to birdsong, but it's also more effective at increasing well-being and reducing stress than going on a nature walk. So why is bird-watching so good for us? It satisfies our biophilia,_the thought that humans have a natural preference for nature — some might even say we should consider ourselves as part of nature — which is why being in natural surroundings makes us feel better.
Bird-watching can enhance positive feelings — the basis of well-being. Research shows that being aware of our feelings affects well-being more positively. For example, a study asked participants to either count how many birds they had seen, or rate their joy upon seeing each bird species, and both groups reported well-being boosts. However, the joyful group experienced the most improvement, suggesting that participants' attention to positive feelings while bird-watching may have promoted the activity's benefits. But bird-watching can be more than just joyful. Research suggests that experiencing awe (敬畏) of nature can be life-changing for human well-being. “Noticing” is a key aspect of awe. It means that our full attention is on the birds rather than ourselves. Being in nature and noticing wildlife requires us to completely get lost in the activity, which can improve mental and physical health.
So, grab your binoculars (双筒望远镜) and step into nature for a lift in well-being. Take on the journey and enjoy every moment.
