Zang Jianhe, known as “Dumpling Queen”, is the founder of
Wanchai Ferry (湾仔码头), a famous dumpling brand. Her life story
shows how she turned hard times into big success.
Zang was born in Shandong, China. When she was young, she
learned to make dumplings from her mother. Zang's life got difficult
when her husband left. She had to raise her two young daughters alone.
With little money, she moved to Hong Kong in 1967. She only took a
few things with her mother's dumpling recipes(食谱).

In Hong Kong, Zang started selling handmade dumplings on the
street near Wanchai Ferry Pier. She worked long hours. She got up early
every day to prepare fresh food for the dumplings. She made each
dumpling by hand and used good meat and vegetables. People soon loved
her dumplings because they tasted great and were cheap.
In 1979, something good happened. A supermarket manager saw her
dumplings and wanted to sell them in the store. This was a big chance
for Zang. She worked hard to make more dumplings. Over the next 10
years, she made her dumplings better. In 1989, she named her dumpling
brand “Wanchai Ferry”. It became popular in Hong Kong and then in
many other Asian countries.
As her business grew, Zang helped others. She gave jobs to many
women, especially those who didn't have much money. She also helped
children in need. Sadly, Zang Jianhe died in 2017. But her brand(品牌)
and her strong spirit still inspire people today. Her story tells us that if
we work hard and never give up, we can succeed.#5
