Red crown cranes are monogamous (单配的, 一夫一妻制的). Every year, the cranes migrate (迁徙) from colder places to warmer wetlands like Yancheng during the winter.

The red-crowned crane is one of the rarest crane species in the world. The species is under threat, and the biggest threat to the red-crowned crane is loss of habitat. China has set up nature reserves such as Yancheng Wetland Rare Birds National Nature Reserve (盐城湿地珍禽国家级自然保护区) and Zhalong National Nature Reserve (扎龙国家级自然保护区) to protect them.
