Grumble said, “What’s there to be happy about, young one? Life is full of troubles.” Lily laughed and replied, “Troubles are like big and scary thunderclouds (雷雨云), Mr. Grumble. But just like clouds, they pass, making way for the sun to shine again. You should try looking on the bright side!” Lily made a bet (打赌) with Grumble, saying, “I bet I can make you smile by the end of the day.” Grumble challenged her, “You’re welcome to try, but it won’t be easy.”
For the rest of the day, Lily did all kinds of funny and silly things to make Grumble laugh. She told jokes, sang like nobody was watching, and even made faces. However, Grumble was still unhappy. ①Once you learn to read, you will be forever free. That’s probably why so many people are so into reading. In recent years, people have started a new trend of reading books in China.
②According to one report on Chinese people’s reading habits last year, around 32.7 percent of Chinese adults have the habit of listening to audio books (有声书). So, just like having parents read bedtime stories to us when we were little, we are now reading by listening.
③Some think this is good—people can finally put the books down when they read. They can finally get away from tables and chairs and read in a fun way. It’s great, it’s appealing, and it’s very cool.
④ “I think it’s entertaining—my kid can now learn in a fun way,” a young parent said. “I don’t have to worry about him having back problems like I did when I was a kid. And listening to audio books also takes some pressure (压力) off his eyes. So I’m all for it.”
⑤But there are quite a number of people who hold a different opinion. They say this could work with adults, but it might be a bad idea for teenagers.
⑥“People need self-control when listening to audio books, and we don’t see it in teenagers,” they said. “How can we know that whatever it says in a book can get into their heads and stay there? How do we make sure they are learning something when they listen?”
⑦“We have been reading books in the old-fashioned way for thousands of years,” an elderly scholar said. “Why not start listening for a change?”

A.Listening to audio books helps protect children’s eyes.
B.Parents don’t have to worry about their children’s self-control.
C.You will be forever free from health problems if you listen to audio books.
D.Audio books make sure everything in a book can get into children’s heads and stay there.

D.The old way of reading books has been proved to be the best since thousands of years ago.

第二部分
本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
四、阅读表达(第34-36题每题2分,第37题4分,共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Now more and more Chinese teenagers find life more difficult without their parents. They don’t know how to do housework, because their parents do almost everything for them at home. This is a big problem.
Joy is 14 years old. One day her parents went on a trip to Shanghai, so she had to stay at home alone. At first she thought she would be happy because her parents were not in. She could do everything that she liked. But it was seven o’clock in the evening, she felt hungry. “Oh, it’s time to have supper. Where can I get my food?” she said to herself. Later she found some food in the fridge, but she didn’t know how to cook. At that moment, she missed her parents very much. At last she could only go to a restaurant to eat.
Many of teenagers are the same as Joy. So I think teenagers should learn some basic life skills such as tidying up their rooms, dressing themselves, cooking some simple dishes and so on. They shouldn’t depend on their parents too much, either. Learning to be independent is quite important for them.
34.Did Joy know how to cook?
35.Where did Joy eat her supper at last?
36.According to the passage, what is the writer’s advice to solve the problem?
37.Do you think teenagers should learn to do housework? Why or why not?

Lily was a cheerful girl. She always had a big smile on her face. One day, she noticed an old man named Grumble siting beside a river. The old man looked sad. Lily wanted to make him smile, so she walked up to him with a friendly-greeting. “Good morning, Mr. Grumble! Why the long face?” she asked.
As the sun began to set, Lily decided to give it one last try. She took a deep breath and broke into a joyful dance. Surprisingly, Grumble couldn’t help it. He let out a chuckle (咯咯笑声), and then another. Before he knew it, he was laughing heartily, his sadness giving way to happiness.
