Bian Que was one of the most famous doctors in ancient China. He lived during the Spring and Autumn Period, more than 2,000 years ago. People respected him a lot for his excellent medical skills and kind heart. When he was young, he learned from a wise hermit (隐士) in the forest. The hermit gave him a special medicine book and taught him how to listen to the sound of the body.
Bian Que was very good at finding out what was wrong with patients. He could tell a person’s health just by looking at their face. This way of diagnosing (诊断) illnesses is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine. Once, he met the prince of a state. Everyone thought the prince was dead, but Bian Que found he was still alive. He used special treatments to save the prince. After that, more and more people knew about his great skills.
He also created four simple ways to check patients: looking at their faces, listening to their voices, asking about their feelings, and feeling their pulse. These methods are still used in Chinese medicine today. Bian Que traveled to many places to treat people, both the rich and the poor. He never asked for much in return. He often said, “A good doctor must have a heart as soft as water.”
Bian Que’s spirit of helping others has been remembered for a long time. He taught people to care about their health and prevent illnesses early. ① What will the world of tomorrow be like? Many people today believe that technology is going to help solve some problems we have today. New technology may solve old problems, and it may also create new ones. No technology is perfect. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Here are three examples.
② When we dream about the future, many of us think that we will be able to fly to the sky in our own flying cars. We could fly at per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads. However, if too many flying cars are in the air, there will be trouble with traffic control.
③3D printing is another new technology for the future. 3D printers are already used to make life-size models of car parts, and man-made body parts, like ears. As we move into the future, 3D printing will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that such a machine is very expensive.
④ Finally, people are trying to make a robot suit. This is an electronic suit. It allows people to lift heavy things and walk a long way. It might help people walk again after an illness or an accident. However, one disadvantage is the cost.
⑤It is easy to imagine a future. We will be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve, we can certainly dream of a better world.
( ) 9. How does the writer start the text?
A. By giving advice.
B. By listing numbers.
C. By telling a story.
D. By asking a question.
( ) 10. What might the robot suit help people do after an illness or an accident?
A. It might help people walk again.
B. It might help people fly to the sky.
C. It might help people save money.
D. It might help people make models.
( ) 11. What’s the writer’s attitude towards new technology?
A.Uncertain.
B. Negative.
C. Objective.
D. Doubtful.
( ) 12. What would be the best structure of this text?
(D)
Forests are one of the most valuable gifts from nature and play a key role in our world. They are not just homes for millions of plants and animals, but also bring great benefits to humans every day.
First, forests are truly the “lungs of the earth”. They absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) and give out fresh oxygen (氧气) daily, which keeps the air clean and healthy for us to breathe. In fact, one large tree can provide enough oxygen for two people each year. Without forests, the air would become heavily polluted and dangerous to our health.
Second, forests help control the climate in many ways. Their thick leaves and branches can prevent strong winds and heavy rains, protecting our cities and villages. In summer, they make the air cooler by providing shade. Their roots also hold water in the soil like a sponge (海绵), which prevents floods and keeps rivers flowing smoothly during dry seasons.
Moreover, forests provide us with many useful things we need in daily life. We get wood from trees to build houses and produce paper. Many plants found in forests can be used as natural medicine to treat common illnesses like colds and headaches. Walking in forests makes people feel peaceful and happy. The quiet environment, fresh air, and beautiful sounds of birds help reduce stress from study and work.
However, many forests are disappearing fast as people cut them down for farmland, buildings, and wood. About 10 million hectares (公顷) of forest are lost each year worldwide. We must take action now by planting more trees, using less paper, and supporting laws that stop unnecessary cutting. Let’s work together to protect our green forests for our own future.
( ) 13. Why are forests called the “lungs of the earth”?
A. For being homes for plants and animals.
B. For absorbing and releasing oxygen.
C. For providing wood for buildings.
D. For keeping rivers flowing.
( ) 14. How do forests’ roots help the environment?
A. They provide shade for people.
B. They prevent strong winds.
C. They hold water to avoid floods.
D. They produce natural medicine.
( ) 15. Why does the writer mention “one large tree can provide enough oxygen for two people”?
A. To show trees are important for air quality.
B. To explain how many trees people need.
C. To tell readers to plant more trees.
D. To introduce the size of large trees.
( ) 16. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How forests help control the climate.
B. How forests disappear around the world.
C. Different kinds of plants and animals in forests.
D. The importance of forests and ways to protect them.

My 100 Days Without a Mobile Phone
When was the last time you left home without your mobile phone? Can you imagine yourself living a month, or even a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time?
As a busy modern person with lots of social connections, plans and responsibilities, I just cannot afford to not be in touch with the rest of the world. Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (恼人的).
One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I tried turning notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone. Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all.
For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. When I had a free moment, I had no idea what to get myself distracted (分心的) with, and the worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me. However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes—changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits.
First of all, I noticed that I became much more focused. Before, while doing something, I would often find myself wondering what was going on online. After a month of staying away from my mobile phone, I found that the urge(冲动) was already not that strong and that my ability to focus improved. I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. Before, I would look at it through my camera mostly; take a photo, post it, get some likes. Now, I saw beautiful people walking around and I sensed the seasons change. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares.
Now, as 100 days have passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible.
