Several violins hung from the dark walls, quietly waiting to be chosen. Right then, I thought about my past. My childhood was all about the hobbies I had tried, most of which had been chosen by my mom. She wanted me to join the swimming team, “Tara. Your sister is a good swimmer; surely you will be, too.” Yet she refused to see that I was afraid of water. Every Saturday, I would jump into the cold water with all my strength and swim to the other side of the pool. I would have given it up if I had not heard my father’s encouraging shouts to cheer me on. Then came a turning point in my life, the day our school music group visited my class and gave a show. The drums bored me. The flutes (笛子) bored me. But the violin... Ah, the violin. It made the sweetest sound I’d ever heard! My heart was dancing along with the beautiful music. Holding the paper with the orchestra (管弦乐队) director’s permission, I ran all the way home after school, and handed it to my parents with a fear that they might say no. They didn’t. Mom was happy to see me finally excited about something, and Dad winked (眨眼示意) at me while signing the paper quickly. I have now been practising the violin for 4 years, and have improved quickly. Before long, I won the first place in the local orchestra... 31. How did Tara feel when she swam? A. Nervous. B. Excited. C. Proud. D. Relaxed. 32. What made Tara feel excited during the school music group’s visit? A. The sound of the drums. B. The sound of the violin. C. The music group’s show. D. All the instruments. 33. When did Tara begin to practice the violin? A. 1 year ago. B. 2 years ago. C. 3 years ago. D. 4 years ago. 34. What helped Tara win the first place in the local orchestra? A. Her mother’s push. B. Her father’s encouragement. C. Her love for the violin. D. The school music group’s help. 35. What can we learn from the story? A. It’s never too young to learn. B. Interest is the best teacher. C. Practice makes perfect. D. Like mother, like daughter. A 32. B 33. D 34. C 35. 根据第二段“Yet she refused to see I was afraid of water.” 故选A。 根据第四段“But the violin... ah, the violin. It made the sweetest sound I’d ever heard! My heart was dancing along with the beautiful music.” 根据最后一段“I now have been practicing the violin for 4 years”可知,塔拉四年前开始练习小提琴。 根据“But the violin... ah, the violin. It made the sweetest sound I’d ever heard! My heart was dancing along with the beautiful music.”以及“I now have been practicing the violin for 4 years, and have improved quickly. Before long I won the first place in the local orchestra...” B。 C A new study found that 52 of the most common species (物种) of birds in the USA have shrunk in size in the past 38 years. Scientists say this is because of climate change. This shrinking in size follows a rule called Bergmann’s rule. The rule says that animals in cooler areas are usually larger than those in warmer areas. Larger animals are able to keep warmer. That is the reason why animals in cold areas are larger. As global warming affects (影响) the planet, animals now have to deal with rising temperatures. Some of them shrink in size. Scientists studied over 70,000 birds. They discovered that some birds in North America were shrinking in size. Studies on deer, insects and fish also show similar facts. What does this mean for these species? Global warming is happening faster than ever before. So, animals may not be able to change fast enough. And when species shrink, other things get different. When an animal’s body shrinks, it may not be able to give birth to as many young as before—this may affect the size of a species’ population. It is possible that scientists haven’t yet completely understood how changes in size may affect the ability of animals to be alive. This shows the bigger problem with climate change—we aren’t always able to predict what will happen—we aren’t always able to predict what will happen when the earth’s temperatures keep rising. And that is the real danger. 36. The underlined word “shrunk” in this passage means ________. A. become smaller B. disappeared C. increased D. grown 37. Why are animals in cold areas larger than those in warmer areas? A. Because they eat more food. B. Because they sleep longer. C. Because they can keep warmer. D. Because they need to be faster. 38. If a species’ body gets smaller, ________. A. the species’ population may become smaller B. the species may change faster C. the earth may become warmer D. there will be more pollution on the earth 39. The writer thinks the biggest problem with global warming is ________. A. the earth’s temperatures keep rising B. humans can’t predict what will happen C. there will be fewer species on the earth D. there will be more pollution on the earth 40. What can be the best title for this passage? A. How Global Warming Affects the Planet B. Why the Earth’s Temperature Is Rising C. How Animals on the Earth Are Changing D. Why Some Animals Are Getting Smaller 【答案】36. A 37. C 38. A 39. B 40. 【37题详解】 第二段“Larger animals are able to keep warmer. That is the reason why animals in cold areas are larger.” 【38题详解】 第四段“When an animal’s body shrinks, it may not be able to give birth to as many young as before—this may affect the size of a species’ population.” 【39题详解】 最后一段“we aren’t always able to predict what will happen”描述了全球变暖最大的问题是,当地球持续升温时,人类无法预知会发生什么,对应B选项。 D One day in 1903 French scientist Edouard Benedictus climbed high to get something on a high shelf in his laboratory. He carelessly hit an empty glass flask (烧瓶) and it fell to the stone floor. Benedictus climbed down, expecting a mess, but he found a surprise. The glass hadn’t broken into a million pieces! It had cracked (破裂), but it had held together. Benedictus wondered why. His helper explained he had used the flask to hold liquid plastic Then he had put the flask aside and forgotten to wash it. The liquid plastic dried, so the flask looked empty. Benedictus found that the dried plastic had kept the cracked glass from falling apart. The same week, Benedictus read a report about a car accident in the newspaper. The car was a new and exciting invention, and many people were driving fast on the roads. When accidents happened, people were often hurt by flying broken glass. Suddenly Benedictus thought of the broken flask. Could his accident be something useful? Benedictus spent a lot of time in the lab, trying to find out the best way to make safety glass for cars. Finally, Benedictus put some liquid plastic between two pieces of glass and pressed them together. When he hit it, the “glass-and-plastic sandwich” cracked, but it didn’t break into small pieces. Benedictus succeeded. He wrote in his diary, “I produced my first piece of Triplex (the name for his invention) —full of promise for the future.” Benedictus was right. His method of putting plastic between pieces of glass is still used today. And that’s how a careless accident led to an invention that made us all safer! 41. How did Benedictus feel when he saw the cracked glass flask? A. Angry. B. Sorry. C. Excited. D. Surprised. 42. The glass flask didn’t fall apart because ________. A. the floor was not so hard B. the shelf was not so high C. there was dried plastic in it D. Benedictus’ helper caught it 43. When did Benedictus decide to work on his invention? A. When he read a news report. B. When he climbed high on a shelf. C. After his helper had a car accident. D. After his helper gave him a suggestion. 44. What do we know about Triplex? A. It was invented in 1900. B. It had plastic on its cover. C. It got popular as soon as it was invented. D. It had an influence on today's safety glass. 45. Which of the following is the best title of the passage? A. Magic of Plastic B. Lessons from Accidents C. A Great Accidental Invention D. Daily Life of a French Scientist 【答案】41. D 42. C 43. A 44. D 45. 【41题详解】 第二段“Benedictus climbed down, expecting a mess, but he found a surprise.” 【42题详解】 第三段“Benedictus found that the dried plastic had kept the cracked glass from falling apart.” 【43题详解】 第四段“When accidents happened, people were often hurt by flying broken glass. Suddenly Benedictus thought of the broken flask.Benedictus”描述了Benedictus偶然发现烧瓶的特殊情况后,在看到报纸上关于车祸的报道(车祸中碎玻璃经常伤人),才联想到把自己的发现做成有用的发明,选项A“当他看到一篇新闻报道时”符合。 【44题详解】 最后一段“His method of putting plastic between pieces of glass is still used today.” C“A Great Accidental Invention”最贴合主旨。 There are several reasons why school uniforms are a good idea. ____46____ The students feel that they belong to a particular (特定的) group. Other studies showed no connection between uniforms and students’ grades. C 47. B 48. D 49. E 50. 【46题详解】 前文“There are several reasons why school uniforms are a good idea.”是文章的总起句,所以本段主要描述学生穿校服是一个好主意的几个原因,下文“The students feel that they belong to a particular (特定的) group. When every student in the school wears the uniform, nobody has to worry about fashion. Everybody wears the same style of clothes.” 【47题详解】 下文“On the edge (边缘) of the jacket, there is a piece of cloth that gives off light in the dark. When the children are walking or cycling to school on dark mornings, car drivers can easily see them.” 【48题详解】 后文“The answer to this question is not clear. One study in America found that students’ grades improved a little after the school introduced uniforms.” 【49题详解】 上文“One study in America found that students’ grades improved a little after the school introduced uniforms.” 【50题详解】 前文“Some very good schools don’t have a uniform policy.”以及后文“Students at about 90 percent of British secondary schools wear uniforms.” A: _____________________? B: The ring is made of gold. What’s the ring made of 【解析】 【详解】根据答语“The ring is made of gold.” What’s the ring made of。 52. A: I don’t think sixteen-year-olds should be allowed to drive. B: ____________________. They are too young. I agree with you/I think you’re right/I agree 【解析】 【详解】上文表达了一个观点,后文“They are too young.” I agree with you/I think you’re right/I agree均符合语境。 53. A: ______________________________? B: It might be Linda’s schoolbag. 【答案】Whose schoolbag is this 【解析】 【详解】答句提到“It might be Linda’s schoolbag.”,说明A在询问“这是谁的书包”,英语中询问物品归属的常用句型为:Whose+名词+be动词+主语,可以表达为:Whose schoolbag is this,符合语境。 54. A: ____________________? B: I can’t find my volleyball. What’s wrong##What’s the matter 【解析】 【详解】答语描述了一件事,“我找不到我的排球了”。因此,问句询问对方发生什么事了,故What’s wrong或者What’s the matter两种问法均符合语境。 55. A: ____________________? B: The shoes are used for seeing in the dark. What are the shoes used for 【解析】 【详解】答句介绍了鞋子的作用,因此问句应该询问“鞋子的作用是什么?”,用疑问词what来提问,What are the shoes used for符合语境,注意句首首字母大写。 VI. 56. allow, museum _________________________________________________________ 57. used to _________________________________________________________ 58. must, belong _________________________________________________________ 59. invent, 1876 _________________________________________________________ 60. taste _________________________________________________________ 【答案】56. Taking photos is not allowed in the museum. 57. He used to be very short. 58. This guitar must belong to Paul. 59. The telephone was invented in 1876. 60. This mooncake tastes delicious. 因此“Taking photos is not allowed in the museum.” he作主语;used to be very short表示他过去的状态。因此“He used to be very short.” This guitar作主语;情态动词must表示肯定的推测,后跟动词原形;belong to Paul表示“属于保罗的”。因此用“This guitar must belong to Paul.” 主语是The telephone;was invented作谓语;in 1876作时间状语。因此“The telephone was invented in 1876.” This mooncake作主语;tastes是动词是第三人称单数,作谓语;delicious作表语,即用“This mooncake tastes delicious.” VII. (每小题1分,共10分) You may think you cannot live through summer without an air conditioner (空调). C A new study found that 52 of the most common species (物种) of birds in the USA have shrunk in size in the past 38 years. Why Some Animals Are Getting Smaller D One day in 1903 French scientist Edouard Benedictus climbed high to get something on a high shelf in his laboratory. A Angry. B. Sorry. C. Excited. D. Surprised. 42. The glass flask didn’t fall apart because ________. A. the floor was not so hard B. the shelf was not so high C there was dried plastic in it D. 45.
